Chapter 19
The sun finally set. It meant it’s time for all of the vampires to wake up, including the vampire king.
I scrambled out of bed and walked slowly towards the door, ready to execute my plan.
I knocked on the door lightly. “Lupita, I know you are out there. Could you please open the door for a moment?”
“I’m sorry my lady, but you’re not allowed to leave your bedroom,” Lupita said.
“I don’t intend to leave my room. I just want you to open this door. Please I need to talk to you! It’s urgent,” I pleaded.
Lupita lastly opened the door, entered my bedroom, and quickly shut the door behind her.
“What’s wrong, my lady?” she asked.
“Lupita, can you just call me Rosanne when we’re alone?” I said.
Lupita sighed. “Okay Rosanne, what’s wrong?”
“Lupita, please let me out of this bedroom! I want to see the king,” I pleaded.
“Rosanne, I told you, you aren’t allowed to leave this bedroom or else Lord Sigmund will punish all of us,” she tried to explain.
“I knew. But I need to talk to the king right now. So please let me go to see him!” I begged.
“Okay, If you want to speak to the king, I will tell Lord Sigmund now, and then he will decide if you’re able to speak to the king or not,” she said.
Before I could say anything, Lupita had walked out of my bedroom and locked the door again.
“Lupita?” I shouted frustratedly.
“Please wait a moment, Princess! I’ll be right back,” Lupita responded from the other side of the door.
Several minutes later, the door opened again. But this time it was Sigmund who entered my bedroom.
“Come on Princess, the king is waiting for you.” Sigmund reached out his hand to me.
Hesitantly, I took his hand. And then he led me to the throne room to meet the king of vampires.
“Your Majesty, Princess Mirabelle is here,” Sigmund announced.
“Thank you, Sigmund. You can leave us both now,” the king ordered.
Sigmund looked startled, but he nodded his head. “Behave!” he whispered in my ear before eventually leaving the throne room.
The vampire king rose from his throne and approached me who was standing in the middle of the room.
“Mirabelle, I heard that you wanted to talk to me. What’s going on?” King Bellamy asked.
“I just want to tell you that I’ll try to believe what you told me,” I said with a fake smile.
“You will only try to believe it, huh?” he mocked me.
I rolled my eyes in annoyance. “Fine. I believe that you’re my biological grandfather. Happy?”
“I knew you will eventually accept me as your grandfather.”
He suddenly hugged me.
“Okay you can let me go now, Grandpa. I can’t breathe,” I told him.
“Sorry,” he mumbled and finally detached his embrace.
“Because you have accepted me as your grandfather, start now on, you will stay here with me, right Mirabelle?” he asked me hopefully.
“Of course, I will stay here if you want me to stay, Grandpa. But...” I trailed off.
He frowned. “But what?”
“Only for a couple of days,” I continued, “After that, I want to go back to my home, friends, and family.”
“Adopted family,” he corrected through his teeth.
“Yes, whatever. I just want to get back to my old life, okay? But don’t worry, Grandpa. I won’t forget you. I’ll visit you here once a year, no I mean a month. We both get what we want. It is fair, isn’t it?” I persuaded him.
“No, it can’t be. You’re not going anywhere, Mirabelle,” he insisted.
“Look! Even if you’re my biological grandfather, you can’t force me to stay here. I have a right to choose where I want to live. And I prefer to live with my adopted family rather than live here with my biological grandfather. Get it?” I said angrily.
“I don’t allow you to leave,” he said firmly.
“I am not asking for your permission; I am telling you my decision,” I yelled.
“I am the king. I am the only one who can decide here,” he bellowed.
“But I don’t want to stay in this castle penned up like a prisoner all the time. I want to go home and go back to my normal life. I want to be free,” I screamed.
“Enough, Mirabelle! If you keep insisting to leave me, I am going to ask my men to kill your adopted family and friends,” he threatened.
“No! Please don’t hurt them!” I begged.
“Don’t ever think to run away from me again or else your adopted family and friends will pay the price!” he threatened me.
“I hate you,” I yelled. My eyes brimmed with tears.
Without waiting for his response, I ran out of the throne room.
Sigmund who was waiting in front of the room chased after me soon.
“Not so fast, Princess!” he said while grabbed my arms.
“Get off me!” I tried to shake him off but he tightened his grip.
“Are you trying to escape again, Princess?” he asked furiously.
“I’m not trying to escape. I just want to return to my bedroom,” I answered.
“But you go to the wrong way. Your bedroom is over there.” He pointed to the opposite direction.
“How can I know? I don’t even know where my bedroom is,” I said.
Sigmund let out a deep breath. He let go of my arms and held my hand instead.
“Come on, let’s go back to your room now!” he said softly.
Sigmund and I turned around and finally walked to my bedroom together.
