Rising from the Ashes

Chapter 24

When Elenora opened the broken door of the shop she had sunk to the floor and held her friend as she cried out her anger and her grief and it was so much more than just finding out her soulmate was a Beta.

It was of the past and of the prospect of having to face something she had wanted to bury. Mia, as Elenora had come to realize, had dreamed of much the same things as her. She had wanted a simple sort of life. She had hoped for something quiet, something that might go unnoticed. If they were mated to omegas it would have gone unnoticed. It would have been simple and poor but so rich.

"Now I understand." Mia whispers, the forest of Bloodmoon surrounding them. They had shifted shortly after they stood from their position on the shop floor and they had run as their wolves for hours. They had been driven by instinct and they had hunted together. It had showed how much Mia had changed in the pack. Elenora had always hunted alone. It had shown that Mia will step up now.

"Yes." Elenora nods her acknowledgement, eyeing the ripples in the water of the river

"I will be different than you were Nora." Mia tells her "I had watched your turmoil from a distance and I refuse to take so long to accept what was always meant to be."

Elenora laughs and lays back on the grass. Mia follows her and together they melt into the world they once knew. They had lived as rogues, connected to the forest in ways the people of packs often forget about. It is something Elenora wishes to change, something she dreams of changing. People of packs often forget where they come from. The generations go by and with time they forget they are creatures driven on instinct and something animalistic. They seem to forget they are beast. They forget to fear the creature within them. They forget that their wolf side is dangerous and a force to be reckoned with. They forget what truly accepting themselves mean. They lose their power that way. "Why do you think the world did this to us? The one thing we wanted is a quiet sort of love and yet we who never wanted something so powerful will be forced into a fate most dream of having."

"I think we were always meant for more Mia. You feel it sometimes do you not? The power thrumming in your blood? You connect to your wolf in ways others do not? We were never meant for omegas. We were meant to change the world."

Mia laughs and they look to each other. Sometimes their relationship is odd to Elenora. It was built in a time where Elenora was both finding and denying herself. Maybe they both were. It was a relationship built on something both terrible and beautiful. Mia had killed her first man and Elenora had saved her from another. Mia had followed her then. Forced her companionship on her. "I don't think I feel what you feel Nora. I think I was made to plan and you were made to lead." The thought is strange but right.

"Lead who?" Elenora asks and for awhile Mia contemplates that.

"The world I think."

Again Elenora finds herself laughing at the thought of it. "That is the job of a God Mia. Not my own."

Mia laughs too and she grins at her in an odd sort of way. They had moved from talking of mates to talking about what they might mean to a world -if they might mean anything.

"Alright then you will lead a nation."

"That is the job of a king and I am no king Mia."

"You're right. You're Queen Nora and I've always found the queen to be more powerful than a king. Kings yearn for a queen Nora and when they find one they love they'll fall to their knees for her and offer their Kingdom."

This conversation is outrageous and it reminds her of Warrior Thompson who insist on calling her Milady. It had been awhile since she had seen him. "I am no queen, Mia. Just the future Luna of Bloodmoon." Elenora tells her friend who merely laughs, her eyes speaking of a joke.

"I don't know. You look quite a bit like the queen." She jokes "Same brown hair. The kings eyes and curls I think."

"You take that back this instant!" But she doesn't and together they shift and playfully nip at each others legs before making their way back. Elenora cannot help the way her mind spins with the possibilities.

They arrive back at the cabin later than they should have with the early morning that awaits them. Instead of going to sleep Elenora finds herself taking a walk that soon leads to the library of the pack. This one is public and so she walks into it, grateful she had come to know the librarian in passing. "Edith." She greets, trying for a smile at the short red haired girl.

"You look creepy smiling like that. Please stop." Edith says. They do not know each other well. In fact it had been quite awhile since they met and it was hardly a conversation if not a nod to the front desk before she dived into her research on the Rogue Alpha. Elenora had given up searching for him through the means of the internet. He will not be there. "It is quite late for a trip to the library? What is it you want?"

"Do you have any pictures of the royal family?" Elenora whispers lowly after a moment. Edith tilts her head before shrugging and going to the back

"You know? You could be related to them. You think the King had an affair or something?" She jokes but again the ridiculous thought swirls through her head. The ridiculous baseless impossible -but what if she was kidnapped from- no!

Impossible. Unlikely. Just as Edith appears in the door way, staring down at the pictures she had found in the back Elenora is making her way to the doors of the library once again. She doesn't need to see pictures. The thought is ridiculous.

The thought of it consumes her
