Chapter 1034
Chapter 1034 Be Nice to Her
Nicole wore an unpleasant look as her once slightly blushing cheeks paled. Her lips quivered subtly, and her hand hanging by her side tightened its grip. She felt that someone was squeezing her heart so hard that it caused grievous pain.
After a moment, Nicole glanced in Evelyn's direction. Contrary to Evelyn's expectations, she didn't display explosive anger. Instead, with calm composure, she retorted, "Oh, really? But maybe you've overlooked one detail-you're simply the illegitimate child of William. No amount of lofty airs as a supposed highborn miss can mask the low blood coursing through your veins."
Nicole's calm attitude immediately triggered a severe reaction in Evelyn's expression. Clenching her teeth, she fired back. "And who do you think you are to judge me? Well, perhaps it's simply a misunderstanding. Nothing more."
Even now, Evelyn had persisted in denying her true identity. The reason was that William was responsible for the fatal car accident involving Ella. If she were to accept this connection, an impassable chasm would form between her and Colton.
No way! I won't allow such a profound rift between me and Colton!
Observing Evelyn's demeanor, Nicole was acutely aware of her thoughts and let out a soft chuckle before speaking. "You don't even dare to acknowledge your own identity, Evelyn. What authority do you possess to pass judgment on me? At the very least, I am willing to recognize who I truly am."
Initially, Evelyn had planned to make a sarcastic remark toward Nicole, but much to her surprise, the tables turned, and she became the target of Nicole's irony instead. Her face reddened and resembled the color of a tomato while she tightly clenched her hands at her side. She took deep breaths and struggled to find her voice as she remained silent for an extended time.
Nicole casually glanced at her and opted not to say anything more.
Evelyn stood her ground and gradually collected herself before speaking measuredly. "Being Madam Gould's biological daughter doesn't change anything. So, whom would she prioritize saving in a conflict between us?"
Nicole had never regarded herself as overly significant. She never relied on others to safeguard her own life. With a cold smile on her lips and a hint of mockery in her eyes, she looked at Evelyn and uttered, "I have never believed that my value is derived from the opinions of others."
In contrast to Nicole's calm demeanor, Evelyn seemed increasingly restless. Nicole reclined in her seat and narrowed her eyes ever so slightly. She projected an air of indifference toward the unfolding situation. Consumed by anger, Evelyn persisted. "Nicole, don't you despise me? I orchestrated your miscarriage!"
Nicole maintained an unwavering composure as she listened to Evelyn's escalating frenzy. "Colton and I are free to have another child whenever we please. As for you, after harboring affection for Colton for so long, what have you truly gained?"
Unable to elicit any anger from Nicole, Evelyn gave a disdainful grunt before swiftly turning to leave.
As Nicole's gaze followed Evelyn's departure, the serene countenance on her face swiftly vanished, giving way to a profound sorrow reflected in her eyes.
Considering her unborn child, how could she not harbor resentment toward Evelyn? Yet, she suppressed the anger swelling within her and opted not to give it a voice.
Outside the door, Colton stood erect before Siobhan. His face, devoid of emotion, emanated a serene aura.
Siobhan gazed at him and observed his maturity and striking handsomeness. He was recognized as a prominent figure in the business world. Known for his efficient and decisive approach, he was never one to waste time or delay.
If she were a few years younger, she might have also been attracted to him.
She gazed at Colton and began in a gentle tone, "You must be aware of the situation between Nicole and me."
Colton nodded in agreement. The Gardners and the Wrenns had a close relationship, and Siobhan could be regarded as his elder. Despite his dissatisfaction with her attitude toward Nicole, he kept it concealed.
Siobhan appeared to recognize her past mistakes, and a tinge of embarrassment crossed her face as she acknowledged it. "I may have been biased toward Evelyn in the previous situation, which caused Nicole to feel upset."
