Rift in the perfect picture

Chapter 293

Chapter 0293

Without Nicholas’s restraint, I could uneasily untie the bow with my teeth, but I still felt humiliated as I put on my torn clothes.

Wiping my tears, I put on my coat and left Jasmine’s place mptly, I texted Yasmine, informing her to not find me an assistant anymo… could no longer wait and wanted to leave right away.

On my back, I called Gray. He was startled, given how late it was. However, .he was also very perceptive.

Not wanting him to sense anything unusual, I deliberately sped up my speech and asked, “Gray, I need to discuss some work with you. Are you available now?”

Gray’s voice was tinged with excitement. “Yeah. It’s rare for you to contact me, so of course I’m available. What’s up?”

“I need a male assistant with three to five years of legal experience who can. drive, drink, has no family commitments, and can travel nationwide with me.

“Got it. Your requirements aren’t too stringent, but what’s the salary range you can offer? People here usually ask for between 200 thousand to 900

thousand dollars.”

I admitted I was a bit impulsive at the moment, so I said, “I’m leaving tomorrow morning. If you can get this done by tonight, the salary isn’t an issue.”

Issuing salaries was Yasmine’s concern, not mine.

“Wow. How generous,” Gray remarked. Clearing his throat, he suddenly realized something. “What did you say? By tonight?”

“You’re a human trafficker“, aren’t you? [believe in your skills.

Gray hissed, and he continued solemnly, “Actually, I do have a suitable candidate. Do you remember Douglas Preston? He was one of your former associates, wasn’t he?”

“Douglas Preston… He’s my mom’s former assistant!”

An image of a refined, mature face flashed in my mind. Douglas had always been cool and composed, yet he had been steadfast during his service to my mother and I. He was also fully involved in handling my mother’s affairs after her passing.

“Yes, it’s him. I thought he could be a great asset, but he’s been struggling with securing a new job since he left Jones Corporation. His new company. conducted a background check, and they found out that his peer reviews from Jones Corporation were quite poor.

“He probably helped you before, so his new boss is worried that he might. jeopardize the company. He’s in a very tricky situation.”

Gray was quite straightforward, and I understood what he meant. The situation was indeed problematic if even he found it challenging.

But it had been so long since the Jones Corporation’s incident, and Douglas. had never contacted me. If Gray hadn’t mentioned it today, I wouldn’t have. known how much he had done for me.

“If I remember correctly, Douglas’s expertise is in both law and business. He’s a suitable match. Should I help you negotiate?”

Indeed, Douglas was a perfect candidate. I remember I hadn’t done much during Jones Corporation’s incident, and it was mostly him helping out. Even Nicholas only got involved later. I should’ve thought of Douglas earlier.

“I’ll talk to him myself. If it works out, I’ll pay you as well. Thanks. I’ll treat you. to a meal when I return from my trip too.”

“Okay. I’ll be waiting for your payment,” Gray said, hanging up swiftly.

I found Douglas’s number in my contacts. As the call connected, his distinct cool tone came through with a hint of surprise.

“Ms. Jones?”

The way he addressed me nearly made me tear up. It evoked a sense of anguish time had etched into me, making me feel as if I could reset my life.
