Rewriting My Heart's Fate (Ethan and Evelyn)

Chapter 461

I took a deep breath. Then, I straightened up and looked coldly at Sasha. "Ms. Langley, thank you for your kind reminder. But whatever happens between Mr. Grayson and I are none of your concern." I brushed past her shoulder. "Oh, and next time, you might want to check your lipstick. It's smudged all over your teeth."

I strode out of the restroom without waiting for her to respond.

"Evelyn, you bitch!" Sasha's voice rang out with rage.

I turned to find her storming toward me. Her eyes were burning with fury. "Evelyn!"

She raised her hand high to slap me.

I smirked. I was amused by how easily Sasha could be provoked.

After that fateful night when Ethan had taken control of my life, I vowed to become stronger-not just in my career but in every aspect of my being.

Countless hours of fitness routines and sports training had honed both my body and mind. I had mastered combat techniques that had become second nature.

In a flash, I intercepted her slap with a punch to her face. Then, I grabbed her throat and pressed her against the sink.

"Ahh!" She was visibly shaken. Her voice trembled as she stammered, "This is a lawful society... You actually hit me? I'll make sure everyone hears about this! They'll know how violent you are!" I chuckled softly and said nothing.

When I returned to the table, Ethan's gaze was locked on me. His face was clouded with concern. "Are you okay? You look pale."

I shook my head and forced a small smile. "I'm fine. Maybe I've just been overworked lately. Honestly, I don't have much of an appetite. Shall we settle the bill and leave?"

"Alright." He didn't press further and went to the counter to pay.

We left the restaurant and walked side by side through the streets.

The sky hung heavy and gray. Thick clouds were shrouding the sunlight, casting a somber mood over the city.

I stayed silent, lost in my thoughts. Even though I'd put Sasha in her place, her cutting words lingered like a thorn buried in my chest, stinging with every thought. Suddenly, I tripped over something, jolting me from my reverie.

"Careful!"

Before I could hit the ground, a pair of strong arms caught me around the waist, holding me steady. I stumbled into a warm embrace.

I looked up and found myself face-to-face with Ethan. His chiseled features were just inches away.

His brow was knit in concern, and his eyes were full of worry. "Are you alright? Why aren't you paying attention to where you're going?"

For a moment, I was too stunned to pull away. His embrace felt so familiar, so comforting a sanctuary I hadn't realized I had been longing for. Memories of countless similar moments flashed through my mind. He was always there by my side, ready to catch me when I fell.

"I'm fine," I said, quickly stepping back to hide my unease. "I just got distracted and didn't see where I was going."

Ethan didn't press further and let go of me. "Be more careful next time. Don't get hurt."

I nodded and kept my gaze low as I followed him.

As evening fell, the streetlights flickered to life, one by one. The warm yellow glow spilled over us, casting long shadows along the pavement.

Our silhouettes intertwined and

parted again and again, much like us-bound across lifetimes, yet forever divided by a chasm we couldn't bridge.

"Have you thought about Melando yet?" Ethan asked suddenly, breaking the silence.

I froze for a second. I recalled the invitation he'd mentioned before.

After a moment's hesitation, I shook

my head. "Sorry, Mr. Grayson. But don't think I can make it. Work bas been overwhelming, and I really can't spare the time right now."

His footsteps faltered briefly before he nodded. His expression was calm, almost indifferent.

"It's alright understand. Work

comes first." His voice was devoid of emotion. Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that he was a little disappointed.

"Maybe next time, when things settle down, we can plan something," I said.

A faint smile tugged at his lips. "Sure. When the time comes, I'll take you to try the best pasta in Melando."

His words wrapped around my heart, warming me unexpectedly. Maybe there was still hope for us to start over again.

But for now, I lacked the courage to take that first step. Soon, we arrived at the apartment where I lived.
