Chapter 12

Deacon

As soon as I had Carrie in the kitchen, I attacked her. Watching her dance with Colton so freely, laughing and having fun, got my blood pumping. When I pressed her into me, needing to feel her, I felt my friend too. He had been enjoying dancing with her as much as I had watching her.

I messed with him a little bit. It added to my need for my angel. The desire I smelled off both of them fueled the fire in my veins. I barely made it through the intro speech to all the donors.

I lifted her onto the counter, her legs moving to let me get as close as I could. Her skirt split right up, letting us rub some very frustrated parts together. I knew that was still a no-fly zone, so I put my focus on what she would let me have.

I unzipped her shirt and let it fall. She held my hair and head, keeping me there while she bucked against me. She needed me as much as I needed her.

One day. Soon.

“Deacon. The donors need to eat.” She reminded me - much too soon in my opinion - trying to bring us both back down to reality. I groaned and released her, moving to lay my forehead against hers.

“What brought this on?”

I chuckled and stroked her side with my thumb. “Watching you dance with Colton. You were so free in those few minutes, having fun.”

“Are you sure you are okay with him touching me all the time? I wasn’t expecting him to start dancing just now.” I kissed her softly, knowing she felt guilty for some reason.

As time went on, it was getting easier and easier to read her. It had only been two days since Colton started double teaming with me, her walls with him have dropped more and more since.

“I told you before. I trust Colton. He would never hurt you. And he would never betray me. There is nothing wrong with having a little fun now and again. Maybe next time I will dance with you both, with you right in the middle.”

And maybe one day, it wouldn’t just be dancing. That thought wasn’t new. It had slowly been creeping in over the last few days. My desire for it to happen was creeping with it.

I stepped back and let her put her shirt back on. I’d never watched her trying to put this one on before. She wore a strapless bra under it, needing the extra support for what she had been blessed with.

She reminded me of someone working to close an overstuffed suitcase. Once she succeeded, we loaded up trays with burgers, fully loaded, and carried them out. Mike did all the heavy work for us before he left for the day, thankfully making extra.

I kept an eye on the newbies as the vamps started trickling in. Sundays were our most… interesting crowd. They had their fetishes and things they liked.

William was the first to arrive. He sat down at his usual corner booth and waved over his two usual donors. His whip laid around his neck like a necklace. By the time they were sitting on the table, back-to-back, William’s friend showed up. They would run a tab and pay at the end of the night. This had been going on for years.

Both vamps were more than pleased to see the curtains down the first time.

Besides the teenagers, I also found two men on the larger side in a church that was being used for a shelter. Both were married, and both had seemed stressed when I found them whispering off to the side. I hadn’t expected them to take their shirts off, but I guess if you need the money badly enough, you’ll do just about anything. They would be good for the vamps who wanted the testosterone boost.

That was one of the reasons I approached the teenagers, the boys were in the process of bulking up. The other reason had been obvious, they were bored and were open to being open. I had also noticed a familiar smell coming from the girl, not as strong as my angel’s but it was still there.

They were standing altogether, watching everyone. The girl with the black and purple hair looked like she was looking for someone in particular.

It was about an hour in, they each had already been chosen for a ten-minute play time round already, when I could see her attention be drawn to the door. I didn’t know why she was looking for him, but he didn’t keep pets, so whatever she wanted wasn’t going to happen.

Carter met me at the bar, dropping onto a stool. “Hey, Deac.”

“Hey, Carter. What’s going on? You look tired.”

“I am, so very, very, tired. We’ve been working nonstop on trying to get that wall up. Our end finally met up where the next section began. I can’t tell you how glad I am to be done with it.”

“You need another boost? I have fresh meat. Young, too.”

I might as well let her have her fun while she could. I lifted my hand toward where her and the boy were standing. I gave a small wave and they both came skirting over.

The girl placed a hand on Carter’s shoulder and slowly slid it down, moving his arm so she could step closer. Carter’s smile grew. She had balls. I’d give her that. Carter looked her up and down, licking his lips. Then sighed as he turned back to me.

“She’s not exactly filled with what I need for an energy boost, Deacon.”

“No, but he is.” The boy leaned against the counter on Carter’s other side, his hand brushing against Carter’s thighs.

“Hmm. He is, isn’t he?” Carter’s arm wrapped possessively around the girl. He was having difficulty choosing.

“Time and half, old friend?” I asked him, referring to a special order, in which he got two but only fed from one.

His eyes widened, obviously he had forgotten about this option. With his free hand, he pulled three hundreds out of his pocket and handed them to me. I wasn’t worried, he would play for at least half the twenty minutes he was paying for.

“She looks very happy.” Colton commented from my side, watching the trio go.

“Yes, she does. I think she was looking for him for some reason.”

Colton’s ever-present frown deepened.

Carter ended up having to pay me extra, not having been able to help himself. He had to taste the girl. By the time he left, I started thinking they might actually have a chance at convincing him to take on a few pets.

I ended up booting the teens before midnight. They all had been very popular. The other two newbies were as well. I even realized I made a mistake in what their stress had been about.

One time they were picked together, more for show before eating, then playtime. They both enjoyed it more than most newbies would have.

I sighed with relief when the night was done. The week before had left me worried about Sundays. Last week they had been a bit more outspoken in their desires for my angel. It got bad enough that I had to make her stay behind the bar.

Colton’s plan was working though. We both had our hands on her many times. We replayed the scene from earlier a time or two, minus the dancing.

My favorite time was when I pulled Colton out of his pants and rubbed him against my angel. I slid him right up that skirt. She gasped but was trapped between us. I kept her mouth distracted until I finished him. I could see the dents his fingers were leaving in her side as he released. She walked away on the edge, so close to getting what she needed.

If I did decide to share after all, Colton would be willing. I had no doubts about that.

A few hours later, I sat in a chair and propped my feet onto the table. Colton locked the door behind the last customer. Carrie walked over and I pulled her onto my lap.

“I am really glad so many donors showed up tonight. It was probably why they didn’t get so crazy this time.”

I chuckled at her naivety. She had no idea just how alluring she was. And not just from the scent of her blood.

Colton gave me a look, telling me it was time to tell her. I sighed. I guess it was as good a time as any.

“Angel?” She must have heard something in my voice because her back straightened and her eyes had daggers in them, ready to throw. I gulped. “I need to get an idea of what the roads are going to be like when I go on that supply run.”

Her body wanted to relax, but she knew there was more. “Oh-kay.” She drew the word out slowly.

“Since Mondays are not known for being too busy, I want to do it tomorrow. I’ll go during the daytime, and try to be back before night falls, I promise.” When did I start pleading with her? I usually made the decisions and others were expected to follow. What was this power she had over me?

My angel pushed off my lap and stepped away. “Are you going alone, or are you taking backup in case something happens?”

I stood and tried to follow her, she pulled away from my hand. She already knew the answer and didn’t like it. Without a word, she turned and stomped up the stairs.

I growled. “This is why I never marked or mated. Women make no sense.”

“She is worried about you, but for the wrong reasons. You need to tell her the truth, Deacon. You need to tell her what you are. What we are.”

I pouted like the arrogant prick I was, not wanting to admit I was wrong. I roughly grabbed glasses and started to clean. Hopefully she would be asleep by the time I got up there.

Colton was staying in my apartment, since his was taken, and I had been sleeping at her place. Not that she knew most of that of course. She assumed he was sleeping on my couch.

Colton silently started helping me clean up.

We took nearly two hours, giving her plenty of time to go to bed. Her breathing was soft and level, so I went in. I didn’t pause to take in her beauty like I normally did, I just stripped and slid in with her.

Now that October was here, the weather was getting colder at night. With no heat running, she needed my body heat.

I barely touched her arm when she suddenly turned and curled into my chest. It took a few beats for me to realize she was missing a few things. My mind zeroed out, going completely blank, when she pressed her bareness against me.

“I’m sorry I got mad. I just hate the idea of you being gone. I worry about you getting hurt. And I feel safer when you are near.”

Uh, oh. “I thought you were asleep.” I was trying really hard to not sound like a child who had just been caught stealing from the cookie jar. At least she hadn’t caught me eating a certain cookie, something I may or may not have done in the middle of the night to her. “You’re supposed to be asleep.” How did I not know she was awake?

She gave a tired sigh, her eyes still closed. “I almost was. If you had just waited a few more minutes you would have been able to continue with your creeper status.” I felt her small smile against me.

She wasn’t mad. I laughed softly with relief and wrapped her in my arms. “Creeper is a matter of opinion.”

She snorted and held me tighter. “Molesting people in their sleep and not telling them you were ever there, is the definition of a creeper. No opinions needed. It’s a fact. You’ve been a creeper for weeks. I just don’t know why.” She sighed again, deeply.

Maybe she wasn’t as awake as I thought.

“How did you know?”

She laughed and rolled to her back, I didn’t let her go far, her eyes finally opening. Aaaand maybe she was fully awake.

“You left evidence all over me.” She waved at her chest, a knowing smirk on her face.

I did, I really did.

I grinned like a fool, completely proud of my work. Which she immediately pointed at with a sexy little scowl on her face.

“That right there, that was how I knew. If they had just randomly shown up, you would have freaked out, thinking someone had been in here with me. That someone was touching me. Instead, you get that proud grin when you see them. And you kiss them all the time.”

I grimaced. She had me there. I would have gone on a murderous rampage if someone had been marking what belonged to me.

“Why did you come? Why did you do all this?”

I kissed her forehead. There was nothing I could say that wouldn’t lead to the truth.

“I needed to be near you, and I was marking you as mine.”

“You could have done that while I was awake, in fact, you have a few times.”

“That’s not what I meant.” I sighed, guess it was time. “My people, we have a way of marking those we are claiming. It blends our scents, a warning to others that they are spoken for. From the moment I saw you, I knew I wanted you to be mine. Whether it be to give me the son I’ve never been able to have, or as mine to protect and care for.”

“I will withhold the comment about giving you a kid for now, seeing as how you maintained some decency while I was sleeping. You’ve respected most of my wishes. What do you mean, your people? How did you blend our scents?”

“My people.” I licked my lips and rubbed them together. “We are few in number now, because of a curse that a witch placed upon us many years ago. We can only bear male children, and it is not easy to find a human strong enough to survive carrying our children or even birthing them.”

Carrie started shaking her head and mumbling no, over, and over again, pushing away from me. I let her go, confused. I hadn’t reached the part that should freak her out yet.

She paced away from the bed. I was worried enough about her reaction and what was going on in her head, that I was mostly able to ignore her perfect body. My angel rubbed her eyes with both hands, looked at me, cursed, and looked away.

“Carrie, angel. Talk to me. What do you have going on in your head? Let me help, love.” I needed to help her. I hated seeing her in such distress.
