Chapter 10
Oliver and I both jump. On reflex I throw a knife, it zooms past Derek’s face with him making a hiss and blood being drawn. “For fucks sake Derek do you not know not to sneak up on assassins! I could have killed you”, I yelled at him.
Oliver nods in agreement with his hand on his gun. Derek takes us both in raising his hands in surrender.
“Hey, I’m only here to give Megan the details about tonight’s drop. Oliver waits on the hill on the left side. It gives good cover and The angle will make your shot more clean. Plus if Ami needs help we are close enough to get there in five minutes at full speed for you and about eight for me.”
Megan coughs and we look back at her, “Now that has been settled go get ready. You leave at nightfall so 7pm. “
The three of us get up and make our way out the office. Derek sneaks up behind kissing my cheek before slipping out the door. Touching my cheek where he had kissed me. Looking over to Oliver whose low and deadly growl could be heard clearly in the room. The look of death in his eyes.
Yep, Derek officially made Oliver’s shit list. Turning around I stand on my toes, landing a soft kiss to his lips. Before turning and walking out the door, leaving Oliver standing there in shock. Walking towards the elevator, I feel a hand clamp around my wrist pulling me to the side pinning me to the wall. Looking up I see Derek standing over me One hand clamping my wrist down the other hand over a gun handle. Raising my eyebrow at him.
“If you try anything Derek I will stick a knife into your throat faster than you can draw”,I snarl baring my fangs at him.
“I’m not going to do anything Ami, it was just the only way to get you alone.”
He releases me by running a hand through his hair. Looking away before he speaks.
“I…I just wanted to know why him? He doesn’t even claim you but gets jealous when others come near you.”
“He knows my past and has accepted it Derek. I think he might just be trying to respect me.”
“Ami, I know all your past. I have been around your mother as a prisoner enough to know and experience what you have been through. He hasn’t.”
“What are you trying to say Derek?”, I asked him, planting my hands on my hips.
“I’m saying there is something odd about Oliver. If I were with you I would want everyone to know, I would show it and not care what others thought.”
I look up at him confused.
“How much have you heard about me Derek?”
“Everything Ami, you mother made it a point for me to know everything if I ever encountered you. Except the more I learned the more I yearned to know you and wish to be with you. But you’re with Oliver and I respect that. All I’m saying is be careful beautiful.”
With that he leaned in softly kissing my lips before turning and walking away. Coming out the hallway standing, pushing the button for the elevator. Oliver strides over hitching his thumb over to where Derek just left.
“What did he want?”
Looking at Oliver, I could help but think he might be right. Oliver rarely shows me affection but wants to know what’s going on all the time. It’s like he has some sort of control issue.
“Nothing of concern, just the best point of entry”, I lied with a shrug.
Oliver eyed be skeptically before the elevator pinged and we both entered. In our suite I went straight for my room. Closing the door and locking it before getting my laptop that I had taken from the office. Signing in, I send Megan a message through our heavily encrypted messaging app.
Ami: Hey Megan do you have a moment?
Megan: (typing)
Megan: Sure Ami what’s going on?
Ami: Derek gave me some advice about Oliver. And normally I wouldn’t say anything but what he has told me oddly makes sense.
Megan: What did he say?
Ami: He was telling me how Oliver acts strange. He wanted to be with me but he isn’t very affectionate. I’m lucky if I get any affection at all. It’s almost as if he is trying to play a part.
Megan: Hm that is strange when one is in love or has feelings for someone they would want to show it.
Ami: Exactly! He doesn’t, he growled from irritation not from jealousy. It’s strange Megan. I know Derek has been here long and neither have I. But something is off about Oliver. I don’t know but something isn’t right.
Megan: I’ll relocate you to another suite. I’ll send Smith up to escort you. Pack your things in your bags. Smith will take your bags to your room. He will be there in ten minutes. I’ll let Oliver know that it’s a team exercise.
Ami: I’m not going to have a new roommate am I?
Megan: As a matter of fact, yes. To test this theory of ours. You’re going down stairs to be roomed with Derek. We will monitor Oliver’s movements and see what happens.
Ami: Sounds like a plan to me.
With that I powered off my computer and went to work packing my things. Since everything was already set up, it was easy to pack everything and head to the entryway. Oliver sat at the table not pleased. His eyes were dark and he looked pissed. When he looked at me I didn’t see any emotion.
It was like his whole face was void of any emotion. He didn’t try to stop me. Or ask me any questions. It made me sad that I could walk out this door and he couldn’t care less. I am starting to think he only wanted me as his mate and partner just so he could get laid when he wants it. Shewing away the thought, I met Smith at the door. He took the remainder of my bags on a flatbed and we left for the elevator. Once inside Smith turns to me.
“I don’t mean to pry Ami but, is it me or did Oliver not even bat a lash at you leaving. I am sorry if that sounds insensitive of me.”
“No, you are right. I am starting to think he doesn’t care. Which is why I didn’t push our relationship too much. With this I am done. He needs to deal with his own internal conflicts. Or at least figure out how to voice them”, I say.
Smith nods in agreement, as the elevator opens and we walk out. Two lefts and right later we make it room 137. Knocking on the door, Derek opens up on the second knock smiling from ear to ear.
“Don’t even think about it buddy. You are my roomy and I am starting to think you are gonna be my new best friend in the making”, I smile.
He gives me a friendly hug and offers to help take the bag from the flat bed to my room. I enter the room setting four of my bags down. It is gorgeous, the room is decorated in more neutral tones that it called to the snow leopard in me. There is actually a window high up with a bed like ledge mounted and secured. My actual bed looked comfortable and like my old room had both nightstands.
As well as a drawer to the left and my desk to the right of the room. The room had a built- in bathroom and a walk-in closet. I could tell I am going to love this room.
“Do you like it”, asked Derek
“I love it”, nearly shouted at him still eyeing the ledge bed.
Derek looks at where I am and smiles.
“I installed it myself. Thought it would appease the snow leopard side of you.”
“It does! I can’t wait to get up there”
“The ladder is the rock wall like pieces you see next to your bed. You can use those to get up there”
“Thank you”, I hugged him tightly not realizing I was cutting off his air flow before he tapped my back to let go.
Coughing and laughing, “I..I am glad you like it Ami. Now why do we go eat and discuss tonight’s change of plans.”
