Chapter 27: Who Do You Think You Are?
Lauren merely glanced at Alfred who fell on the ground without saying anything and walked out of the bar, let alone stepping
forward to help him up.
Alfred was a little disappointed that Lauren didn't come to see him, but Lauren seemed uncomfortable while she was leaving.
Alfred was worried about her, so he struggled to get up from the ground, staggered, and followed her out.
Lauren was extremely unwell psychologically and physically. The part of her body where she had just been pinched was red and
swollen, and she vomited the moment she took a glance at it disgustedly.
The wine she drank just now was like a fire burning her stomach. Lauren felt uncomfortable. Now it was dark outside. The sight
of the deserted streets filled her with forlornness.
If those things hadn't happened, her life might be completely different now. If she hadn't married Alfred, she would have a happy
family. If it weren't for falling in love with Alfred, she would be extremely happy.
"Alfred, I hate you," Lauren couldn't help sobbing. Thinking of the experience of all these years, she was overwhelmed by
feelings of depression.
Actually, she really thought about letting go of her hatred and starting over with Alfred, but she couldn't do it while thinking about
the insulted past.
"Alfred, why did you insult me like that when I loved you? Why did you come to me when I forget how to love you?" Lauren cried
while vomiting.
Alfred, who followed behind, heard these words and felt miserable like Lauren.
He thought to himself, "Lauren, I'm sorry, I really want to start all over with you. No matter what you want, I will do it for you. Can
you love me again?"
Alfred knew that Lauren hadn't let go of him. Alfred, who had always been so vigorous in business, was trembling at the moment.
He walked towards Lauren nervously.
"Don't come over!" Lauren noticed Alfred following and ran away in shock. She didn't want to hear Alfred's sweet talk anymore.
She was really scared. She was afraid that she believed Alfred but ended up being hurt again.
"Lauren, give me a chance!" Alfred felt Lauren's resistance and did not dare to get too close to her. They were separated by a
certain distance. Alfred took a step closer, and Lauren would take a big step back.
"Alfred, don't follow me anymore, let me go!" She wanted to say, "Don't admit your fault to me on a whim, and then abandon me
in the next second."
"Lauren, get out of there!" Alfred stared at her before he could finish his sentence. After being stunned for a moment, he ran to
Lauren quickly.
"Alfred—" Lauren was going to resist Alfred's hug, but in the next moment, a strong impact knocked them to the ground.
Then there was a smell of blood, which came from Alfred.
Lauren heard a rush of brakes on the quiet street, then the sound of people screaming, and the gasping of Alfred.
Lauren suddenly realized that her knee hurt, so she touched it. Her hands were covered with blood. But more blood was flowing
from behind.
Behind her was Alfred who held her tightly in his arms.
Lauren suddenly didn't dare to look back. "Alfred?"
But the answer to her was still Alfred's gasp which was growing fainter.
"Quick! Someone has a car accident. Call 911. A man is seriously injured!" A passer-by hurriedly shouted.
A car accident? A man was seriously injured? Alfred?
"Alfred—" Lauren hurriedly got up from the ground as she came into her senses. The moment she turned around, she saw Alfred
falling in a pool of blood.
They were arguing just now, but Lauren retreated to the middle of the street in order to avoid Alfred. It was a pedestrian path, but
a car sprang out from nowhere and hit Lauren. Alfred rushed up and held Lauren in his arms.
Lauren couldn't believe that the man who had always been so domineering fell into her arms at this moment. Until the ambulance
came, it took away the man who fell unconscious.
"Alfred, what did you keep saving me? Who wants you to save me? How could you?" Lauren broke down and cried. The nurse
next to her held her down and even sedated her.
Lauren hated Alfred. She could have hated Alfred forever and retaliate against Alfred wantonly, but Alfred bore with her again
and again. She could have ignored Alfred's giving the Jones Group to her and rescued her at the bar.
She thought to herself, "But, Alfred, you saved me, and I can't hate you anymore."
The ambulance was speeding. The nurses who were wholeheartedly caring for the patient did not notice that they had just
passed by the car which caused the accident.
There was a charming and beautiful woman in the car. She looked flustered at the moment, poking her head out of the car
window from time to time. Only when she saw the ambulance had gone far away did she feel a little relieved.
Carrie learned that the Jones Group had been given away and began to suspect. When she saw Alfred and the woman hugging
tightly on the overpass, she knew that Lauren was not dead.
Since she didn't die before, she could do it again. Only she could be Alfred's wife. "Lauren, you can't beat me. Don't you dare
take away my property."
