Chapter 23: I'm Sorry
As Carrie heard what he said, her heart started racing. She turned around to see Alfred's dark face and felt panicked,
considering if she was overdoing it.
"Of course I love you, but I can't always follow you as a mistress!" Carrie's sweet voice made Alfred feel annoyed for the first
time.
Unfortunately, he didn't believe it now.
Seeing Alfred's face getting darker and gloomy, Carrie knew that she was overdoing it. Since she had already put it on the table,
she might as well blurt it out.
"Alfred, of course, I love you, but I also have dignity. I don't want to follow you like a mistress. If you really love me, marry me, let
me be Mrs. Kent, and manage the family for you. Think about it." After saying that, Carrie left without looking back.
The recorder in Alfred's hand was hot after being squeezed by him tightly, but his heart became colder. Carrie didn't really want
to marry him, but to marry his assets!
After Carrie left, Alfred stood silently in a daze for a long time before regaining his senses. He let out a long sigh and put the
recorder in the bedroom drawer, lying on the bed and feeling a burst of strong fatigue.
Alfred had been busy working for the company these days. He hadn't eaten a good meal for a long time. After laying down for a
while, he felt a little hungry. He habitually went downstairs but didn't see any food on the table.
The house was huge, but there was only one person in it!
The sense of loss suddenly struck him. The unprecedented loneliness surrounded Alfred. It seemed that no one cared about him
anymore since Lauren died.
Alfred seemed to vaguely see Lauren in an apron busy preparing food in the kitchen. She was cutting vegetables, steaming
meat, cooking rice, serving dishes, pacing back and forth between the kitchen and the table. She was sweaty, but she had a
contented smile on her face. She quietly waited for her husband to come back.
Alfred smiled unconsciously as if Lauren were really cooking for him in front of his eyes. But when he came back to his senses,
there was nothing, and the figure cooking busily disappeared.
Lauren Jones!
Alfred clutched his chest tightly, feeling sudden pain. Then he slowly walked downstairs and sat down on the dining chair,
stroking the area where Lauren had just been seen to wipe.
"Lauren, come back, I won't hit you anymore!"
Alfred suddenly felt that Lauren really hadn't hurt him and even did a lot of things for him in places he couldn't see.
Except for loneliness, he really missed her and felt regretful right now. It was obviously still summer, but Alfred still felt cold.
After sitting quietly for a long time, Alfred left the house, walked aimlessly, and finally reached a lively bar.
With the dazzling lights and alcohol, Alfred walked through the noisy crowd, reached the counter, and ordered a glass of vodka.
"Sir, you can't drink anymore. Too much wine will hurt." The man in front of the bartender rushed straight to the bar and rejected
many enchanting women who clung to him. He focused on the wine glass in front of him. It seemed that something sad
happened to him. However, after drinking alcohol for most of the night, it was going to kill him, so the bartender couldn't help but
persuade him to stop drinking.
"Take it!" Alfred took out a thick stack of money from his bag and threw it on the counter without even looking at the bartender
and continued to drink up glass after glass.
The bartender put away the money and shut up immediately.
His body hurt when he was drunk and he felt distressed when he was sober. Alfred didn't want to be disturbed by reality
anymore.
At this time, a woman with exaggerated makeup sat next to Alfred, deliberately leaning close to him. She moved her legs around
Alfred's trousers, flirting with him intentionally.
Alfred took a glance and ignored her. When the woman saw that Alfred was so drunk and lavish, she suddenly thought that she
could take the chance. She stretched her hand into Alfred’s pocket and was about to take away his wallet. But a man suddenly
walked over and pulled Alfred aside.
The woman stared at him, feeling annoyed that this man ruined her plan.
"Hey, did you know that you were about to be ransacked just now?" Jonathan Smith had something to discuss with Alfred, but his
phone could not be reached. The woman who had been with him heard that Alfred had disappeared, but her reaction was
extremely indifferent. She didn't worry at all. It took him some time to find out that Alfred had gone to the bar. Seeing how
distressed he was, Jonathan thought that maybe he had a quarrel with Carrie.
"You." Alfred naturally knew that the woman was going to steal his wallet just now, but he was too lazy to let her go away, just
wanting to drown his sorrows.
He couldn't even finish his sentence. How much wine did he drink? Jonathan knew the entanglements of him, Lauren, and
Carrie. He had tried to persuade Alfred not to be with Carrie who looked like a scheming woman. Now he must have learned his
lesson.
Jonathan told off Alfred for a long while but saw that he had no response. Alfred was so drunk and his eyes were dim and even
red. When he looked at him, Alfred was filled with tenderness and a little affectionate.
"You finally came!" Alfred stood up suddenly, pushing Jonathan on the sofa. "This time, I won't let you go. I'm sorry, don't leave
me!"
"What, what, what are you doing?" Jonathan was taken aback by the sudden hug. This posture was really ambiguous, and many
people in the bar stared at them.
"I was wrong. I shouldn't deny my feelings. I was always obsessed with the past and didn't even give you a chance to explain.
I'm really sorry!" Alfred was so drunk, blurting out everything he wanted to say for a long time.
Jonathan opened his mouth wide, wondering if he should tell Alfred that he only regarded him as a friend and didn't want to be
his boyfriend.
"I'm sorry, Lauren." Alfred fell on Jonathan after saying that.
"Damn! You scared the hell out of me. Next time, can you figure out the person for your confession first?" Jonathan pulled Alfred
off, seeing him sleeping and murmuring Lauren's name.
For a moment, he felt pity and also irritated, "It was you who forced her to go away. It's useless regretting it now."
"Yeah, it's useless, she can't hear it anymore." Alfred's face was wet with tears.
