Chapter Chapter forty-two
Freya, her heart pounding, crossed the manor holding Ajax, while Lucia and Damara carried the youngest children, Psyche and Metis. The heavy night had plunged the children into a deep sleep.
Following Damara's directions, Freya climbed the stairs. Entering a bedroom, she was taken aback by the décor. Three beds, each with its own childlike touch, made her feel trapped in a unisex style imbued with love and warmth. Gently, Psyche, Metis and Ajax were placed in their respective beds.
"At what point did they get the chance to create this room for the children?" murmured Freya with an astonished sigh, "they only appeared in their lives yesterday, and they already have such a lovely home.
"Lucia and I went to the packing stores and decorated my grandchildren's room. I hope you don't mind that the children have a room in this house."
"It's their father's house, I can't deny that anymore. If they looked for it themselves." He replies with a hint of resignation, sensing the reality that's coming over him.
Damara, trying to understand how she felt, suggested.
"Freya, you can sleep in the next room. It's not inhabited by anyone."
However, Freya, determined not to be separated from her children, looked at an armchair in the corner of the room and confidently asserted.
"I can sleep here. Don't worry about me, I'll rest on the sofa." He walked over to the sofa, grabbed a cushion and settled down on it.
"That's all right. I can see I won't be able to convince you. We'd better be off too. We're tired," said Damara, pushing Lucia away, not wanting to upset her. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for Freya to explain to her son why she kept the puppies from him.
Crono arrived exhausted at the mansion, informed that the children were in their room. Despite his tiredness, he knew he had to tidy up in the other area. He went into his room, took a cold shower, tidied up and left.
She passed her children's room and, as she entered, saw Psyche, Métis and Ajax asleep in their beds. He approached each of them and placed a gentle kiss on their little heads. Psyche reacted to the touch. "Daddy, I'm sleepy," she said, bouncing up and down, stretched cross-legged in her little bed, eyes closed. Crono smiled, feeling a leap of joy in his heart that his sweet daughter recognized him. "Sleep, my little princess. Soon Daddy will be with you." She straightened up and was about to leave when she noticed Freya on the sofa, her feet cramped.
He approached her. Noticing that she was uncomfortable on the sofa, he murmured through his teeth.
"Even if you curse me when you wake up and clamor for me when I return, I can't allow you to sleep in discomfort." He leaned toward her and took her in his arms, feeling her settle in his chest, and his heart leapt again with contentment. Carefully, he left the children's room and led her in the direction of her own room. When he arrived, he laid Freya gently on the bed. He knew she was a heavy sleeper. As he watched her curl up in bed, a small smile played on his lips. Without a word, he left the room.
Everyone was ready to leave, and an agitated Bastian approached Crono, took a breath of air and said in a firm voice.
"My alpha, I know I'm the leader of the warriors and I must be with you in battle, but this time I'd like to refuse this mission. It may be a lazy attempt, but it's the best I can do to get to the woman I'm anxious about, and I don't think going with you will be of any use. If I don't take the opportunity to meet her, I may never see her again."
Crono smiled as he saw the desperation in his Gamma's eyes. Remembering Freya in his bed, he understood what she meant. He patted her shoulder for comfort and said:
"Did Isis put you in this state?" Seeing his Gamma nod, he continued, "Go and see her. After that, I want you to restore security to our lands."
"Thank you, my alpha. Bastian, with a smile, turned his back and watched the orcs leave, adopted his wolf form and began to follow them from a distance. He knew that if they detected him, he'd be a dead wolf, but this witch's call drove him on. He didn't understand why, but he felt a bond that drove him to take risks to find answers.
Crono and his warriors mounted their chariots and left the herd at full speed, heading for the southern lands. After several hours on the road, they arrived at the entrance to Pyrrhus' manor, went inside and parked their chariots. They all came out ready, sword in hand. Dionysius addressed the few Kelpies guarding the manor in a thick, gruff voice.
"Warriors, we are gathered here because your leader, Pyrrhus, has died in battle, along with the Kelpie warriors who accompanied him. Chief Crono Apka has come to take command of these lands," declared the one at Crono's side. "If you wish to live, you must pledge allegiance to the new alpha of the wolf lands or show your displeasure."
The men looked at each other, realizing the gravity of the situation. One of them takes a few steps forward and, bending down, says.
"I welcome our chief Crono to our land. From now on, I pledge allegiance to him."
The other men, aware of the need to obey the new alpha, bow their heads in unison.
"We pledge allegiance to our new alpha chief, Crono. We will be there to serve you."
Crono, accepting submission, told them.
"You may rise. From this day forward, you will be under the command of my beta Dionysus," and he strode into the mansion to start giving orders and making changes.
Sienna rushed into the mansion, heading for the kitchen where several wolves were gathered. At the sight of her mother, tears of joy ran down her cheeks. Urgently, she ran to Isadora, and the two embraced tightly.

"My daughter, my love," said Isadora, crying loudly, "ever since I saw the car you were in leave, my heart has lost hope of ever seeing you again."
"Mom, you're fine, you're fine," cried Siena enthusiastically.
A slim figure with slanted eyes glanced out and spoke sheepishly.
"Siena, is that you? Have you come back for us?"
Siena's eyes widened in surprise. Her little sister, who'd been about nine when she'd left her, was already a teenager, but her heart clenched to see her in rags, gaunt and emaciated. She held out her hands for her to come closer, and the three of them embraced at the same time. When they parted, Isadora asked.
"What are you doing here?" He opened his eyes wide and ran his hand over his face, "Tell me, didn't Pirro win that battle?"
"No, Mom. Pyrrhus is dead, and I've come with the new ruler of this region, alpha Crono."
All the servants stood there looking at each other, frightened. If Pyrrhus was a cruel and ruthless chief, they didn't know what to expect from the new alpha. Sienna noticed the anxiety on their faces and offered words of encouragement. "The new chief of the wolf lands is a good wolf who will bring order to these lands. Don't be afraid of him, trust him".
The servants breathed a sigh of hope.
