Chapter 235 Harming Oneself Along With Others
If Simon could help Lily to get rid of Irene's child, wouldn't she be killing two birds with one stone?
Thinking of that, Lily was impressed with her own intelligence. Simon did not disgust her as much as when they had first met since she knew she could use him. She took the initiative to get close to Simon and explain that she was too young to know better. She was apologizing for her uncalled rude behavior after Marie's advice.
Simon had always known Marie and Deborah to be scheming women, but he would have never expected Lily to be one herself. Looking at her pregnancy and sincere apology, he immediately forgot how arrogantly she had treated him and how she had looked down on her. To him, Lily was a good woman.
When she saw Simon had taken the bait, Lily began to plan a scheme. First, she would let Simon keep his guard down against her. She would take him to extravagant meals at high-class hotels. As a result, Simon grew less wary of her.
Then, Lily took a stroll with Simon along the streets close to Irene's neighborhood. At the same time, Irene and Eden had just finished lunch and were strolling in the neighborhood too. Lily asked Simon to wait for her as she approached Irene.
"Irene! How long has it been? Are you due soon?" Lily eyed Irene's belly.
"What does that have anything to do with you?" Irene looked at Lily and coldly snorted.
"Why are you treating me like this? Aren't we sisters? We're both having Edric's babies, right? If your babies' umbilical cord blood isn't able to save Eden, you can still use mine," Lily said, disregarding the darkened expression on Irene's face. She shamelessly reached out and touched Eden's head, "Eden, I'm your aunt. The baby inside of me is your little brother!"
"Lily, what nonsense are you going on about?" Irene snapped.
"I'm just telling the truth," Lily was overjoyed upon seeing Irene losing her temper. Her true goal really was to make Irene mad, "He's going to know sooner or later. I don't see why I should hide the fact about him having another pair of brothers."
"Mom. Do the babies in her tummy belong to Daddy?" Eden asked as he pointed at Lily. The boy remembered Lily from the television while she had been engaged to Edric.
"No, ignore her. She's just a crazy woman," Irene took Eden's hand and was about to leave when Lily appeared in her way again, "Irene, you don't have to feel guilty if you've done nothing wrong. I've become what I am today because you took Edric away from me! Irene, are you that shameless? What do you think is going to happen if I tell your son the truth about how disgusting his mother is? Or the fact that she took away someone else's fiancé."
Before Lily could finish, Irene's hand flew and landed harshly on Lily's left cheek. The slap made Lily cover her cheek as she broke into tears. Simon, who was observing the women from afar, immediately rushed towards them, "Who are you? Why did you do that?"
"Uncle Simon, you have to teach her a lesson! For my sake! Goodness, it hurts so much!" Lily yelled and sobbed in pain. Simon's eyes widened as they focused on Irene, "Why did you hit her?" Irene looked at Simon and asked, "Who are you? Who is Lily to you? Why are you butting in?"
"I'm her uncle! I saw you bully her before my eyes! How dare you question our relationship?!"
"So you two are in the same boat?" Irene laughed sarcastically. She did not even bother to pay any attention to Simon. She grabbed Eden's hand and turned to leave.
"So you're just going to walk away after beating someone up? Do you even know the law?!" Simon lost control upon seeing her leave. His hand reached out to catch Irene, "Stop right there!"
Lily was elated upon seeing Simon grabbing Irene. Just as she was going to push Irene, a serious voice sounded, "Get your dirty hands off her!"
The person who Edric had arranged to protect Irene showed up. He shoved Simon's hand away and landed two punches on the man's face, making him dizzy. The bodyguard even questioned with a fierce face," What do you want to do? Are you tired of living?"
Seeing that Simon was getting beaten up, Lily was shocked. It turned out that there was someone guarding Irene. She realized that her plan would soon fail. Simon deserved to get hit anyways. She turned around and wanted to run away, but she did not expect that someone had thrown a banana skin on the ground. She stepped on it and fell.
Lily fell to the ground heavily and let out a scream, startling Irene.
Lily fell onto the ground and covered her stomach with her hands in pain, screaming hysterically, "It h-hurts so m-much! H-help me!"
Lily's ear-splitting scream startled everyone. The bodyguard and Irene looked at her at the same time. Irene asked the bodyguard to let go of Simon. Simon did not care about the bruises on his face. He rushed to Lily's side and asked, "Lily, are you okay?"
"My body hurts... My stomach hurts.." The pain was too much for Lily until her face was distorted.
Simon had never encountered a situation like this. Seeing Lily lying on the ground in pain, he was scared and stunned for a while. He did not know what to do.
Lily could feel something wet flowing beneath her body. She was scared to death. She held Simon's hand tightly and cried out continuously, "The hospital...Send me to the hospital...My baby...It hurts... It hurts so much..."
Seeing Lily's pants stained with blood, Irene was also shocked. Her dissatisfaction and hatred for Lily dissipated with it. It was a matter of life and death. She could not afford any more delays. She immediately ordered the bodyguard to send Lily to the hospital.
Along the way, Lily kept screaming. Her screams were ear-splitting. She was such a vicious woman that even in a situation like that, she never forgot to have her guard up against Irene. She ordered the bodyguard to take her to Marie's hospital.
The bodyguard had wanted to send her to the nearest hospital for treatment. As per Lily's request, he now headed for Marie's hospital instead.
Simon also recovered from the shock. On the way to the hospital, he called Marie and told her about Lily's situation and asked her to arrange someone to operate on her as soon as possible.
The car stopped at the front gates of the hospital. Several medical staff were already waiting for them. Lily was immediately sent to the operating room. Naturally, Marie would not let her own daughter down. She specifically arranged for the best gynecological expert in the hospital to treat Lily.
Only after Lily was sent to the operating room, did Marie have the time to ask Simon about the details and he told her the whole story. However, he was unsure of how Lily had actually fallen down. When the incident happened, he was being taken care of by Irene's bodyguard. He had no way of knowing how Lily had actually fallen down.
Hearing that Simon had been beaten by the man who happened to also bring Lily to the hospital, Marie then noticed that Irene was also present. Her intuition was telling her that Irene had to be the reason for what had befallen Lily. She cast an angry look at Irene, "Irene, did you push Lily down and hurt her? How could you be so vicious?"
Before Irene could answer, the bodyguard next to her said, "Miss, you have to present your evidence or else you'll be accusing someone. I can sue you for your irresponsible words!"
Marie was unable to get a word in because of the bodyguard. She looked at him fiercely and asked, "Who are you? Do you think you have the right to speak here?"
"He is the person who I've sent to protect Irene. Dr. Walker, do you have any objections?" A cold voice echoed throughout the corridor. Marie looked over and saw Edric appearing in front of them. Edric had always been polite and he always called her Madam Walker. Marie was not used to him calling her 'Dr. Walker' instead. She asked, "Edric, w-why are you here?"
Edric did not pay any attention to her. He had rushed to the hospital after hearing the bodyguard's phone call telling him about the incident. Seeing that Irene was safe and sound, Edric breathed a sigh of relief. His tone was full of remorse, "How many times have I told you? To be kind to wolves is to be cruel to yourself. Why don't you listen to me?"
"I-I have a bodyguard, right?" Irene saw Marie's expression and also knew that it was inappropriate for her to be in the hospital. "It's none of your business even if you have a bodyguard. The most important thing for you now is to pay attention to your own safety. It's not your responsibility whether others live or die."
Marie felt very uneasy when she saw Irene and Edric talking calmly. Didn't Edric hate Irene? Why was he talking to her calmly? What had happened? Was there something she didn't know?
Lily was carrying Edric's child, but Edric's tone was completely indifferent. Marie couldn't help but say, "Edric, Lily is having an operation inside. She's in critical condition."
"Does that have anything to do with me?"
"Edric, the child is yours. How could you say that?"
"Mine?" Edric smiled coldly, "Dr. Walker, it's too early to say that! Let's wait until the child is born first!"
There was nothing Marie could do about Edric's cold-blooded look. She had no energy to argue with him. The person who was having an operation in the surgery room was her daughter. Worried about her daughter's well-being, Marie kept pacing in front of the operating room. She placed her palms together and kept saying in her heart, "Heavens, please bless Lily and her children so that they'll be safe and sound!"
While she was praying, the doors of the emergency room opened, and a nurse came out. She said to Marie in a panic, "Dr. Walker, the patient's condition is not too good. Her family members have to sign some papers before we can continue!"
Marie was shocked upon hearing that. She looked at Edric. His eyes were instead focused on Irene. Marie ignored the nurse's words and pleaded, "Edric, can you sign them?"
Edric sneered, "Dr. Walker, is there something wrong with your brain? The person inside isn't related to me in the slightest bit. Why should I sign them?"
"You!" Marie gritted her teeth and said, "Give me that! I'll sign the operation sheet."
She grabbed a pen and signed the operation sheet. Soon, the door of the emergency room closed, and Marie continued pacing outside. She really wanted to go in and see what happened, and even wanted to personally take charge of the operation. However, the person inside was her daughter and she was too emotional to do it by herself. It would be better for someone else to lead the operation.
"Irene, let's go. What's happening here has nothing to do with us. There's no need for us to stay here," Edric pulled Irene's hand and was about to leave when Irene stopped him, "Don't you want to know what your child looks like?"
Edric was stunned for a moment and laughed, "You are right. How did I forget? This is the moment to witness a miracle. We can't leave just yet!"
He helped Irene to sit down on a chair at one side. He took out his phone and called John, "Invite the reporters to the hospital. They're in for an important news."
"What kind of important news?" John asked.
"Lily's baby is about to be born," Edric answered.
"Okay!" John's voice was full of laughter.
After ending the call, Edric went back to sit beside Irene. Irene sat there for a while before her stomach started feeling odd. So, she stood up. Edric followed suit and asked, "What's wrong?" "The baby's kicking me."
"Should we find a place to lie down?"
"No, a walk should be fine."
Marie's attention was all on Lily inside the operation room and she had no idea how the operation was going. She was counting on Lily and the child to be safe. There were heavy footsteps coming along the corridor. Marie looked over and saw several reporters rushing towards her direction, their cameras and lights in tow. Who had called them over? She subconsciously looked at Irene and Edric. She found that Edric's attention was on Irene and he was turning a blind eye to his surroundings.
Marie was a little bit disappointed. By the looks of it, Edric did not have any feelings towards Lily's children being born. Now that they had come to this point, there was nothing she could do. She could only expect Edric to give Lily living expenses for the sake of the child. The reporters might have just showed up at the right time. Perhaps she could use them to her own benefit.
Finally, she heard the cry of a baby coming from inside the emergency room. Marie's face flashed with surprise. It was good news that the child was fine.
Another noise that sounded awfully like operating tools being turned over followed the baby's cry. A nurse suddenly exclaimed in surprise, "T-there's two!"
