Chapter 231 This Has Nothing To Do With You
After hanging up, Irene found that Edric was behind her, she asked, "When did you arrive?"
"Just a second ago," Edric said with distress, "Irene, please give up on Nathan!"
"Why?" Irene asked.
"I heard everything just now. Nathan already has another woman and a child. Why do you have to bring yourself down and insist on following him?"
"Bring myself down? I don't feel like I'm bringing myself down at all!" Irene retorted.
"Nathan has another woman and that woman has a child. Don't you feel uncomfortable just thinking about that? Why are you so willing to accept her and her child?" Edric asked.
"Nathan treats me very well. Since he has accepted my child, why can't I accept his?" Irene replied.
"I understand what you're thinking. You're accepting Nathan and his child born from another woman not because you love Nathan, but because Nathan treats you well, and you just want to find someone to rely on. Irene, you can't do that. Marriage is something that only happens between two people who love each other. You can't just sacrifice your entire life to repay him," Edric explained.
"Edric, this has nothing to do with you." Irene said.
"Why does it have nothing to do with me? Irene, you surely know about my feelings for you," Edric insisted.
"So what? I'm not obligated to marry you just because you love me," Irene interrupted him.
"Yes, you are not obligated to, but I am your child's father. We have two children. Don't you think that you should consider being together with me for their sake?" Edric stretched out his hand and held Irene's hand, "Irene, I truly love you. Please give me a chance for me to take good care of you and our children!"
"I refuse!" Irene pulled her hand out of Edric's grasp, "Edric, let bygones be bygones. I'm already engaged to Nathan in Mencodia. I'm Nathan's fiancée right now. Please understand that, so we can never get back together!"
"Irene!" Edric pleaded.
Irene turned her head away and said, "Edric, like I've said before, I won't stop you from seeing the children, but I advise you not to think about other matters."
Seeing that Irene was so resistant towards him, Edric was devastated and his hatred for Marie, Deborah and the others increased at the same time. It was all because of those b*tches. If it was not because of them, he and Irene would not have become like they currently were. He would never let them off easily.
Marie really thought that everything would be fine after she dealt with Tommy. What a joke. He would definitely give her a big 'gift' as soon as possible for her to enjoy.
After dealing with Tommy, Marie's mood was excellent. So, she only needed to deal with Rowane. However, since she had handed the matter over to Dunn, she believed the matter involving Rowane would be taken care of soon enough.
Marie already had plans to buy a property prior to that. Later on, she saw an apartment that had exquisite interior design and bought it immediately. Then, she moved into the apartment. Marie would always be in a daze as she felt empty in her heart, because she still missed Malcom a lot.
She could not just let Malcom return to Lydia's side like that. She thought that if she could not obtain what she wanted, others could not have that too. Thus, Marie planned to let Malcom and Lydia have a falling
out.
However, to her surprise, she saw a piece of news about Malcom and Lydia. They were wearing a set of matching clothes, looking very radiant.
Seeing the news and the photos of those two, Marie felt so uncomfortable that she kept on tossing and turning that night and could not fall asleep. She went out the next morning with dark circles under her eyes. When Marie was about to go to the hospital in a bad mood, she was stopped by someone at the entrance. "Marie!"
The one who had stopped Marie was a thin man. He was dressed in casual clothing, and she could not recognize who he was, so she asked, "Who are you?"
"I'm Simon!" he said.
The word 'Simon' made Marie's face change. Didn't Deborah say that Simon would not be released for life? What was going on? When she was thinking about it, Simon reached out to hold her hand, "Marie, I'm so glad to see you."
Marie felt disgusted when Simon's rough hands touched hers. That man had hurt her heart so much. It was he who had touched her tender body with those disgusting hands. He was that vulgar man who took her body. In her memories, this man was no more than a nightmare for her.
She could not wait for him to die. How could she be happy to see him? She quickly pulled her hand out of Simon's grasp, "When were you released?"
"Just now. I originally wanted to look for you and Deborah after getting released, but I heard that Deborah is Mr. Cook's wife, so I didn't dare to go to her. Then, I heard that you were here, so I came to find you first. Marie, I haven't eaten for a day. Let me go to your house to have something."
Simon actually wanted to go to her apartment to eat. How could Marie not feel disgusted? It was impossible for her to let Simon in her apartment. She pulled out some money from her pocket coldly and told Simon, "Go eat by yourself. I have something to do right now, and I have to go to work."
Simon clearly saw the disgust in Marie's eyes, and he really did not feel too comfortable. One of the reasons why he had initially disagreed to cooperate with Edric before was because he fantasized about obtaining freedom and starting anew with Marie.
Nevertheless, he never expected for Edric to tell him the truth about the past. After learning that he was sent to prison because of Deborah and Marie, Simon was stunned. He could not believe it at all. He kept on believing that Edric was deceiving him. It wasn't until he found the woman who had accused him of murder, and listened to her side of the story that Simon finally believed in Edric.
He had been so loyal to Marie, but how could she do that to him? Simon did not give up. After asking for Marie's address from Edric, he deliberately went there in-person just to see Marie's reaction. Yes, Marie still had a smile on her face, but her actions betrayed her. Later on, Simon completely came to his senses after seeing the disgust in her eyes.
It was no wonder that people said that beautiful people were vipers. As of that moment, he really had encountered two vipers. One was Deborah, and the other was Marie. Thinking of the inhumane life he had spent in prison over the years, Simon's hatred for them grew.
He would not let Marie off easily. He had to get back at her for the humiliation he had suffered.
Simon took the money from Marie and left. Seeing that he did not pester her, Marie breathed a sigh of relief, but after a short while, she thought about it again. She knew very well how shameless Simon had been at the start. It was impossible for him to let her go so this easily after being released. What should she do then?
Marie's initial plan was to hide in a hotel for a few days, but hiding herself like that was not a good plan. It was impossible for her to not go work in the hospital for a lifetime. If Simon went to the hospital to make a commotion, what should she do?
Marie's heart was not at peace for the whole day. After giving it much thought, she decided to talk to Simon. If he did not pester her, she would give him a sum of money to help him make a living. If he did not agree to that, then she would show him no mercy.
In the evening, when Marie returned to the apartment, she saw Simon standing downstairs and waiting for her. Sure enough, Simon was still haunting her, which made her feel sick, but she held back her anger and brought Simon into her home.
After inviting Simon to sit down, Marie asked Simon what he was planning to do. Simon smiled and said, "What plan can I have? I'll just follow you!"
At that point, Marie couldn't help but say, "Alright, I'll give you some money. You can rent a house and start a business. What do you think?" Marie took out a card and handed it to Simon, "There's a hundred thousands dollars in it, which I've saved all these years. You can make do with it."
"Business? I don't think I have the ability to do so," Simon shook his head, but sneered in his heart. Marie wanted to send him away with a hundred thousand dollars after doing all that to him. "You'd better keep the money. Let me stay here for a few days to get familiar with my current environment, and then I'll find a job, so we can live together again."
Knowing that Simon would not be so easy to deal with, Marie sighed and said, "Simon, you had been sentenced for so many years, and it's impossible for me to stay single for a lifetime. I'm married now, so it's not that I don't want to take you in, but that I have no way to take you in."
"So, you're married? What does your husband do?" Simon acted like he was curious.
"My husband is a sculptor. My husband has something to do abroad and is not at home for the time being, that is why I dared to let you in here," Marie answered.
Simon had already learned everything about Marie from Edric. Seeing how she was trying to abandon him, the hatred in his heart grew, but he did not show it on his face, "It doesn't matter. I'll stay here for a few days first. I'll leave when he comes back from his business trip."
"No, Simon, I'm not alone now, I have a family. I have to pay attention to how I act, so I can't let you stay here," Marie explained.
"Marie, are you deliberately saying that to me because you hate me?" Simon looked at Marie and said, "I know you are a famous doctor now, and I am just a criminal. The difference between us is too big, so it's normal for you to dislike me. However, I've done so many things for you in the past, and I even went to prison for you. Can you not be so heartless?"
"I'm not lying to you. I really am married. This is a photo of my husband," Marie showed Simon a photo of Malcom.
Simon took over Malcom's photo and pretended to look at it. Then, Simon asked in feigned surprise, "This is your husband?"
"That's right," Marie answered.
"I knew you were lying to me. Isn't this man married? I saw the news that he and his wife went to a temple a few days ago. How can he be your husband? Marie, you shouldn't have such intentions!"
It was out of her expectations that Simon had already read the news of Malcom and Lydia paying the temple a visit. Marie was speechless. Simon sneered, "It's said that b*tches are ruthless. Marie, you're not a b*tch, but how can you be more ruthless than one?"
Upon hearing Simon's vicious words, Marie got annoyed, "Simon, I owe you nothing, so don't go too far!"
Seeing that Marie's expression had changed, Simon's expression also changed, "Marie, even if you want to abandon your benefactor upon achieving your goal, you still have to remember who I am. I've kept the fact that you had called me to swap Deborah's child in the past as a secret until now. Aren't you afraid that I'll tell Deborah about it?"
He was obviously threatening her. Hatred flashed across Marie's eyes. Since Simon insisted on walking this month when he had another choice, then she would show him true hell.
Marie did not try to chase Simon away, and just let him stay. Worried that Simon might have ulterior motives about her, she locked the door from the inside when she went to bed at night. Marie then started to think about it while lying on the bed.
Simon was serious about her, so it would not be that easy to get rid of him. Since she had no choice but to put in the effort to get rid of him, she needed to find a way to secretly deal with Simon.
Marie did not fall asleep till the latter half of the night. In a daze, she felt that something was pressing on her body. She muttered and tried to turn over, but she could not.
