“Please save me first, my child can’t hold on much longer.”

The instinct to survive, driven by my child, prevented me from exhibiting any semblance of modesty. I did not want to die, nor did I wish to be a martyr, I was simply a mother.

Mason’s brows furrowed deeply.

It was evident he was torn at this moment.

“Mason, it’s alright. I don’t have long to live anyway, the child is more important,” Erica said with a self–deprecating smile.

Upon hearing this, Mason closed his eyes

heavily and said in a hoarse voice, “Please

rescue my wife as soon as possible.”

When he reopened his eyes, there was a fleeting look of disappointment as he gazed at me.

Then, he turned to Erica with a face full of guilt, seemingly blaming himself for abandoning her.

“Rica, I’m sorry.”

Hearing him use that nickname made me doubt my hearing. I used to love it when Mason called me Rica, but now, knowing it was also his first. love’s nickname, it made me want to cry. In the dead of night, who was he truly calling out to with such deep affection?

Erica shook her head and forced a very weak

smile.

“Mason, don’t worry about me. I’m much better now. Your wife and child are more important.”

In Mason’s eyes, compared to the

understanding Erica, I seemed much more

selfish.

Erica curled up like a fragile porcelain doll, evoking an overwhelming sense of pity.

Mason’s eyes were red, the very image of a man who had lost his beloved

Once I was rescued, the medical staff hurriedly placed me on a stretcher to check my condition.

Everyone was methodically doing their jobs, while Mason stood motionless, seemingly trying to encourage Erica.

“Mason.”

I called out several times before he finally heard my voice

“Ulrica, are you alright?”

I wanted to comfort him, but recalling the earlier situation, I changed my tone, fighting back tears, and said, “My stomach hurts so much, Mason. I’m so scared for our child.”

He sighed softly, absent–mindedly holding me in

his arms.

“Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you,” he reassured me, but his eyes kept darting

toward the elevator.

Seeing Erica being rescued, Mason wanted to go to her, but I clung to him tightly.

“Mason, you’ll stay with me, won’t you?”

“Yes, I will stay with you,” he said soothingly, but then he pried my hand away and resolutely walked towards Erica.

“Rica, how are you?” He grabbed Erica’s hand, trembling, and shouted for the doctor to come.

over.

At this, Erica could no longer hold back. She cried and threw herself into Mason’s arms, sobbing, “Mason, I was so scared. I was so afraid I would never see you again.”

Watching them embrace so tightly, I felt as

though I heard the sound of my heart being torn

It turned out that this term of endearment was

never meant for me.
