Chapter 13
Chapter Thirteen
Upon arriving at the hospital, Ulrica, feeling emotionally stable, exhibited signs of preterm labor.
Watching her lie in bed, munching on an apple, Mason finally realized that this time, everything was different.
He and she could indeed lead a happy life together. However, Mason remained uneasy, insisting that Ulrica stay in the hospital for an additional week.
During their stay, while walking in the park, they unexpectedly encountered Erica. Her face was pale, and her body was growing weaker by the day.

“Mason, can we talk?”
Mason hesitated to agree, fearing unforeseen changes in his life.
Ultimately, it was Ulrica who spoke up, “Go ahead! Some matters deserve closure, I won’t be petty about it.”
Sitting on a stone bench in the park, Erica began to reflect melancholically.
“Mason, I’m sorry for my earlier selfishness,
which caused you both to suffer.”
Mason shook his head, assuring her that he was now very happy and had long forgotten the past’s troubles.

Spotting Ulrica in the distance, he smiled contentedly.
“Erica, please take care of yourself. My wife is a bit tired, we need to head back.” With that, he strode purposefully toward Ulrica.
Erica watched him walk away, biting her lip and then sank to the ground, weeping bitterly.
Time flew by, and soon it was the day of Ulrica’s delivery. Just as in the past life, she gave birth to a robust baby boy, his cries resonating loudly, entirely unlike the frail infant from before.
In the hospital room, Mason gazed at the sleeping pair–mother and child–with tears of joy streaming down his face.
Countless nights had been spent waking from

dreams, fearing that this happiness was merely a figment of his imagination.
Fortunately, it was all real.
As Ulrica’s arm slipped from the blanket, Mason reached to cover her, only to hear her cold voice, “Don’t touch me, you’re dirty.”
Startled by her icy gaze, Mason stumbled back, feeling as though he were transported through time.
Lying on the hospital bed, he awakened fully to the reality of Ulrica’s expressionless face, offering a bitter smile.
In her final moments, she wouldn’t even grant him the solace of a beautiful dream.
