Return of the Lycans (part 1: The Lycan's)

Chapter First time at the table with the Black family.

‘Hihi, yes good times,’ my mother says just as I enter the kitchen. I look around and hesitate to sit down. There are two empty chairs at the table, but I know their son will join them.

‘Sit down next to your mother, girl,’ says Luna Vera. I sit on the chair and watch how the food is scooped into my plate by Luna Vera.

“Would you like some beans?” she asks. I nod, and then she puts the plate in front of me. Just then, Damon casually walks in.

“Hello, everyone,” he says as he sits down at the table directly across from me.

‘Ah, you’re still coming to eat. Caroline, this is our son Damon.’ Damon nods to my mother.

“And this is…” Damon interrupts his mother before she can finish, muttering, “Lana, I know.”

Alpha Erik absently says, “Ah?” “Yes, I already have them…”

Alpha Erik sits still and looks ahead with a strange expression. Damon looks at his father with a concerned look and waits to put the plate he just received on the table. Alpha Erik nods and then smiles at my mother and me. Then he says, “Um...excuse me, but I have to go away on pack business.” The Alpha and Luna look at each other and then Vera nods. I think they used their link at this point. I keep thinking it’s weird that they can do this, but soon enough I’ll know what it means to have others in your head. Damon now looks at both his parents and asks with some suspicion, “Something bad?”

“No, just something they want to show me. Don’t wait for me to continue eating. I’ll be back as soon as possible. ′ Alpha Erik gives Luna Vera a kiss on her lips before he stands up.

“And Lana, are you excited to start at your new school?” asks Luna Vera when her husband is gone.

‘Uh, I don’t know. I’m glad they have the same classes I took at my previous school.’

“What are you following?” she asks curiously.

‘Economics and Modern Languages. I am in my last year.’

“Ah, it’s his last year for Damon too. He follows business management. I think you have some lessons together. Son, will you show her the way tomorrow? ′ Damon gives his mother an annoyed look as he puts a piece of meat in his mouth.

“Yes, sure, Mother?” We look at each other and I don’t want to look at his piercing gaze. So, I look at the board in front of me.

“When is your birthday, girl?” Vera asks. I look back at Luna Vera and reply: ‘In a month. My birthday is the fourth of February.’

‘Oh, so exciting, you will almost be able to hear your wolf.’

‘Yes?’ I ask and look at my mother with an open mouth. Thanks for the information mom!

The Luna and my mother share a few looks. The Luna’s look concerned. My mother’s warning. Unfortunately, I also look at Damon, who is curiously looking at both women. I’m sure he’ll tease me even more now that I know next to nothing about the werewolves.

‘Vera, I’ll tell her everything now that we’re back among the wolves. We still have time.’

“Yes, but Carol—”

“There’s still time, Vera,” my mother replies shortly before she pushes the chair away and throws her napkin on the table. My mother storms out of the room and Vera follows her. Damon plays with his food before popping a large chunk of his raw meat into his mouth.

“You already have your wolf?” I ask him.

‘Mmm, yes. Thor. We found each other in October.’

‘And?’ I ask curiously.

‘And what?’

“How... how was your meeting.”

“At first it was strange to hear his voice. He was a little too cheerful and kept me up all night. I quickly learned to block him, but he is stubborn. The first transformation on my birthday was painful, very painful. After that...”

“Beep, beep.”

He looks at his smartphone and a smile appear on his face. He stands up and leaves the room. I sigh and look at my empty plate. Very nice conversation Damon! Thanks for sharing that before leaving me alone. I scoop some more peas and eat in silence, but I don’t like it.

When I get to the top of the stairs, Damon is on the phone. I secretly listen.

“Yes... no... My mother’s old friend and her daughter have arrived...”

He giggles and replies, ‘You always want to know what they look like and no, you shouldn’t be afraid. I’m not going to leave you for her... Brown wavy hair down to her back. Amber coloured eyes... Yes, she is slim and big too. You see it’s a daughter of an Alpha... how am I supposed to know? Honey, are you jealous of a girl who lives in my house?... What... I know it’s your birthday in a week. What Mate are you on that again now. Argh, you always must argue about everything. You know I’m stronger as an Alpha with my true Mate... Then we’ll part ways.... Yes, you heard me right, if I don’t feel it then I’ll have to keep looking.’

It’s quiet and I hear him sigh deeply. “The bitch, she just hung up or what?” He slams the door of his room and a minute later he turns on his music loudly. I go to my room, fall back on my bed and think about how my first day of school will go. His sweetheart won’t be happy when we both arrive in his car on my very first day of school.

I take my two pills. I’ve been taking them both since I had my first period. One is obvious. It is there not to have children. The other is an herbal blend to mask my strong smell. The disadvantage of an Alpha’s daughter. Not only are my senses stronger, but so are all the other things. This pill should stop my heat. That’s why I’m taking them before I turn eighteen. The heat is a period when a female werewolf is very fertile, but also very eager for sex. When she finds her fated Mate, she can’t help but get pregnant as soon as possible. A female Alpha blood werewolf is the worst of all, as it is of utmost importance to have an heir as soon as possible. And now tell yourself. In these modern times it is strange to walk around with a baby in your arms at the age of eighteen. Fortunately, that is something my mother already told me. I’ll have to figure out the rest myself. I think?

My first night I fall asleep quickly. The blankets are super soft, and I crawl into a little ball. The blankets around me are like a little warm nest.

I walk in the forest and look at the full moon deep above me. The moon feels warm, even though I know it can’t. When I get to the river, I look into the water. My reflection smiles at me before I see a change in my eyes. They turn red like my father’s and before I can see it a mouth with sharp teeth emerges from the water. I startle and fall backwards on my ass. Then I run it. I hear the growls and snarls and see a shadow chasing me.

“This isn’t really Lana. Stop and look behind you.” I do what the voice says and see myself.

“We are not that monster,” says the voice.

“We?”

“Yes, you and me, your wolf.” I look at myself and now see two purple eyes.

“Hello, I am Zoë.”

“Hello, Zoë.” I wave to my reflection.

“Shouldn’t you be a wolf?”

“No, it’s your dream. You’ll see me at our first transformation.”

“Shame.”

“We certainly won’t look like the man you called father. I assure you!”

“Nice.”

“Nice, it will be.”

“Zoe, I have so many questions. My mom never told me much about us werewolves. Just a little bit of the basics and I’m afraid of my first transformation. The pain? Is it really that bad?”

‘I won’t lie to you. The first transformation is very, very painful, but remember this. Your next ones will be automatic, and you won’t feel any pain anymore.’

***

I wake up and investigate the darkened room.

“Zoe, do you hear me?” I whisper quietly.

“Loud and clear, Lana,” my wolf whispers. A wide grin spreads across my lips. I got my wolf, and she arrived sooner than expected.
