Chapter 42
Selena was skeptical. ‘Who would willingly do such a thing?‘ She asked, “Jessica, does Annie have anything on you?”
Jessica stubbornly denied, “No. Just drop it, Selena.”
She thought, ‘How could I possibly explain? Should I admit that there were some compromising photos of me in Annie’s possession?‘
Selena was so infuriated by Jessica’s lack of gratitude that she stormed off without even eating, while Annie calmly finished her dinner under Jessica’s enraged glare and Mira’s hesitant looks.
After dinner, Jessica stopped Annie and demanded, “Can I have the pictures back?”
“What pictures?” Annie asked, confused.
Her reply instantly infuriated Jessica. Her voice turned sharp with anger. “Are you going back on your word?!”
“Have you misunderstood something?” Annie replied casually. “You asked me to get you out of Mason’s clutches, and I did it. How is that going back on my word?”
She had never promised to delete the photos or give them to Jessica.
“Annie you bitch!” Jessica was fuming, her once refined looks now distorted with rage. She had been played again.
“Mira, let’s go.” Without a glance back at Jessica, Annie and Mira got in the car and left.
In the car, Annie spoke up, “Ask away.”
“What?” Mira tilted her head, looking at Annie.
Annie gently gazed at her, smiling, “Mira, don’t you have anything you want to ask me?”
Mira, being the kind soul she was, couldn’t bear to see others feel uncomfortable or upset. Considering how Annie had been making things difficult for her cousin Jessica all day, it was only natural for Mira to have some questions.
To Annie’s surprise, Mira shook her head, replying, “No. There’s nothing I want to know.”
“Really?” Annie was taken aback by Mira’s response.
Mira chuckled and said, “I trust you, Annie. I know you always have a good reason for what you do.”
Annie’s heart swelled with gratitude, thinking, ‘Being trusted so wholeheartedly feels amazing.
Why did Annie bring Mira along? Why put Jessica to work as a waitress? Why make Jessica kneel to wipe the wine stains? It was all because, in her previous life, Mira had endured all those hardships.
Back then, Annie had brought Mira to Betrico to give her a taste of the good life, but Mira couldn’t sit around doing nothing, feeling uneasy about freeloading at the Sanders family’s expense. She took it upon herself to water the plants, clean up, cook -all the chores, and Jessica and Yolanda really treated her like a servant, barking orders at her.
Once, Jessica and Yolanda held a small get–together and asked Mira to help out. Things took a wild turn when Mira accidentally spilled a drink on a guest’s shoe. The guest asked Mira to kneel down and clean his shoe by licking it. Jessica, who was right there, not only stayed silent but actually joined in as a helper.
Treating Mira like a slave, Jessica pinned her on the ground. Annie doubted that Jessica had ever thought that she could end up in Mira’s situation one day.
Annie reached out, grasping Mira’s hand firmly, saying, “It’s alright now. That’s all in the past.” Then she thought to herself, ‘Those who harmed Mira in my previous life won’t escape this time.
In the Sanders residence, Tom arrived home and was immediately pulled into a room by Jessica and Helen.
“How did it go? What’s Mr. Quinton Chandler’s take on it?” Jessica asked eagerly.
“It went way better than I expected. Mr. Chandler seems pretty happy with Annie,” Tom said, looking relaxed with his legs crossed.
Tom hadn’t gone in expecting much, but Quinton showed a lot of interest and even promised to clean up the mess Tom had made before.
With a determined look, Jessica said, “As long as Mr. Chandler’s happy, our plan should work. Let’s find over to him.”
Helen, however, had some concerns. “If we trick Annie, what if her parents find out?”

Even though Brian Chandler had a bunch of illegitimate children, Gloria only had two sons. Even if Quinton made a big mistake, the Chandler family would protect him.
Yosef might have a bit of pull in the boardroom, but deep down, he was just a lapdog for the Chandler family who wouldn’t dare confront them head–on.
Helen was feeling a bit uneasy. “What if in the future, Annie marries into the Chandler family and comes back to retaliate against us?”
“Come on. You don’t have to worry about that,” Tom sneered, curling his lips, “Mr. Chandler is just playing around. He won’t actually marry Annie.”
‘So Annie will just be played and left with nothing in the end?‘ Helen couldn’t help but feel a pang of empathy, but then she thought about her son’s life and her husband’s future, and she steeled herself. ‘I’m doing this for my family. It’s Annie’s own fault that she wanted to show off at someone else’s party and got herself noticed. She deserves whatever happens.
Jessica coldly stated, “Even if we regret it now, there’s no turning back.”
It wasn’t just Tom’s issue that needed to be resolved; Jessica had her own scores to settle. Jeremy’s matter, Mason’s matter, and the humiliation at the restaurant. Every single one weighed heavily on her. She thought to herself, ‘I can’t let Annie revel in her victories. She still has my photo, which will someday become a huge problem. Hence, I need to strike first and make sure Annie never has a chance to turn the tables.
In a cafe, Annie was wearing a cap, sunglasses, a scarf, and towering high heels. She sat across from a man.
The man looked at Annie, somewhat surprised. “You’re the one looking for me? Who are you? How did you get my number?”
Annie slid a fat envelope his way and said, “Doesn’t matter. This is what really counts, right?”
The man peered inside, and his eyes brightened. “What do you want?”
Leaning in, Annie whispered something in his ear.
The man hesitated. This is against the regulations.”
“I remember that the Oceans Resort doesn’t have surveillance cameras except in key spots, right?” Annie asked.
Oceans Resort was a high–end club frequented by wealthy and influential people. They valued secrecy, so apart from necessary facilities, surveillance was actually limited. And in areas without surveillance cameras, it would be easy to do things without getting caught.
“But if this is discovered, I could get fired,” the man said.
Annie understood the man’s hesitation and calmly said, “This is the deposit. Once it’s done, I’ll give you another 60 thousand dollars.”
“Deal,” the man replied.
