I wanted to write this chapter to explain how Aviry and Denver came to be. If you do not like side stories or could care less about Avirys family history. DO NOT READ THIS CHAPTER.

I crumpled up the chip bag. And looked back at the two wide-eyed girls behind me.

“We ran off together. Marshal was still on the hunt for us. So we changed our names and hid out for a couple of years. We eventually came across a group of rogues that were tired of being killed off. And we agreed to start our own pack with me as alpha and your mother as Luna.”

“Wait,” Aviry said. “Back the hell up. So, how did Nixon’s dad survive?”

I nodded. “Marshal did survive, but it wasn’t his life. He was blood bound.” I cleared my throat.

“But of course, that was a rumor that floated around. Until I proved it recently. After Marshal and his family were killed. His blood guard should’ve died right along with him. And she did, but she had a child, and that child is in now bound to Nixon.”

“Cay…” Aviry whispered. “I am going to kill you, bastard. I still don’t believe that shit! There is no way in hell that I’m related to you in any fucking way!”

Aviry huffed. “If I could move my body, I’d strangle your neck, and then just before your soul left your body, I’d—”

I held my hand up. “Save your anger until the end of the story Aviry.” I looked over at Denver. “Don’t you want to know what happened to your mother?”

“Thirty minutes, boss,” Fred said.

That’s plenty of time to end this tragic story.

CRASH!

Plates shattered and broke on our new tile flooring. “Sarina, calm down. This isn’t good for the babies.”

“Niro, you son of a bitch.” Sarina threw another plate at my head. CRASH! “Why are you just now telling me this, you deceitful bastard.”

She opened the kitchen and pulled out a knife. “You will never see these children.” She snarled, pointing the knife at me. “I’m going to kill you.” She slung her arm back and threw the knife towards me.

I ducked out of its way and faced my seething mate. “I’m sorry, Sarina. But we can still fix this. Together we can breed more dire wolves—one child at a time, or in our case, two. We will restore the night clan. You will be a queen, my love.”

“NO!” she roared. “This is your guilt. You gassed my people with that shit Niro. If it wasn’t for that, they would still be here alive. There would be no need to breed more of my kind.”

“It’s not…it’s not like that.” I stammered. “I did create it. But…but I stopped it. Please, Sarina, I thought you’d happy. I used the same drug on Marshals pack, Marsh is dead now. We can finally stop hiding. We can breed more dire wolves’ sweetheart. Starting with the two in your belly. And when they come of age, they too will—”

SLAP!

Sarina struck my face. “You are a monster.”

“What the hell are you two fighting about now?” Mina came into the kitchen and placed her hand on Sarina’s shoulder. Mina is the only one who can calm down, my mate. They were blood bound to each other at a young age.

Sarina took three steps back.

“I need some fresh damn air. This environment isn’t good for the babies.” Sarina shrugged Mina off and wobbled out -of the kitchen. Her stomach is humongous; the twins are due any day now. I never meant to stress Sarina out. The health and safety of her and the babies are my top priority. Mina followed behind her.

I slammed my hand on the counter and closed my eyes. “I fucked up,” I said out loud. “How the hell will I fix this?”

The nursery. I can put it together; Sarina has been begging me to set it up for her. But will that be enough? If not, I’ll think of something else. I ran out of the kitchen and took the elevator to the alpha’s living quarters. The nursery needed to be cleaned, painted, and decorated. This is going to take a long time. But I need to fix this. I can’t lose Sarina.

It took a while, but it’s ready. The nursery is finished. To commemorate the night clan, Sarina wanted the walls to be painted black. And I placed stars on the ceiling to resemble the night sky. The chandelier is a giant white orb and is meant to represent the moon. The cribs are made from birch wood trees. On the front, a moon and star are carved on each of them.

Now I just need to show Sarina. Hopefully, she’s calmed down enough to talk. I checked out the bedroom first. And then I went to Mina’s room. I searched the entire packhouse. But my mate was nowhere to be found. Maybe she’s still outside getting air. Yes, that’s it. Sarina wouldn’t leave me. I know the beginning years of our bond were shitty, but we worked it out. Yeah, she has anger issues. And I tend to piss her off every day, but we love each other.

I sat on the couch, my leg bounced with anticipation. Sarina will be back. She just went out for air. We love each other. I kept repeating that in my head, for goddess knows how long. I was past worried now. Mina wasn’t here either. So I had my pack members search the house again.

“Orion. The trackers are ready we can—”

I shot up from the couch and flipped the coffee table over.

BAM!

“I WANTED THEM READY YESTERDAY!” I shouted. “GO FIND YOUR FUCKING LUNA BRAD!”

Brad bowed and left out the front door. “Sarina loves me. Sarina loves me. Sarina loves me.” I repeated over and over again. I continued pacing the living room. The front door opened.

“Brad, I told you to—”

The smell of blood mixed with coffee and cream filled the room. I looked over, expecting Sarina, but instead, Mina stepped inside the room. Her shirt was missing, but her jeans and hands were covered in blood.

“Mina what—”

She stepped past me and made her way to the stairs. “Sarina is fine.” She said over her shoulder.

“Then why the hell are you covered in her blood?” I growled. “Where is my mate?” I followed Mina up the stairs. “Where is Sarina!? Answer me, Mina!”

She paused and turned toward me. “Sarina gave birth while we were out.”

“What?” I gasped. My heart skipped a beat. “Then where the hell is my mate and children!? Are they safe? Do you need help getting them back here?”

Mina held a hand up. “Sarina is well. The girls are safe and healthy.” She exhaled heavily, “But, we are leaving Niro. And when I say we, I mean Sarina and I. She says the girls aren’t safe here with you.”

I growled. “What the hell are you talking about. I would never hurt my children or my mate!” I stepped closer to the woman. “Bring them here. We can talk about this. You know how Sarina gets.”

She shook her head. “This was my plan. We are leaving because of you, Niro.” She slowly stepped down. “She told me everything. You killed her people and mine. And now you want to use her and your children as breeders to restore what you helped destroy?”

Mina stopped one stair away from me. “You will never see them again. And the only goddamn reason you’re still alive is for Sarina. She isn’t strong enough to deal with the pain your death will bring to her. But when the time is right, bastard, I will be back to—”

My idle hand struck out. The hot wet thump in my hands pulled me out of my mind space. Mina and I looked down at my arm lodged in her chest. What the hell have I done. I quickly pulled my arm out, and Mina fell to the ground.

“NO!” I shouted. I fell beside Mina. I pulled her limp body into my arms. “Mina…mina, I’m sorry. Please, don’t die. I’m sorry. I was just so fucking angry. I didn’t mean to do this.”

I shook her. “Mina, wake up. Tell me what this means. Is Sarina ok?” I laid Mina down on the ground.

“BRAD!” I cried as I mind linked him. “HURRY UP AND FIND HER, YOU BASTARD!”

I wiped the lone tear the fell from my eye and continued looking out the window. The car was completely silent, aside from the crunching gravel from the road. We are approaching the packhouse now.

Denver softly spoke.“So if Mina was blood bound to Sarina. Then you—”

“KILLED OUR MOTHER!” Aviry shouted. “Orion, I am going to rip every fucking organ out of your body. And then I’m going to shove them down your throat!”

I bit the inside of my mouth and continue looking out the window. “How could you?” Denver asked.

“It was an accident.” I turned and faced my children. “I never meant to kill her. I loved Sarina with all my heart. I just wanted her to stay with me. I wanted my family. And now I have you both, and we are going to stay together forever.”

“You will die!” Aviry snapped. “We will never have a forever together.”

I smirked. “We’ll see about that.” I turned back around in my seat, as the car stopped.

My packhouse isn’t some fancy-ass mansion like Nix’s. We had to keep our cover low when we were in hiding. So we found an abandoned warehouse. Over the years, I’ve fixed up my home and amped up the security measures. “Welcome home, girls.”

Fred and I stepped out of the car. “Be careful with Aviry Fred. If she bites, put a muzzle on her.”

I opened Denver’s door and unbuckled her. “How do you live with yourself.” She whispered as I began to pull her into my arms. I carried my daughter’s bridal style. And walked away from the car. Aviry was shouting and cursing Fred to hell as he held her in his arms.

“Wait,” Denver said. “I…I know this place.” She gasped. “This is where Joel and I left Tanner and Gail. This is the warehouse where we tracked the missing girls too.” She cut her eyes at me.

I tilted my head to the side. “How did you know about that?” I smirked. “ It doesn’t matter now. I have been searching for you two for twenty-one years. So I send out my men to find girls your age. I always ask them the same questions, like I did that day in the library. If they fail the test, I turn them and sell them off. But, Don’t worry, princess. I don’t need those girls anymore. I have my daughters now.”

“You had Kasey. There was no need to take these women.” She growled.

“Tsk, Kasey was an accident. Birthed by a rogue that stayed here for a while. She means nothing to me; there is nothing special about her. But you and Aviry are my everything. Together we will bring more dire wolves into the world.”

Denver closed her eyes. “You are the devil Orion.”

A/N- Now it's time to get back to the present story.
