Chapter Mates
Nixon
This isn’t happening.
Aviry Mills is not my fucking mate.
But here she is, seizing my heart and invading my mind. Her warm vanilla scent is intoxicating.
I just want to hold her and never let go. She’s mine, but I don’t want her…but I do. I’m confused as fuck. And what’s even more puzzling is the fact that I have to share.
“When will she wake up.” Cay was sitting beside Aviry. Stroking her hair and kissing her fingers. We brought her back to the house after she fainted. We need to speak about this in private.
“I don’t know, but when she wakes up and slaps the shit out of you, don’t be surprised.”
“I’ll welcome any touch from this beauty.” He kissed her fingers. “My beautiful mate.” Yep, the man was love-stricken.
“Cay, come on. There’s obviously been a mistake? We can’t have the same mate. That’s impossible.” I walked to the bedroom window. Cay had told me everything about Aviry and her wolf Mia. Those two flipped my world upside down, and now this competition is in jeopardy.
“We can’t keep her Cay.”
“She’s not a damn stray Nix. She’s our mate.”
“NO, she’s our champion! We can’t have both—”
“The competition doesn’t mean shit to me!” Cay stood from the bed and walked toward me. “The whole reason YOU entered was because of being mateless. And now we have her. Our mate, our luna.”
“It’s against the rules—”
“DROP OUT!!” Cay shouted. And he never raises his voice.
“Why would I do that!? We can always reject—”
“I WILL NEVER!!” Cay growled. He grabbed me by my shirt and shoved me against the window.
“Why are you two shouting.” Aviry sat up from bed, rubbing her head. “And what smells so good.”
Aviry
The smell of mint chocolate filled my nose as I sat up in bed. My head was pounding, and my body was sore.
“What happened,” I remember shifting, but that’s it. I looked up to see Cay and Nix glaring at me with a strange look.
“MATES!” Mia yipped.
“What?” I asked.
“Those are our mates, Aviry!” Mia was so excited.
“What the fuck are you talking about, Mia?” I was confused as I looked at the two men, who were still staring at me.
“Oh, Aviry, don’t you remember what we learned in the library? The scent, the eye contact, the undying love that we’re feeling.”
“That feeling is heartburn, and yes, I remember now. But I don’t want a mate, especially two.”
“Aviry, I know you’re confused, but please hear us out.” Cay slowly approached me. His dark brown hair tousled, His grey eyes were mesmerizing.
“He’s so handsome, Aviry,” Mia said adoringly.
“Mia, stop that shit.” I snapped.
“We are just as confused as you. But we will get this resolved.” Nix with those beautiful blue eyes, followed behind Cay, who shot him a look.
“Aviry, Nix is so attractive. We are so lucky.” Mia was floating on cloud nine.
“Mia…I swear if you don’t’ stop.” I sternly stated. I pushed her further into my mind.
My heart, my beating, and I had a strong urge to leap into both of their arms. The desire to lick their faces and run my hands in their hair was powerful. I want them to throw me on the bed and claim me as theirs, my gorgeous mates.
I’m sick.
I have an affliction.
I jumped out of bed and ran over to the wall. I wanted to run away from these feelings. I’ve never experienced this before.
“Stay away from me! Don’t come any closer.” I shouted.
Both men stopped walking, Nix rolled his eyes, and Cay looked hurt. There is only one way to end this.
“You’re so dramatic. Listen, I don’t want you. Cay, on the other hand, is infatuated with you.” Nix shrugged. “I don’t want a mate. You’re not my type. And I have Kasey as my Luna. So I don’t need you.”
Mia whimpered in my mind, and my chest throbbed. It hurt to hear him say that. And I was pissed that I even cared. I wanted him to hurt too.
I narrowed my eyes, “Then you won’t mind this.” I stood up straight and looked directly at Nix. I smirked, and he crossed his arms, raising his eyebrow.
“I, AVIRY MILLS, REJECT YOU ALPHA NIXON LANCASTER!” I shouted.
“NOOOO!!” Nix roared. He pushed me against the wall snarling in my face. “Who taught you those words!”
“IT DOESN'T MATTER!” I pushed against his chest to no avail. “I REJECT YOU!”
“YOUR REJECTION IS DENIED!” he shouted in my face, spittle landing on my cheek. “YOU ARE MINE!”
I’m convinced this man is crazy. He's flip-flopping like a pancake.
“Aviry, please listen to me. Let’s not make any rash decisions that will hurt all of us.” Cay placed a hand on Nix, pulling him away from me. “Nix, give her some space. Let’s talk about our situations.
“She’s impossible to talk to Cay.” Nix walked away from us, pulling on his hair. “I literally can’t stand talking to her.”
“Well, me either Nix, that’s why I reject—”
“Don’t you dare finish that sentence?” He walked toward me again.
“CAN WE ALL JUST CALM THE FUCK DOWN!!” Cay shouted, which surprised me. I’ve never seen him so upset.
Nix and I looked away from each other. I was a variety of emotions, and the only one I understood was anger. Cay grabbed my hands. I tried to pull back, but his touch instantly relaxed me.
“How is this possible?” I asked.
“The Moon Goddess wants us together.” Cay answered, stroking my hand.
“Can’t we call her or like go ask her to fix this,” I asked shyly, which is a first for me.
“There’s nothing to fix Ave. We belong together, whether we want it to happen or not.” Cay lifted my chin and gazed into my eyes. “I, for one, am ecstatic to have you as my mate.” My breath caught, and my cheeks flushed.
I turned away, “Not that I’m accepting this, but is it normal to have two mates?”
“It’s impossible,” Nix said, leaning against the wall.
“Not exactly.” Cay interjected. “Remember, we are blood bound. Our lives are entwined; your fate is mine, life, and death. This could include mates as well.”
“I’m confused? Are you saying that if anything happens to one of you, it happens to the other?” I was nervous about his reply. “Why would you agree to that?”
“It’s a long story we made this pact as teens. But yes, when it comes to mortal wounds, sickness, or death. We will both face the same fate. Our life force is one.” Cay released my hand and walked over to Nix. “It’s a closely guarded secret that we share. What you do with that information is up to you.”
I’m not that damn evil. For Cay to even trust me with that information makes me want to trust him. But at the same time, now I know that not one but two people can quickly be taken away from me.
“This is a mess,” Nix groaned, rubbing his head. “What are we going to do.”
“Well, for one, we drop the competition.” Cay suggested.
“Fuck that!” Nix and I shouted in unison. We looked at each other and turned back.
“We can’t let her compete, Nix. It’s against the rules.” Cay pleaded.
“No one is allowing me to do anything. I’m going to do whatever I want, mated or not. I want to win.” I crossed my arms. “I’m going to compete and win. We’ll figure this mate shit out afterward. Until then, stay out of my way, and don’t interfere.”
“And I second that notion.” Nix smiled. “We’ll continue like normal, as far as Aviry being a werewolf. I turned her, and we dosed her with bane to control the pain.”
“Sounds good to me.” I agreed.
“You both are impossible. Fine, do what you want. But I won’t suppress my bond to my mate. If I see anything that I don’t like, I’m intervening.”
Cay swiftly left the room, clearly pissed off about me and Nix’s plan.
It was just me and Nix left in the room. Mia was in my head, panting at the god in front of us.
“Ave—”
“You can leave now. I’m still pretty sore, and my head hurts.”
He nodded. “We’ll speak in the morning then.” He walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
“Mia, what are we going to do—”
“I’m not speaking to you until you accept our mates Aviry. How could you make a decision to reject without thinking about how I felt?” Mia retreated into my mind. Her back turned to me.
Holy shit! Too much is going on right now. My top priority now is winning the competition. I meet all requirements now. But in the process, I found two mates. I’m sure that’s definitely against the rules.
I laid back on my bed and closed my eyes. The faint scent of Nix and Cay mingled in the air. I have to admit that I already missed their company. This is all new for me, having people in my life. But, I can’t focus on them right now.
My main focus is on winning.
