Chapter Always and Forever
Aviry
“I love you, Aviry…”
I stopped breathing. At the same time, Cay’s heart rate began to decrease. His eyes closed and he became unconscious. That scent of chocolate and mint was becoming weaker and weaker.
“No!” I shouted. I took Cay’s face in my hands. “No! Cay….Cay, I love you too! Please don’t leave me! PLEASE!” I screamed out. “I love you! I love you, please don’t leave me!”
I fell on top of his chest. My heart couldn’t stay in rhythm. My lungs weren’t taking in enough air. That wet, coppery scent was driving me insane with grief. Mark, Nixon, and now Cay. My whole family just crumbled into ash.
I opened my heart up, and this is what happens? I lose everyone in a single day!? What the fuck did I do in life to deserve this!?
What kind of moon goddess, no goddess bitch. Likes to play games with people’s lives? Right now, I have the right mind to find her and end her entire immortal existence.
“Move!” A voice shouted nearby. “Move! I…I can help!” I looked up to see a wide-eyed Thunder and Rain trying to push through the crowd.
“LET HIM THROUGH!” I shouted out, “HE’S A BLOOD WOLF!”
Kane gasped and looked over my way. His face was streaked with tears, his eyes all puffy from crying over Nixon’s body.
Alpha Sam growled and shouted at the crowd! “MOVE YOUR ASSES BEFORE I KILL YOU ALL!”
“You heard him move the hell out of the way!” Jared shouted.
Rain and his uncle Thunder rushed to Nixon and Cay’s side. “Can you help or not!?” I cried out as I held Cay’s hand.
“We can. Which one was injured more?” Thunder asked.
“THE ONE WITH THE DAMN DAGGER…” I huffed and took in deep breaths. Now is not the time to piss of those just trying to help.
“Both of my mates were injured. Cay was stabbed in the heart.” I rubbed the side of my mate’s face. “Please help him. Help them both!” I looked back at Nixon.
Thunder nodded and took Cay’s hand in his. “Rain, you get Nixon. Their souls will need to come back together at the same time. Since they were already bound.” He looked at me. “If we do this, it will cancel out the previous bond these two made. Wait, did you say they’re both your mate.”
“Yes, yes they are! Just save them both do it.” I cried out.
“You need to pick one!” Thunder shouted. “Pick one of them and mark them. Otherwise, you’ll lose them both since their lives will be tied to ours. Don’t think about it. Just do it before their hearts stop!”
I bit down on Cay’s neck using my canines. He was the one I had a strong connection with. The one who accepted me for me. I looked back at Nixon before I was pushed away.
“Go now, move!”
Both Thunder and Rain bit into the palms of their hands. They squeeze a few drops of blood into Cay and Nixon’s mouth. Using the dagger that was embedded in Cay’s chest. He slit Cays hand and then Nixon’s. Then he mixed their blood. They started chanting, an ensemble of the words, their eyes began to glow red.
But I could only focus on the limp hand of my mate. His heartbeat was no longer there. We were too late.
“Did it work?” I asked impatiently. “How long does this take?”
“If it worked.” Thunder huffed. “Normally, the bond is made before the heart stops.”
Kane sniffed. “So does that mean…”
“We could be too late. I was too late again.” Thunder sighed heavily. “He looked over at Rain, whose was slowly shaking his head.”
We all waited in silence—the night sky was beginning to become lighter. Dawn was approaching.
“UGH!” Alpha Sam growled, “ORION THAT BASTARD.” The tough country alpha fell to his knees. “This is all his fault.” He cried. Jared came over and kneeled beside his fallen alpha ally.
“Aviry…” Denver said from beside me. I don’t know long she’s been here. But she’s been crying beside me. The only family I have left, how could I forget her. “Aviry I’m so—”
I wrapped my arms around her. Denver hugged me back, rubbing soothing circles on my back. “I’m so sorry, Aviry.” She said as I cried on her shoulder.
“I didn’t..” Sniff “I don’t get to say it…” Sniff “Back.” Sniff
“He already knew it, Aviry. Cay knew that you loved him.” Denver pulled back and took my face in her hands. “Cay loved you, and you loved him. He may not be here—”
“STOP!” I cried out. I fell back on her shoulder, crying. I’m not ready to hear those words yet. I took a big whiff through my nose, and smelt a small trace of chocolate. “He may…not…be here. But he will always be..”
“Here.”
That one word rang in my head. That voice I was so clear in my mind. It was like Cay was sitting beside me confirming what I said. I know he’ll always be here with me. And I know Nixon is probably beside him right now laughing at my tears. I took in another deep breath, wanting to smell that chocolate scent one more time…
“Did you hear me?” A voice groaned from beside me. I almost broke my neck as I turned to look. “I’m—”
I lunge forward, grappling on to Cay. I almost squeezed the life out of him again when he groaned and shouted out.
“I’m still…”
“Here!” I shouted. I kissed all over his face. “You are still here! Yes...Yes, I heard you!” Mia yipped and howled in my head. We were both ecstatic and overjoyed.
“Yes, that, and still injured.” I looked down at the wound on Cay’s chest. It was slowly closing up. But I could see the blood still flowing out from my hyper activities.
“Oh!” I backed away but never stopped touching him. I was afraid that I was dreaming.
“What about me?” Nixon groaned. “Fuck that hurt like a—”
“NIX BITCH!” I shouted. Alpha Kane rushed over and pulled Nixon into a bone-crushing hug.
“Don’t you dare die again!” He growled.
I took in a big long sniff. Trying to calm myself with the mix of chocolate and…sniff…chocolate and…
“I can't smell the mint.” I whispered. I looked back at Nixon, who was also sniffing the air. “I can only smell chocolate.”
“That’s because you are mated to only one blood-bound soul now. Not two.” Thunder said from behind us. “When Cay and Nixon bound their souls together. It meant that whoever the blood guards mate was would also be the mate to other.”
“But now the bond is broken.” Thunder added.
“So now Cay will…”
“No. Cay will not have the same mate as me. Because he was marked by his already.”
Cay slapped his neck with his hand and looked over at me with wide eyes. “You marked me?”
I nodded. “I can’t lose you to some other bitch.” Cay chuckled and gripped his chest. “I turned back and looked at Nixon.
I could see the sadness in his eyes; although the bond was broken. I still feel a bond between us. Instead of a mate bond, this was a friendship bond that will never be broken.
“NIXON!” Alpha Sam slapped Nixon’s back. He broke our stare and glared at him.
“I just rose from the dead, you country bastard.” He snapped.
Sam laughed and pulled Nixon into a hug. “I’m glad you’re alright.”
“Yeah, I’m glad to. Sam was about to drown us with his tears.” Alpha Jared laughed. “Glad your ok Nixon. But I guess we’re both back in the bachelor boat again.”
Nixon laughed and clapped hands with Jared.
“Aviry.” Cay called out to me. I turned back to face him. He caressed my face gently. I held his hand to my face. “Aviry I—”
“I love you Cay.” I blurted out. “I love you so much. Mia and I both. Don’t you ever leave us again. Because you are stuck with me. Wherever you go, I go.”
Cay laughed. “I can deal with that.”
He pulled my head down and looked at me with those sparkling grey eyes. “I’ll never leave your side again. I love you, Aviry.”
Two years later…
Aviry
“So I said to him. If he wants to turn the lights on, he can. I’ve been working hard with your training schedule. And I wanted to show Chris this rocking body. But you know what he said?”
“No, Jamie.” I sighed. “I wasn’t there.”
“He said!” She placed her hands on her hips. “I love the flab though, babe.” She scoffed.
“Can you believe that!? Like, when has he ever seen me with my baby pouch out, huh? I’m telling you Alpha Aviry. He’s been sneaking peeks at me while I’m sleeping. What should I do? Please tell me.”
I looked up and linked my hands over my desk. “You should be proud of your body. No matter how it looks. If your mate likes you the way you are. Don’t force a change.”
Jamie drummed her fingers on her chair. Contemplating my words. “Ok fine.” She huffed.
“I guess I can start eating real food again. I’m telling you this healthy dieting has changed me for the worse. For example, Annie asked me for a cookie. And I told her no. She said, why mommy? I said—”
“Times up!” I slapped the timer on my desk. It has been great talking with you today. Please send in the next pack member.”
“Ok.” Jamie sighed. “But we’re still on for game night tonight right?”
“As long as we play charades.” Jamie rolled her eyes. “We always play that. And I’m always the one acting out the cards. Are you sure that’s how the game goes?”
“Yep, uh-huh, I’m sure.” I nodded
“Ok..” she sighed as she opened the door to my office. “Same time next week?”
“Yes, Jamie, Tuesday at one.” Jamie smiled and closed the door behind her.
“Ugh!” I groaned and laid back in my chair. I rubbed my temples, preparing for the next talk session.
“That wasn’t so bad this time Aviry.” Mia said. “Compared to a year back. She had to be escorted out the office by the warriors.” She laughed.
It’s been two years since the fight with Orion, and so much has happened since then.
Nixon and Cay took some time to heal physically, mentally, and emotionally. Physically from the wounds, Orion caused with the silver dagger. Mentally from the broken bond they once shared. They also had to adjust to the new bond with Thunder and Rain. And let me tell you, Nixon has his hands full with that one.
Thunder is much older than Cay. So he’s a lot calmer than Rain. I’d say he’s happy to be separated from that one. Cay, Nixon, and I all had to take time to heal emotionally. Mark’s death affected us all. He was a father to us, and we will miss him. I doubt without him, I would’ve found my way here to my home.
But then again, I have Tanner to thank for that. Orion did a number on him, it took six months for him to heal fully. Denver stayed by his side the whole time. Gail took care of business with hunters in her absence.
When Tanner was healed, he asked to leave the pack so that he could go with Denver. She was the leader of the hunters after all. And not to knock his position, but he’s just a Beta. Once she got all of those missing women back home. The police and the FBI enlisted her as a trusted source for more jobs.
When we got back to the packhouse, we had to rebuild everything. That bitch Jordan and Shelby were still sitting in the dungeon. There was no need to keep them here. When we set them free. Kane welcomed Shelby into his pack. Jordan was charmed and mated to Blue. Bex and Kasey left and joined Alpha Marks pack. They enjoyed the countryside calm.
Ring ring
I looked down at my cellphone.
Incoming call from: NIX BITCH
I answered the call. “What’s up, Nix Bitch?”
“Can you please stop calling me that?” He groaned.
“Uh….no.” I laughed and adjusted my ass in my seat.
“Of course you won’t. Anyway, I was calling to check on you and others.”
“Awww, do you miss us?” I waited for a moment before he finally spoke.
“I do. I miss you guys. But I need this. I’ve always wanted to travel and see the world. But after what happened to my family. I wanted to do everything to make my dad proud. But I forgot about my dreams.” He sighed.
“So how’s Paris? The city of love. Are you searching for that special someone Nix?”
“No, I told you that I want to meet the right girl. My time will come, and when it does…”
“You’ll drug her and drag her back to the packhouse where you’ll ask her to compete in a competition for your love with eight other women?”
“You are so fucking annoying, Aviry,” Nixon growled.
“Damn, you act like that never happened before. Anyways, I’m more than sure both Mark and Marshal are proud of you Nixon.” I assured him.
“Yeah, your right. I’m more than positive. Besides, I deserve a vacation. And Rain loves traveling. Are we still on for the date? Because I can be on a flight immediately and be there for you. Do you need me to bring—”
“Will you calm the fuck down.” I groaned. “Your acting like the father of this pup.” I rubbed my colossal belly after I felt my kid kick. He or she is going to be a fighter just like mama.
“No cursing with the baby!” Nixon shouted.
“Look between you and Cay.I don’t know whos’ worse.”
“I just don’t want my niece or nephew to come out cursing at the poor pack doctor when it’s time to deliver.”
We both laughed. “Be sure to be here by the end of the month. And before you ask, yes, we have everything handled over here, former alpha now Beta Nixon.
“Just Beta Nixon will do. Where’s Cay?”
“The same place his phone is.”
“You’re such a smart ass.” The phone hung up at the same time there was a rap on the door.
I sighed. Another damn talk is now in session. It was Cay’s idea to establish Alpha talk Tuesday.
Any pack member who’s brave enough to knock on my door will be welcomed with a smile and are open to talk to me about anything. I must offer them positive advice or just be that ear for them. It’s like a trust exercise.
When Nixon stepped down, Cay and I took over the pack. Even with Cay here, the members wanted to leave because they feared me as their leader. Over time, I gained their trust. It was hard as fuck not to pop off though.
“Come in.” I said in a friendly voice.
The door opened, and in came…
“AVIRY!” Denver shrieked.
“Oh, shit…” I mumbled.
“Holy shit, look at your belly! It’s the same size as mine!” Denver turned, “Tanner stop snooping on me and leave me alone. Go say hi to your pack or something!” She shouted down the hall. She rolled her eyes and strolled into my office.
“Denver…it’s so nice of you—”
“Cut the friendly shit.” She snapped
“Oh thank the goddess.” I breathed. “What the hell are you doing here?
Denver pouted. “What? I can’t come and surprise my sister on my free day.”
“You don’t have free days last time I checked.”
She shrugged. “Being the leader of a growing league of hunters is hard work. Controlling those same hunters not to kill every wolf they come across is daunting work. Besides, I’m officially on maternity leave. And I’m spending it here with you. So move over, sister.”
I groaned and covered my eyes with my hands. “Jamie…prepare a room for my sister….please,” I mind-linked.
“Right on it Alpha Aviry. And what about the others.”
My head shot up, “What damn others Jamie.”
“Umm, let’s see we have Alpha Sam, Jared, Kane, Xavier, and Victor. Along with Heather, Isabel, and Cory. Oh, also Kasey and Bex bitch. Wait… he told me it’s just Bexley. Did you forget you are hosting a gathering this month?”
Yes, I did. Damn baby brain. “Fine. Find Cay, and let him handle them, Jamie.”
“Will do boss lady.”
“So, how’s Cay handling the whole thing?”
“Cay is stressed. He won’t let me do shit physically. He keeps stuffing my face with chocolate and other foods. I can’t work out, so now I’m gaining weight.”
“Ummm…then tell him to stop feeding you.”
I groaned and laid back in my chair. “I can’t control my cravings though. If I don’t get what I want, I get violent.”
Denver laughed. “Tanner refuses to leave my side. He does anything and everything. We have the nursery set up and every parenting book. These pups will be here any day now.”
I slowly stood up and used my left hand to hold on to my desk. “Well, I’m glad I have until the end of the month.” A sharp pain passed through my stomach. I waited for it to pass.
“You ok Aviry?” Denver asked concerned. She stood and wobbled over to me. “Do you need help?”
“I just need some water.” I walked over to the bar.
“Well, let me help you.” Denver took hold of my arm
“Please. You need more help than me. You’re the one carrying twins.” I sighed. “I’m glad that gene passed me. One is good enough.”
We walked over to the bar. I reached up and took out two glasses. “Do you want some?”
“Yea.”
I poured two glasses of water and passed one to Denver.
“Let’s make a toast.” She said.
“It’s just…water.” I said as I narrowed my eyes.
“So. You can toast with water Aviry.” I rolled my eyes. “Ok, let’s toast to…” She tapped her chin.
“Family.” I said. The most important thing to me now.
“Yeah!” We took our glasses and tapped them on each other.
DRIZZLE!
“Damn Denver. How hard did you tap?” I looked at the bottom of my glass for cracks and then down at the puddle of water on the ground.
“That wasn’t from the glass.” She looked up at me with wide eyes. “My water just broke.”
“TANNER!” I SHOUTED, “Come get your mate!”
“AHHH” I shouted. I dropped the glass of water, and it spattered on the ground. The puddle of water grew beneath my feet. Another sharp pain had me grabbing onto my stomach.
“It looks like we’re both delivering today Aviry.” I looked down at my jeans, and sure enough, a wet spot had formed.
“This is your fault!” I growled.
“Why are you yelling at me!” Denver shouted back
“I’m not yelling!” I shouted.
“You are so damn mean Aviry!” Denver cried.
“I can’t help it!” I cried back
“WHAT’S GOING ON IN HERE!” Tanner said as he burst through the door. He looked at both of us, standing in a puddle of baby water, crying our eyes out. “CAY!” Tanner shouted. “Ba..babies!”
Thundering steps ran down the hall. “What! What happened!?” Cay looked at Tanner, and then he slowly turned his head to me. “He held his phone to his ear. Nixon…get here now.”
“Aviry, he’s just trying to help.” Cay pleaded.
I gripped the collar of his shirt. “Then tell him to get it the fuck out!” I snarled. Cay paled and looked over at the doctor, who was shaking where he stood.
“Get..get it out, please.” Cay asked.
“AHHHHHHHH!” I screamed again. These damn contractions are my fiercest opponent. The lights above the doctor shattered. He jumped back and hit the wall behind him.
“It’s like I’m delivering a demon.” He whispered.
“WHAT WAS THAT!” I roared.
“Oooo..” The doctor fainted on the ground. A nurse ran over and fanned his face.
“GET A DOCTOR IN HERE!” Cay shouted.
“FUCK THAT!” I Growled. If you want something done right, you have to it yourself! “Cay, get down there.”
“Get down where!?” he asked, shocked and confused.
“Down to the damn place where you planted this kid!” I pushed him forward. Cay stumbled on his own feet and looked at me with wide eyes. “Now, get ready to catch it.”
“Ca…catch it!?” Cay’s face was paler than the moon. His breathing becomes heavy as he slowly lifted the cover over my knees.
Thump
“I opened my eyes.” And looked around. “Where the hell did he go!”
“He..he fainted as well, ma’am.” A nurse gulped. “I…I can do it if you’d like.”
“Fine!” I growled. “It’s time for me to push. Are you ready!?”
“She’s beautiful.” Cay said from my side. “Just like her mother.”
I closed my eyes and laid back in bed. I gave birth to my little one five hours ago. I’m tired as hell from delivering my child. Cay is in love, and I can’t help but feel a bit jealous. As if he could read my thoughts, Cay bent down and kissed my head. “I love you both.”
I looked into my mate’s eyes. He smiled gently at me… “Wah..wah..” My little Harina cried. “Shhh, daddy’s here, baby.”
Watching Cay soothe our child had my heart crying.
“You did a great job Aviry.” Mia yawned. “I love you girl. But I need a nap now.”
“You and me both.” I yawned. “Sweet dreams Mia. I love you so much, my beautiful dire wolf.”
Mia yawned and laid her head down.
I opened my eyes to see Cay pointing out the window with our child curled in his arms.
“That constellation is called a scutum. It means shield. You’ll always have mommy and daddy here to protect you Harina. And that one over there…” He pointed towards me.
“That woman is the brightest star in our universe, the most important one.” Cay smiled at me. “If I haven’t said it enough. Aviry I love you.”
“I love you to Cay.” I smiled and wiped the tear from my eye.
Always and forever.
