Rejecting The Alpha Twins (Regan)

Chapter My Twins Baby 91

Chapter 91

Regan POV

Pain swept through me, even as I stood between Xavier and Xander, staring at Alpha Jackson's wolf which continued to shudder and tremble in front of us. I had done it. I had managed to get him to consume the vial, only breaking a few ribs in the process. Xavier was pissed at me, but it was worth it. The only thing was... neither of us knew if I had managed to do it in time or if Alpha Jackson was lost to us forever. It was nerve-wracking, standing there, praying, hoping, that his mind would become clear and that the man we knew before Heather and Isabelle had drugged him, would return. If he didn't....then who knew what we would do? I doubted we could go back out and search for Mala again, begging for another antidote or a different one, if such one existed. This was our last resort, it had to work.

"Is it my imagination or is the shuddering getting worse?" I asked, studying the wolf intently and certain that they were becoming closer together and more vicious.

Xavier frowned as he looked closer at his father's wolf. "I think you're right. It's almost as though his body is trying to throw off or reject the herb" he said narrowing his eyes and thinking it through.

"Maybe that's exactly what it's doing. Or absorbing it through the bloodstream and dispelling it" I thought aloud, considering the various possibilities. Mala hadn't said how the antidote would work exactly and I hadn't thought to ask. That was a mistake, I mused. "I'm not sure. But his head is beginning to shake back and forth now" Xander pointed out and instinctively we took a few steps back.

Something was about to happen and we didn't want to be too close when it did.

We all stared in disgust as the wolf began to vomit up a bright green liquid, over and over again, the smell putrid and revolting. It was almost worse than the smell of a rogue and that was saying something.I wrinkled my nose. Xavier and Xander looked equally as repulsed. This was a side effect we hadn't been expecting. I wondered if this was a good sign.

Alpha Jackson's wolf stopped vomiting and then collapsed back onto the ground. I watched as his eyes slowly began to close. He was no longer shuddering. He seemed to be exhausted. Instead to our surprise, his body began to shift, his bones cracking and breaking, until his human form lay on the ground, naked, curled up in a fetal position, much the same as mine had been. For a moment there was nothing but silence as we stared in disbelief. His human form looked the same, even though there were dark prominent circles beneath his eyes and his hair was slightly longer and disheveled. There was no denying that it was him though.

"Does this mean he's back?" Xander hissed.

"Do you think I magically know the answer?" Xavier snapped at his brother, his tone sarcastic.

I rolled my eyes at their bickering and looked at the Alpha on the floor. He seemed vulnerable, his eyes tightly closed but he was breathing, I noted, glancing at his chest which was rising and falling in an even tempo. So he was still alive at least. I went to move forward in order to look at him even more closely but Xander's hand shot out, halting me in my tracks.

Damnit. He was still angry about earlier. I tried to feign innocence, batting my eyelids at him and giving him a small smile.

"What do you think you are doing?" he shot out. "Don't you think you've already risked your life enough?" he added tersely.

"I was going to check on him, seeing as you guys didn't seem inclined to" I shot back defiantly, unable to help myself.

"Like hell you will after that stunt you just pulled" Xavier growled, narrowing his eyes at me, "I'll go check on him. You stay here" he snarled, his tone brooking no arguments.

I opened my mouth to object and then quickly shut it as he gave me a look filled with daggers. Something told me that he was not in the mood to be argued with. I sighed in resignation and watched as Xavier cautiously approached his father. His father remained lying perfectly still, seemingly unaware of our presence. I wondered absent-mindedly if he would even

know who we were or if he would remember everything that had happened. Would he still retain his memory? I bit the inside of my lip, starting to feel a little frazzled. Why hadn't we asked about the side effects? We were so naive I thought with self-depreciation. "Father?" Xavier's voice is soft as he stands beside him, his body tense, poised to move at the merest movement Alpha Jackson makes.

It's as though he still expects his father to attack and that his lying here is simply a trick to get us to drop our guard.

Silence. Xavier exhales loudly and then carefully kneels by his father, shaking his shoulder, and watching as his father's head lolls back and forth. "Father" his voice is a bit louder.

There is a sense of urgency to his tone. I put a hand to my mouth, feeling stricken. I knew it. I knew I was too late. Now I had put Alpha Jackson in a coma, I thought panicked and he might never wake back up. Xavier shot us a glance and then shook his father again, his voice even louder.

"Father. Wake up" he ordered, sounding frustrated.

This time it seemed to have an effect on the man. Either that or Xavier finally got through to him.

We gasped as Alpha Jackson's eyes began to slowly flutter open, a look of confusion on his face. Xavier abruptly stood up, even as Xander moved in front of me, instinctively moving to protect me. I watched as Alpha Jackson groggily sat upright as Xavier moved backward, his hand going to the back of his head as he grimaced. He looked as though he was in pain.

"God my head's killing me. It's almost like it's splitting in two" he groaned out loud, complaining, his brow creasing as he glanced at a mute Xavier and then over to Xander and me.

"I had this strange dream" he began with a frown on his face, "that I put Heather Ramona in charge of the pack and that I killed poor Malcolm" he continued and saw the blood drain out of our faces. "I also tried to kill you, but I would never try to kill my sons..." he trailed off, glancing at us sharply.

I wished we could deny that, but all of it was true. We couldn't protect him from that. He needed to know that everything he thought he had dreamed, he had done. I felt pity for him. Knowing he had tried to hurt his own sons would no doubt haunt him forever.

He spotted the green liquid on the ground, his nose wrinkling. He stood up, swaying on his feet and Xavier moved to help him balance on his feet as he groaned and then looked up, his eyes fixating on his two sons.

"It wasn't a dream, was it?" he pointed at the liquid, his hand shaking slightly. "That's a herb if I remember correctly" he added, his tone filled with rage.

"It's not your fault. Heather and Isabelle drugged you and made you susceptible to suggestions" Xavier told him as his father began to look wretched. "We know it wasn't you" he added in an attempt to comfort his father.

His father put a hand to his face, a look of shame crossing it. "Sot did kill that poor boy, Malcolm?" he said, his voice breaking.

"Yes," Xavier whispered, unable to lie to his father.

It would do no good in the long run. It was better to tell him now than for him to find out the truth later.

Alpha Jackson's face crumpled. He looked devastated. He was not a man who took the taking of a life lightly. Xavier tried to pat him on the shoulder, even as he mourned the loss of a good friend. Alpha Jackson stumbled, and Xavier rushed to correct his balance again. "Where are they?" Alpha Jackson muttered, turning blazing eyes on us.

Silence. Alpha Jackson's expression turned dangerous. "Where are they" he growled, "Where are Heather and Isabelle Ramona now?

"Presumably still in the packhouse" Xander answered, looking nervous "but we can't guarantee that. Our main priority was bringing you back to your normal self."

"Take me back" Alpha Jackson roared. "Take me back and let's see if they have the nerve to face me after what they've done!"

I had never seen such an expression on his face before in the entire time I had known him. I shivered, glad that I wasn't in Heather or Isabelle's shoes.
