Rejected - The Enchantress

Chapter 4

“Hey, Lana. We are here to see Alpha Daniels.” The woman steps to the side to allow us in, not failing to cast an angry glare at me as I walk past her.

“He is in his study. Follow me.” We all follow behind her, the alpha walking beside me and his hand on the small of my back to guide me. We are led down a long hallway to a large wooden door where she knocks loudly.

“Come in.” A deep, raspy voice shouts from behind the door. She pushes the door open and, once again, casts an angry glare at me as we walk by.

“Alpha Syrus! I was not expecting you until tomorrow!” He greets the alpha with a cheery tone and a warm smile.

“Yes, we had some unexpected changes to our plans and had to cut our visit with the coven short.” Syrus states in a calm voice. Alpa Daniels shifts his attention to me and the corner of his lip curls into a smirk.

“She wouldn’t have anything to do with that trouble, would she?” Syrus remains calm as he responds to the man.

“Not at all. The problem was with her caregivers.” Daniels raises his brow, clearly interested by the story behind the ‘problem’.

“You will have to elaborate later. I am sure you are all exhausted. I will have Lana show you to the guest rooms that we had prepared for you.” Both alphas shake hands before I am being guided out of the room and find that we are being led around once again by the wolf who seems to have taken issue with me existing. We are taken to the second floor then down the hall to the left.

“There three rooms are for you. We hadn’t expected you to have an extra guest with you.” She said the word guest with a thick layer of disgust, glaring daggers at me as it slipped past her lips. Yep…she hates me.

“We will make do. Thank you, Lana. Gregory, you and Kevin can share a room.” Neither of them seem bothered, but I feel uncomfortable knowing that they are having to share because of me.

“That really isn’t necessary. I can sleep on the floor and one of them can have the bed. No sense in one of these big men to be uncomfortable on my account.” The alpha smirks and shakes his head.

“Not happening. This is only for two nights anyway, so we will be fine.” Gregory and Kevin head to the room closest to the end of the hall while the alpha opens the door for me and allows me to enter the room that will apparently be mine during our stay. This room is huge, monstrous even! There is a queen size bed with a navy blue satin duvet, light grey walls, dark wood furniture and a glass door that leads to a small balcony. There is a door to the left and it is wide open, exposing the ensuite and another door to the right that I assume is likely to be the closet.

“If you need anything, I will be right next door.” I turn to face him, probably sporting the look of an awestruck nitwit.

“Thank you.” He nods then exits my room, closing the door behind him. I spot my bags at the foot of the bed and waste no time grabbing a clean pair of black leggings and a grey t-shirt then grab my shampoo and conditioner, ones I made with ingredients from the garden, before heading to the large ensuite. Once I have showered and dressed in my clean clothes, I brush out my long black hair, realizing just how long it has grown since it was last cut as ‘punishment’ for being defiant. My hair is just above the dimples right above my ass and having been freshly washed, it is lustrous and soft. The long strands quickly begin shrinking as my natural curls force their way through. I find myself walking toward the glass door and pushing it open, stepping onto the balcony and savoring the feel of the cool breeze caressing my warm skin.

“Couldn’t sleep?” The deep, silky voice startles me as I cast a sharp look to the balcony beside mine, only separated by a short wooden wall.

“Something like that.” I sit down in the wooden chair closes to the railing and pull my legs up onto the chair, crossing them under me.

“The strange dream again?” I shake my head and hear the wood flooring creak as he steps over the short wall.

“No, nothing like that. I just took a shower and decided to get some fresh air. Were you having trouble sleeping?” He smirks as my eyes meet his.

“Something like that. I don’t sleep well in strange places. There’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed.” I scoff playfully and let my gaze drift to the crescent moon that is hanging high in the night sky.

“You and I must have very different beds. I imagine the one in the room here is like heaven in comparison.” He chuckles as he lowers himself into the chair on the other side of my little balcony.

“They treated you rather poorly, that is easy to see. Did they ever hurt you?” I feel my brow crease as I look back at him and try to figure out why there is a sudden fascination with my fucked up home life.

“They would never say they hurt me. They called it discipline. Sometimes it was extra chores, other times it was lashes with a leather belt, a few times I was locked in the basement for a few days and one time he cut about half my hair off. Believe it or not, it used to be down to my knees.” I look away when I see the look of pity take over. I hate that look.

“Did the coven know you were being treated to horribly?” I smirk, the gesture being anything but happy.

“When they sent me to live with the Mitchells, they instructed them to break me ‘using any means necessary’. Unfortunately for them, that only made me more rebellious. I have never been good at being an obedient drone.” He chuckles softly and, despite my desire not to, I find it soothing.

“I could tell you were spirited the second I saw you. They should never have mistreated you the way they did and they damn well should have known that someone like you was never meant to be broken.” I tuck my hair behind my ear and smile, feeling strangely comforted by his words.

“I guess I should thank you for getting me out of there. I don’t know why you did it, but I appreciate it more than you know.” A loud rumble of thunder in the distance grabs both of our attention and his eyes quickly drift back to mine.

“Looks like a storm is coming.” I smile and stand up, leaning against the rail as I stare at the clouds on the horizon.

“It would seem so.” The sound of a phone ringing in his room saps our attention to the glass door on his balcony.

“I need to get that. Goodnight, Caitlin.” I smile and return to my chair.

“Goodnight, alpha.” I hear the door to his balcony close and continue to watch as the clouds roll in. As much as I had intended to make use of the heavenly bed in the room, sleep managed to sneak up on me, pulling me into darkness on the balcony with the stars and moon lighting the night sky.
