Chapter 9
Chapter 9
In the last few minutes, the girl dressed up, and I found out her name was Kate Nelson. “How could you do this to me?” She had been crying and walking across the room, while Elmer was leaning against the wall and shaking his head repeatedly. It surprised me that he didn’t even try to explain anything to her. He was stubbornly standing in the corner while she was going through hell. Then again, who was I to judge him when I kind of stole him from her? It is not like I had a choice but to back down.
“What is going on here?” Lord Knight finally heard all the commotion and sprinted upstairs to check on us.
The way he barged in and shook his head at me was his way of telling me, have done!‘ I lowered my head even further, intending to bury my face in the earth.
‘Look what
you
“Lord Knight! Did you know he married this girl?” Kate was one foolish girl to think Elmer would go behind his father’s back. It was a clear sign that Elmer was very keen on making his father happy and keeping his reputation clean.
“This girl is his mate,” Lord Knight lied, “And she is also pregnant,” he then added to reveal everything to her instead of revealing information to her in bits and pieces. “What?” Kate seemed to have lost her ability to think for a moment.
“I have been your fiancé for so long. Every time I brought up our mating ceremony, you told me to wait till you are crowned as the new Alpha King. But you certainly didn’t want her to wait. Oh! And let’s not forget how you impregnated her right away too,” Kate said, hysterically crying while Elmer stood still with his hands in his pants‘ pockets.
“Did you forget you have a fated mate? How the hell did you get a second chance mate, when I am still not rejected?” she yelled in tears.
I, on the other hand, stood in silence and could barely look up from the ground. I never meant to hurt or steal someone else’s mate.
“I think you should handle this. I cannot deal with something that isn’t my fault,” Elmer finally broke the silence, but it wasn’t something Kate was expecting from him. She probably wanted him to explain to her or to persuade her that she was still his mate and that he loves her. I wondered if the brothers were both the same towards their mates, cold and heartless. He fixed his coat and walked out of the room to avoid answering his mate. “What am I supposed to do now? Am I still his fiancé? should I still expect a mating ceremony?” Kate turned to Lord Knight for help. It was as if she was angry, but not enough to leave him. Usually, if your mate betrays you like this, he will be chasing after you to give you explanations, but it was a complete opposite scenario here. She was running after the father and son to give her an excuse.
“I understand your frustration, but there is not much that can be done at this moment. The second mating ceremony cannot take place until his first mate gives birth to the baby. You know it’s against the rules to leave your mate pregnant or engage with someone else while your mate is pregnant,” Lord Knight tried to make her understand she will be his Luna Queen, but the pain was too much for her to handle it.
“So, I’m just tossed aside now,” Kate let out a scoff, laughing at herself.
“No! You could tell Elmer still wanted to be with you, as you are his true mate. This one was an accidental one. She is his second chance mate, which in my eyes is nothing.” Lord Knight passed me a very disgusting glare before looking her way again.
“How could the Moon Goddess give him a second chance mate, when I’m still here with him, and for him?” Kate questioned her fate while looking for her stuff to leave.
“The moon Goddess works in some mysterious ways. We cannot fight with her,” Lord Knight said, being subtle and not really stopping her from leaving.
“I don’t know what to say anymore. I’m still feeling betrayed. Even if she was still his second chance mate, the fact that he mated with her and got her pregnant says who he wanted,” Kate bowed down to Lord Knight while not even wanting to look my way, and then added, “I need to leave for now. I cannot deal with this right now.”
We watched her sprint out of the room to cry some more, and once she was gone, Lord Knight let out a grunt to get my attention.
“You see what you have done? You played with fire. If the DNA test didn’t come in of your claims, you are done,” Lord Knight warned me before reaching for the door. “And support come for dinner; we don’t eat in our rooms.” His tone was bitter, but not something that was new to me. Pat has used the worst ways to punish me.
I don’t know what kind of dinner we were going to have in such a stressful environment, but I had to follow him out of the room and join him in the dining room. The dining room was in a white and grey theme, with a glass door covering one side of the wall. The Coltrane suspension and beautiful white chairs went well together.
Elmer was already there, his index finger supporting his temples and his eyes staring at me while he shook his foot anxiously.
Lord Knight sat down and motioned for me to join him next to his son, who appeared to be in a bad mood.
“Kate messaged me,” Elmer broke the silence and removed his finger from his temple, “She doesn’t want to be a second mate of mine,” he announced the heartbreaking news to his father, who sighed in defeat.
“I am so sorry!” Lord Knight must know of all the people how it feels like when your mate leaves you. There was a lot of mystery regarding Lord Knight and his mate, but it was kept a secret.
“It is very typical of Trace. He messes up, and I pay for his sins.” Elmer’s voice contained sorrow and a hint of resentment.
“But he is your little brother. I want you to not forget that you are his caretaker. No matter what happens, I don’t want you brothers against each other, okay?” It was weird how Lord Knight heard his son pour his heart out to him, and his response was still to support Trace.
Think of the devil, as they say. The door opened, and Trace barged in with a medal in his hand and a smile on his l*ps.
“Dad! Bro! guess what? I won!” He had his arms spread around when his eyes landed on
and the smile on his l*ps faded away.
me,
My muscles stiffened at his sight, my wolf howling inside me as we saw each other again.
“What the f**k is she doing here?” The look on his face told a million stories, one of
which was that he was disgusted with my presence.
