Chapter 87
“So you are the one that my men reported to me about,” he mutters, looking up at Elise. Hayden raises his head to speak in her defense, but he raises a hand to stop him.

“I know all about your secret in helping a female that got attacked; you refuge even though she is a stranger, but she is an alderman, an enemy to our pack. I need
to explain what that means to us right this instant.”
A wicked smile sprawled on Holden’s lips; he seemed to be enjoying this, enjoying seeing his brother being scrutinized by their father, knowing now he would be in the chief’s good graces instead of Hayden.
“I–i mean no harm, Chief Blackwood,” she says with a curt bow. He lets out a dismissive hum to his men, who bow and leave them. With Holden and Hayden behind her, their arms at attention, their faces stoic as they face their father, the chief of this pack.
“I was saved by your son while I was on the verge of death, and I’m grateful for that. Yes, I might have been raised as an alderman because that is all I’ve ever known, but I am not my father’s child. Chief Dexton killed my mother after he found out I’m not his child, and he said I belonged to the Calhan Pack,” she explained.
Something shifts in his gaze when Chief Blackwood really studies her. It was like he’d seen a ghost of a memory. His gaze crumbled into recognition.
“By the moons…” he mutters in disbelief. “You are Alpha Edgar’s child?” He says it in a stunned tone as he takes a step forward.
Elise is confused, looking back at both twins to see that they look shocked too. “Father, you don’t mean Alpha Edgar Hale, our late alpha king.” Hayden says.
Elise whirls around so fast, almost whiplashing because of it. The old chief nods as she takes a seat on the marbled bench. “Twenty years ago. Your mother, Malia, needed a place to stay after fleeing from her pack. Alpha Edgar, the king of our pack, fell in love with her for a reason unbeknownst to us; she always kept their relationship secret.” He continued.
“She begged him, even when Edgar was ready to tell the whole world and pack that he’d found a bride, but she confessed to us that she was betrothed to Dexton, the reason she away, and the reason she was trying to protect him.”

“My mother was in love with the alpha king of this pack,” Elise repeated on her tongue for it to feel real to her.
“Yes, then that cursed day came. Dexton had used the excuse of so many realms being in
disagreement on killing humans to wage a war on us, especially since we were against killing innocent humans. The silver night joined forces with the Dark Knight packs and came for us,” he continues,
“They brought deadly weapons made by humans, killing our pack members. Malia couldn’t bear that guilt anymore; she gave up hiding and returned to the silver night pack, but Dexton wasn’t done; he gazed a fatal silver–laced bullet into Edgar’s heart.”
A gasp leaves Elise’s lips as she hears about what Chief Dexton did. “In his last moment, he begged not to wage war because the woman he loved had a part of him with her. I couldn’t understand then, but right now I see he meant you were his most prized love. I’ve kept a blood oath with my best friend even till death that I will keep your birthright, his whole pack is your birthright, Elise,” he says.
“That must be the reason the veils opened up for her when she ran to our territory; that magic spell was made from Alpha Edgar’s blood… That can’t only be it,” Hayden mutters, justified.
“No! No! This isn’t true; I don’t believe that!… Father!” Holden calls angrily at the man’s words, knowing his right to the throne is being taken right now. Elise feels like she can’t breathe. All her emotions recurred in her eyes; her orbs changed to that rare violet hue.
“Your eyes, child, it calls to the legend of a wolf who has all the gifted powers, an ultima wolf, an alpha with powers so unheard of we all believed to be a myth, but now it truly shows you were destined to be here, to be the Luna, and you can choose to marry one of my sons.
She backs away from him. “What? -I’m sorry, this is too much. She cuts him off as she runs down the steps of the balcony, with Hayden just right behind her.
“Elise!” Hayden’s voice echoes from behind her.
“Go away, Hayden,” she calls, walking down the steps faster. She feels sick, her body is weird all over, and her birth father wasn’t just an ordinary male but the alpha king of the Calhan pack, who was killed by her ex–father. It was all too much.
“Look at me, El! Breathe,” Hayden calls, stopping her from moving any further. She pulls her to a blind, dark spot behind the stairs.
“I need to go; I can’t stay here,” she shouts at him. She tries pushing him away, but she is still overwhelmed by what she learned. Hayden held onto her, trying to affirm his trust and respect for her.
“Yes, you can, El; this is your home, your true home, your birthright; you are allowed to want things and to choose who you want by your side, you are the Luna, he says to Elise.

She feels light–headed, barely breathing from all the pressure. “Hayden, I don’t feel so good” She could hardly let the last words out as the staggered.
Hayden was quick to catch her before she fell over; her eyes widened in pame. “El” He exclaims. She was limp and passed out in his
He carries her in a bridal style, quickly taking her down the steps to the familiar west wings of his chambers, and he sends a telepathic message to Abby. “Come quick, it’s Elise, she’s passed out. Hurry!” He calls Abby
Hayden then enters his chambers, laying Elise down on the bed. Her body felt warm to touch Moments later, the door opens, and Abby comes in. Her face was struck with panic.
“What happened?”
“One moment we were talking, and then she passed out,” he says as Abby rushes to her side, taking her wrist to feel her pulse.
Her face changed from worry to shock. “That’s not possible,” he mutters in disbelief.
“What is What do you mean? Hayden calls.
“I was so sure. How is this possible?”
“Abby!” Hayden shouts, gaining her attention as she turns to Hayden.
“I can feel another pulse, the baby didn’t die; she is still pregnant,” she says to Hayden. His emotions were nothing like what he could control Elise was pregnant with another man’s child
“Are they sure?” He asks Abby in a whisper.
“It seems the situation was under far too much pressure; she hadn’t taken enough nourishmen since we all though she didn’t have the child anymore,” Abby explains. She walks over to Hayden to comfort him.
Anyone could tell from the way he looked at her that he felt deeply for her. “We have to tell her she is pregnam, he mutters to the alpha.
“What?” Elise’s voice echoes with them, they whirl around to see that she is awake, her eyes wide with anxiety as a hand goes to her stomache
“What do you just say? That I’m pregnant? I thought the baby died, Abby” She called in a strained whisper.
“We all did, after you suffered so much blood loss, I couldn’t feel any sign of life; that child fought to be alive, Elise, your body repaired itself from the inside out,” she says. Abby immediately feels the tension in the room as she backs away from the door. “I’ll leave you to process this.”
The minute the door was shut, Hayden took a step toward Elise, but she raised a hand to stop him from coming closer. “Stop, let me think, please; I can’t believe I’m pregnant. Who the hell would accept a pregnant Mateless female?” She cries.
“El Hayden says with a quiet calm. “I’m here; you can count on me,” he assures. Elise was still in disbelief about Hayden. How could he be so calm about this, about wanting to be with a pregnant female?
“I’m pregnant for a male that doesn’t even want me; I’ve been took
anyone,” she sniffled back tears. “I’ve been betrayed, abused, lied to, abandoned, and chained
in the past to trust up by people who promised me happiness,” she utters with pain in her voice.
Hayden kneels, a gesture an Alpha does for no one, as he holds her hands, kissing them deeply as he whispers. “I will take care of you; I do not care if you feel nothing for me; you’re not obliged to. But I chose you as mine; your enemies are mine; you are my queen.” Something in her shudders at those words. Her wolf lulls from it.
She feels weak beyond reason as she backs her hand away from his hold. “I need to think, please, before she sends down the channel. Hayden gives her a nod of understanding.
Elise was confused about what she should do. She reached out a hand to caress her stomach. She knew she couldn’t make that mistake again and wouldn’t be swayed to be betrayed by someone who claimed to be trusted.
But would it be best to trust her life and hand to another person who vows to take care of her? Could she take that gamble again?
