Chapter 82

“Because I knew your mother, Abby confesses. Elise’s gaze hardened in confusion from Abby’s words, she could only feel stunned and numb all over as she watched the healer.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” Elise starts with a whisper. Her hands trembled in anxiety at her response.

“Because I thought it wasn’t my place to say, but I know you need the truth; I can tell that I know.” Abby explains.

you all

Elise feels her body go numb; she sits up straighter as a bone links in lace before she swallows, watching as Abby takes the seat closest to her. “Your mom, Malia, was a rogue; at least we thought she was; she was beautiful, wild, and so carefree; a joy to be around,” she

starts

Elise couldn’t believe that her kind, conservative mother was someone like this. She couldn’t help but heartthrob in sadness for her mother. How much did Dexton break her to change so much?

She was rescued by our shadow wolves when she was about to be attacked by rogues; we sheltered her, offering her a home here.” She continues.

For a brief moment, she stands up to turn off the loud crying kettle, a still calmness steeling around the room as she takes out two cups before she continues.

“But that was the first of it; I was just a new apprentice healer, and everyone was skeptical at first to let a stranger into the pack, but we let her in, teaching her our ways, our food, and our tradition.” She explains, pouring the heated water into two cups. Hot chocolate.

“And we both got into so much trouble because of Malia’s antics, but I always followed her, even with warnings, because we were like two peas in a pod,” she says. It makes a sad smile appear on Elise’s face as she continues to listen.

“To be honest, I and Malia never got along well in the beginning, but she became my best friend. I knew there were instances where she sneaked out in the night to meet one of our alphas, but I had no idea who, and she never said.” Abby says.

She walks back to the table, gently dropping the warm cups of hot chocolate before she continues, “There was hardly any time to ask her who she was being courted by, especially after our pack was raided. By the Silver pack, they came for her.”

There was so much pain in her gaze, recalling all the memories that the Silverlight pack had done to them: “Dexton, who was betrothed to Malia and was mad with rage, accused our pack

of kidnapping his fiancée, so he attacked with the help of the DarkNight pack with the human hunts guild. And even with the Blackmoon pack to help, word was sent too late to them so we were outnumbered

“Chief Dexton hated humans, yet he sorted their weapons out to kill innocents? How can someone be such a monster?” Elise mutters, her eyes grew cold with rage, she was angry no doubt. Abby took a deep breath before she continued.

“That evil man wiped out our forces and fortress; we were ambushed, and as ghty as our pack was, they used the women as leverage to keep their lives, and in the end, Malia couldn’t take the mess that was happening the guilt felt too real for her,” she drawled with a painful

tone.

“I still remember that day that we were both pushed into hiding, but she came out because she was tired of the bloody battle that started because of her, apologized one last time to me, and walked into the blood–covered blizzard snow with those bastards never to be seen again. “Only if she had known that Dexton used his rage for her return as cover to destroy our pack. I feel sorry every day I didn’t stop her. But I never knew there was a possibility that she could be pregnant.” Abby says.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t protect your mother from that monster, Dexton, but for him to kill her because of it, he is a monster” Abby cried bitterly Elise reached out to hold her hand and

squeeze it

“As for your father, that is a well–kept secret amongst the kings‘ circle; he took over that secret after our former Alpha king Edgar died shortly after the battle, we haven’t had a king till then, and Chief Blackwood ruled us after that. Abby says “I’m sorry, this is all I can say wish I could help you more.

You have done all you can, Abby. Thank you, thank you for this story,” she says sincerely to Abby

She had no idea that the mother’s marriage was just an arrangement just like hers, but her mom had rebelled, making her run away and ending up in the Calhan pack, falling in love and going against her destiny

Even though it was short–lived, she went back because she hated death, and now her wicked father had snapped her neck with no remorse after twenty years together.

Now that the tales of the Calhans pack disappearance begin to make sense, they have secluded themselves from the rest of the world because of that. They were tired of the war and tired of losing their people.

Chapter 82

Elise knew she couldn’t blame them for being on edge, not after bringing a stranger into their home and destroying it. Abby had tried her best to tell her everything she knew, and Elise was grateful for it, but the healer had no actual idea who her father was.

“Don’t worry, Abby, I will find out who I am. I don’t care if Holden doesn’t want me here; I won’t cause any of you trouble; I just want to know.”

“So you are going to fight him? Helden isn’t kind or merciful with his duels, dear,” she warns.

“I know, and I am not afraid,” she assures Abby.

“You know there was this tremendous power I felt from you when you were asleep. My apprentices were afraid to go near you after we found out about your body. Your wounds were healing at such a rapid rate, unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.” She continues.

“And for a moment, your eyes reminded me of the stories we once heard: a gifted wolf, moon kissed by the heavens, a wolf with all powers no one can fathom, a power so rare and revered, a female alpha.” Abby describes.

Elise was still a bit afraid that she could be judged by her powers as she shook her head. “I’m sorry, but I need rest,” she says instead. A kind gaze accustomed to understanding shows in Abby’s eyes as she nods in agreement.

“You can tell me whatever you wish when you are ready,” Abby assures Elise. She then stood up and headed back to the room. The moment she closed the doors, her back leaned into them.

She controlled her breath that hitched; she hated feeling everything all at once: the loss, all her life running, everything. And what happened to her mother felt like history repeating itself; because of her, the Blackmoon pack was almost put in danger by Kyren, and this pack might soon be too if they keep her here.

She knows she’ll need to leave soon, but one thing she is certain of is that she needs to find out who her true father is; she can’t lose to Holden.

And she wouldn’t leave without a fight.
