Chapter 102
Being in the moon city had never felt so nerve–wracking.
Everyone was on edge with the tension growing; the sun had set in no time, a reminder of the dinner all packs must attend to further strengthen their relationship, but with no talk of the matter of war.
But Rygan could barely think of that; all that was on his mind was Elise! Elise, Elise! He needed to talk to her: just another glimpse of her would quench the burning flame of yearning in his heart.
So Rygan had left his chambers first, walking through the compound, his head a mess from what just happened today, and he thought he was processing fully now that Elise was still alive. But that look on her face was like he couldn’t recognize her. that cold, unforgiving gaze caused shudders to rush through his blood.
As he walked through the compound to the way of the dinner hall, he came across the last bastard he’d want to see, Kyren, who was busy talking to his concubine in a wicked manner, his hands wrapped around her neck as he snarled and mumbled
curses.
Looking at Kyren, he couldn’t help but feel his fist bound until his skin turned white. Alvira’s about Elise’s son being sired by Kyren made his mind ring with a dulling ache. What if that child was for this bastard? No, he could feel something was amiss, especially with the way she wanted him to have little contact with the boy.
“We need to talk,” he sends to Kyren, who stiffens and lets go of the female who skittered awa, before turning to Rygan in surprise. Kyren for sure has been a cunning one, but even he too has been on eggshells since he arrived; whether or not he was hiding something, none of them knew.
“Rygan, I’m very surprised you want to talk to me,” Kyren called with a smile. It took a lot for Rygan not to claw out his tongue from everything he’d done to him. He knew he couldn’t punish Kyren for the days he’s locked up because that was an agreement, but he still could kill him for what he did to Elise.
“To what do I owe the pleasure of the black moon beast seeking for me?” he drew on. “Or is it about our surprising visitor?” He called with a smirk..
The anger on Rygan’s face grew as she looked at Kyren. “Did you plan all this? Make sure I wasn’t on guard and made her show up with the child,” Rygan called angrily.
Kyren’s face dulled with confusion, his brows furrowed with realization, then amusement as she looked back at Rygan. “I assure you, I have done nothing of the sort; we were all surprised when she emerged into the room, and of course, she is now mated to the alpha of the Calhan pack. Why would I join forces when I know I cannot have her, and as for her son?” Rygan could barely breathe now; he wanted to hear straight from the male that Ethan wasn’t his.
Before Kyren could continue, they heard a small thud as a small child ran from the corner, bumping right into Rygan’s legs. He fell over, and Rygan turned to him. “Ouch! You’re big, Mr.”
That is when he notices that it is Elise’s son, Ethan. He bends down and cleans the boy up, pushing away that auburn hair- and rosy cheeks to look into his gray, familiar eyes. He felt his wolf growl in response to that pull. “Pup, are you?”
“Let him go now!” Elise snarls; she had been a few feet away from pursuing her son, whom she and the babysitter had been looking for, now only for her to see him with Rygan.
She picks her son up and hides his face away; her protective instincts are trashed out when she snarls at Kyren, who raises both arms in defeat, But as Rygan studied her beautiful face, the first time they got here, he could see panic in them. Eyes that kept secrets that didn’t want to be revealed.
Lunal Luna, I’m so sorry!” An older female comes running towards them. “Ethan ran out of my way, saying he’d go look for you himself,” she Plains to Elise. Luckily for them both, Ethan had already slumbered to sleep in mere minutes as she handed the child to her.
“Please watch him better while we’re at dinner, and don’t let him out of your sight,” she warns the female, who bows before. taking Ethan away. She feels the tension from behind her, and two alphas are staring daggers at her back.
“I don’t want you near my son,” she muttered the moment she was left with both alphas that only brought memories she so much wanted to forget. She passed Rygan, her evening gown swaying as Rygan called out to her. “Elise, please, we need to talk. He called through the channel.
“I searched for you; I yearned and mourned for you. I know that isn’t anything that can excuse my stupid mistakes, but please.” He walks closer to her, his hands raised to touch her arm, while Kyren watches in awe and amazement that Elise hasn’t clawed his hands away. Why was she hesitating?
She could feel something in her body as she peered up at Rygan’s gaze through her lashes.
“What are you doing so close to my husband?” Alvira screeches as she walks forward. Her eyes widened in panic, afraid that Elise was spilling secrets to Rygan.
That cold wall in Elise’s gaze immediately builds back up the moment she hears Alvira’s voice. Her eyes fill with cunning indifference as she looks back at Alvira and then Rygan.
“Tell your husband to stop lusting over me like a sick pup. I mean, you are his mate, right, or are you just a stand–in?” She mocks Alvira before he goes to the dinner hall
“You let her insult me like that?” With her hands bowed in fists, Alvira screeched, but Kyren only laughed, passing them both. But what made her more embarrassed was that Rygan had no notion to correct Elise as they both walked behind the Calhan Luna.
All the packs were called for a dinner truce and a way to lessen the harsh tension between them, but only if they knew what was coming next.
The food was set on a round table, with all the food for the feast already served. Hayden was in his seat. With his hands stretched, he kissed his mate’s hands sensually, but his face frowned when he saw who followed right behind her.
“Everything alright?” He asks
“Nothing I can’t handle; I’m fine,” she mutters, kissing his hand back, something that Rygan watched. His jaw slacked as he grinded his teeth in jealousy before going to his seat, immediately dowsing his cup full of wine.
He watches the sensual touches that Hayden gives her and how she responds comfortably to them; he couldn’t help the jealousy growl till the armchair he was holding onto groaned from his beastly strength.
“Can you stop drinking for one moment, Rygan? You should have defended me from her, I told you she was up to no good to get revenge on me, so you cannot believe anything she says.”
“And why would she get revenge from you?” He asks Alvira, who immediately goes quiet and stutters out words in fear. Instead, she pours a full cup of wine and douses it down her throat. She takes cup after cup throughout dinner until she is fully drunk.
She then looks up to Rygan to see that Rygan’s gaze has not once moved away from a certain redhead. Luna, this time she couldn’t take it. Even as Kaide shook his head slowly, pleading and trying to stop her from acting out in drunken rage, she ended up slamming the table loudly, gathering all their attention as she turned to Elise.
“Can you all at least take your eyes off that power whore? Why does she get your attention when she has fucked three men here?” Alvira screams at the whole room.
This time gaining the attention of all packs in attendance as the whole hall goes silent the moment Alvira an points accusatory finger towards Elise.
A call to a dangerous door she just opened. And one she would regret, as she just let the sleeping beast out.
