Chapter 25
Chapter Twenty–Five: Everything About Him
After what could be about an hour after Evans arrived, there was a knock on the door.
“Who is it?” I asked.
“It’s your bestie!” Angel’s voice resounded through the door.
“Oh! Angela, come in.” I ordered quickly; Angela had never appeared at my office unannounced, and I was a bit surprised because somehow I wasn’t ready to introduce her to Evans. I was still a bit unsure
about the whole thing.
Angela walked in with the sound of her heels on the wooden floor.
“Hey, girl…” She stopped talking after seeing Evans.
“Hey, Angela, it’s so good to see you. I guess I should formally introduce you guys.”
I turned to Evans.
“Evans, this is my best friend and confidant, Angela; we have been through a lot together, and Angela is Evans, my fiancée, which I have always told you about.” I gesticulated while watching the duo.
“Nice to meet you, Evans; I have heard so much about you.” Angela spoke first as she extended her hand towards him. He held her hand for a while and smiled back before releasing it back to her.
“It’s good to see you too; I’m surprised you’ve never said anything about your beautiful friend here.”
“My father used to say, Never show your best friend the man you want to be with.” I joked.
“You look familiar looking at you up close; I think I have seen you somewhere.” Angela asked after she had spent the last minute starting at Evans.
“I guess not, but I have been in this town for a while, and I work at a hospital. Maybe you have seen me there once or twice.” He said that and turned toward me.
“Should L…”
… You look really familiar; did you grow up in a blue town?” Angela asked again with a worrisome
look.
“No, I didn’t.” He replied calmly.
“Well, you clearly look like someone I have seen before.”
“Maybe it’s from the screens.
“That’s not it.”
Η
“Regina, you didn’t tell me your friend is such a character and a very good detective.
“Well, I’m just getting to know myself. Angela, come on, give the man a break.

“Are you sure you are not lying?”
“I said I do not know you and clearly have not seen you before!” He yelled. That was the first time I had seen him in such a mood. Angela had clearly overstretched him, and I did not find it
“Angela, that’s enough.” I turned towards Evans and continued, “I’m so sorry about that. I think she mistook you for someone else; it happens all the time.” I tried to force a sm
“Yeah, I get that a lot. I think I need to go now. Nice meeting you, Angela. I’ll call you later, dear.” He said that and headed to leave.
“Okay, I’ll be waiting for your call.” She said,
“What was that all about?” I asked as soon as he left.
“What was that all about?”
“The drama you just pulled now?”
“I will never forget Regina; I have never been wrong about a face before.”
“What do you mean?”
“Could it be him? I hope not.”
“Could it be who? Which person do you think he is?”
“You know what? Never mind, it can’t possibly be him.”
“Yeah, it can’t.”
Half asleep, I still heard the doorbell ring as I strolled towards it with sleep still clouding my sight.
“Asleep already? I brought us a bottle of wine and a late–night snack.” He said this as soon as I opened the door.
“Hey Evans, considering the fact that I worked overtime today, I am exhausted and overly sleepy at
the moment.”
“I’m sorry, maybe we can take the wine and snack tomorrow; you need your rest.”
“No, I don’t want to ruin the night for you.”
“Hey, come here.” He put his arms around my waist as I led him upstairs towards the bedroom.
“We are still drinking that wine.”
“You are so stubborn.”
I retrieved two glasses, and he served us the wine. Both settled in the opposite direction of the couch in my bedroom. Just then, the phone rang again.

“Who could be that by this time of the night?”
“It’s just 9.00, but you need to decline the call, you should rest.”
“It’s just o? It feels like I have been sleeping for hours. Don’t worry, I will take the call; it could be important.” I watched the screen of the phone in uncertainty.
“Who is that?”
“I don’t know if it’s a private number.”
“Okay, pick it up then.”
I did as he had said, and soon we were connected. It was a male’s voice speaking discreetly. The tech guy Jane had hired.
“It’s the tech guy,” I whispered to Evans as he watched me.
He nodded as he heard me and began taking his drink again. After a while, I was done with the call.
“It was the tech guy Jane had hired.”
“Oh, any good news?”
“Not really, but there is progress. He could trace the server of the number that sent the text. He found
link between the text and the video; I think it’s the same person who leaked the video.”
“That’s progress; at least we are looking out for just one person.”
“But one thing he said that I still don’t get.”
“What’s that?”
“He traced the server to a town far away from here.”
“How far?”
As far as another country.”
“Hmmm. This is strange. Why would someone far away want to hurt you?”
“I keep asking myself that. I have never really left this town. I don’t know; it’s all so confusing.”
Don’t overwork yourself with that stress.”
“But I can’t help it; I keep getting worried anytime I hear about this. I just want to know who is doing this and get it over with.”
“I think you need to get more security, considering your present status.”
“Yeah, I’d think about that. Now, my body aches so bad.”
I slouched to the bed, nearly naked, with just a silk–made robe just below her back. The wind had become cooler now as it nudged the inner chiffon curtains. I always preferred the natural breeze.

“Let me be your masseuse for tonight, just as I have promised.” He whispered softly in my ears, and my breathing suddenly slowed down.
It’s like the rims of the curtains now moved in a sudden movement; every part of the room was calm, with just his soft voice resonating in my ears. The air was cooler, rushing into my nostrils like the crispness of the first snowflakes during the winter season.
My heart beat slowed, and he rolled off the remaining part of the silk robe that was over me as he
moved above me.
I did not move a bit; I didn’t want to spoll whatever plans he had for me. I kept my eyes fixed on the shifting curtains, and then, like the warmest thing ever, he clasped my aching shoulders into his soft hands. His warm breath raises goose bumps on my neck.
“What are you doing?” I managed to ask in between my nearly silent moans.
