The car was very quiet, and because Nora was anxious, her voice was quite loud. Aveline could dearly hear the name "Jamie" in her conversation.
She remembered the day she received the pregnancy test report when she rushed into Alexander's arms with hope. "Alexander, you're going to be a father! We're going to have a baby! I've already thought of: name. If it's a girl, we'll name her Jenna, and if it's a boy, Jamie. What do you think?
She had hoped she had misheard, but Alexander didn't dodge her gaze and replied Muntly, "His name it Jamie."
"You bastard!" Aveline raised her hand and slapped him. This time, he didn't avoid it, taking her slap head-on.
"You let her name her child after our child!" she exclaimed.
Their child was the last defense for Aveline, and her tears shattered like pearls. She pounced on him, like a madwoman, "You demon, why did God take away our baby's life? Why isn't it you who died?"
A distraught Aveline struck him repeatedly, "He doesn't deserve that name!"
Alexander held her hands and instructed Lucas, "Go to the Noble Springs Residence."
Aveline grew even more emotional, "We're almost at the Civil Affairs Bureau. If you're going to leave, it must be after we're divorced."
"The child's fever won't go down, and I need to go there immediately." Alexander replied.
"Shouldn't my father, who is lying unconscious in the hospital, be considered important? The nurse is harassing me with debt collectors, and I can't even go to the hospital. Is your child's life more valuable, while my father's life doesn't matter?" Aveline raged.
At the mention of Anthony, Alexander's face turned icy. "Is Anthony even worth mentioning in the same breath as Jamie?"
Enraged, Aveline attempted to slap him again, but her hands were restrained. Alexander thundered, "Haven't you caused enough trouble?"
Aveline watched as the car made a turn, and they were about to reach the Civil Affairs Bureau. In an attempt to prevent her from resisting again, Alexander Imprisoned her within his embrace. The once Chapter 19
comforting embrace had become a prison.
His grip was strong, and she couldn't break free. She could only ask helplessly, "Do you love Nora that much?"
Alexander appeared to lose himself for a moment, and it was only then that he noticed how much she had changed. She was even thinner than a year ago, and her body felt hony. The fragile flower he used to hold in his hands had withered. Was this really what he wanted?
As he was starting to question his thoughts, he saw an image of the lifeless female corpse in his mind. The hand around Aveline's waist tightened.
When he looked up again, the tenderness in his eyes was gone, replaced by an endless coldness. "Aveline, do you want to make a scene again?"
Aveline clenched his shirt with both hands, her tears wetting his shirt.
Despite promising not to make her cry, every tear she shed was caused by him.
The atmosphere in the car was suffocatingly silent. Aveline calmed down and pushed his body away. sitting up straight.
Aveline took a deep breath, cleared her throat, and spoke, "You're free to go see your son, but don't let your affairs disrupt our original plans. Don't worry, I won't cling to you again. Even if you don't want to divorce me, the divorce is finalized. I'm not in the habit of picking up trash."
"If I don't give it to you?" Alexander asked.
Aveline met his dark eyes. Her eyes, just cried red, shone brightly like the mountains after rain, exuding a clear coldness. "Then I'll jump out of the car right now. You might not be able to save my father, but I don't need to stay alive."
Alexander wrote a number on a check and handed it to her. "The remaining five million will be paid after the divorce."
Aveline smirked, "Are you really that afraid I won't divorce you? Don't worry, a man like you disgusts me so much that every second I spend near you is sickening. Stop the car."
She took the check and slammed the car door, leaving without looking back

address given to her by Jordan.
It was a private high-end cemetery where only the rich and powerful were buried. Even Mrs. Sterling. the
old lady, was buried here. Aveline bought Mrs. Sterling's favorite white lilies.
It didn't take long for Aveline to find a new grave surrounded by a circle of plum trees.
The plum trees had already grown buds and were about to blossom.
The cold gravestone bore an unfamiliar name, "Grave of Layla Sterling."
Aveline knew that Alexander cherished his younger sister. She had gone missing and became a forbidden
topic for him, never to be mentioned again. So, she knew nothing about her.
Layla, was that her name? Aveline had never heard of it.
She crouched down and looked at the photo on the gravestone, a picture of Layla when she was five or years old, with a chubby face and a hint of Alexander's shadow in her features.

Aveline still had no clues. She took a photo with her phone as the only lead.
She left the white lilies she bought for the old lady and knelt in front of Layla's grave, speaking softly, "Layla, I'm Aveline. If you were still alive, you should call me 'sister-in-law' or maybe 'former sister-in- law. I'm sorry, I'm meeting you under these circumstances. I will find out who killed you..."
The old lady's tomb was nearby, and her photo on the gravestone displayed a gentle and loving expression, still preserving her appearance from her younger days.
Aveline felt tired after standing for a while, so she sat next to the grave, as if reminiscing with the old lady as if she were still alive.
"Grandma, I'm sorry, but I couldn't protect our child. However, that shameless Alexander has ensured the Sterling family's lineage continues, so you don't need to worry about the family line."
"Grandma, he has changed, no longer the person I used to know. In the past, he said he would protect me from the wind and rain, but now, all my troubles are brought by him. If you were still alive, I'm sure you wouldn't let him treat this way."
Aveline forced a smile, "Grandma, I'm about to get a divorce from Alexander. You once said that if he dared to mistreat me, even if you were dead, you'd crawl out of your coffin to beat him up. I won't live much longer. In a few days, I'll come down to accompany you, and we can crawl out together to beat him up, okay?"

"Grandma, what does it feel like to die? Is it dark? I'm afraid some little bugs will bite me. What should I do?"
"Grandma, should I burn more paper money for you to keep for me? After I come down, can you buy me a big 800-square-meter villa with it?"
"Grandma. I miss you...."
