Chapter 12 Chapter

In the pitch-black night, she returned to the bathroom alone.
The steaming hot water dispelled her coldness as she gently rubbed her swollen eyes and and cozy nursery, where she pushed open the door..
La warm
She lightly touched the mobile, and the gentle music of the music box filled the room. The room was bathed in a warm yellow light, a scene of extreme coziness, yet Aveline's tears flowed uncontrollably. Perhaps this was her retribution, for not protecting her child, so heaven had to take
away her life.
Aveline climbed into a 1.2-meter-long crib, curling herself up like a shrimp. Tears from her left eye flowed to her right, then slid down her cheeks, moistening the baby blanket beneath her.
She held a stuffed toy tightly and murmured, "I'm sorry, baby. It's all mommy's fault. Mommy didn't protect you. Don't be afraid. Mommy will come to be with you soon."
Since her child's death, her mental state had not been good, like a once beautiful flower gradually withering.
-She looked at the inescapable darkness and thought that if she left the money for her father, she could go.
find her precious baby.
The next morning, before dawn, Aveline was already dressed, looking at her smiling face in the wedding certificate.
In the blink of an eye, it had been three years.
She had prepared a stomach-friendly breakfast, even though she wouldn't live for much longer, she wanted to have more time to take care of her father.
Aveline was about to leave when she received a call from the hospital. "Miss Blackwood, Mr. Blackwood suddenly had a heart attack and has been taken to the emergency room."
"I'm coming right away!"
Aveline rushed to the hospital. The surgery had not yet finished. She waited outside the operating room, palms together in prayer. She had lost everything, and her only hope was for her father to recover.
A nurse handed her a stack of bills. "Miss Blackwood, this is for the emergency treatment and surgery for Chapter 12
Mr. Blackwood, which just happened suddenly.
Aveline glanced at the detailed expenses, which were surprisingly over ten thousand dollars,
Her father's daily medical expenses was five thousand a month, and she could barely cover them by working three jobs. She had just paid this month's hospital bill, and there was only five thousand dollars left in her account. It was far from enough for the surgery.
Aveline had no choice but to call Alexander. His voice sounded cold. "Where are you? I've been waiting for you for half an hour."
"I have an urgent matter here."
"Aveline, are you playing a game?"
"I'm not lying. In the past, I was unwilling to accept it, I thought you were treating me this way because you had your reasons. But now I see clearly that this marriage no longer has any meaning. I willingly want a divorce. I couldn't come because my dad had a heart attack and needs surgery..."
"Is he dead?"
"No, he's currently undergoing treatment. But the surgery costs over ten thousand dollars. Can you give me the ten million dollars? I promise to divorce you after I get the certificate."
The answer she received was his mocking laughter. "Aveline, you better understand one thing. I hope more than anyone that your dad dies. I can give you the money, but only after you get the divorce. certificate."

The call went to voicemail, and Aveline was left in disbelief. How could he wish for her father's death? Why?
Thinking back to the bankruptcy of the Blackwood family two years ago, everything seemed to fall into place.
Was it not just too coincidental?
Perhaps the Blackwood family's bankruptcy was caused by him, but what had the Blackwood family done to him?
Aveline had no time to think further. Her immediate concern was to gather the funds for her father's surgery.
The surgery room door opened, and Aveline rushed forward. "Dr. Hartford, how's my dad?"
Chapter 12
"Don't worry.
Miss Blackwood. Mr. Blackwood is tough and made it through. However, he's very emotionally fragile. Don't let him go through any more stress for now."
"Understood." Aveline breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Dr. Hartford."
Anthony was still unconscious. Aveline inquired with the nurse, "My father seemed to be in good spirits recently. He even mentioned that he wanted to eat red velvet cake. How did he suddenly have a heart attack?"
The nurse responded, "Mr. Blackwood had been in high spirits lately. He even mentioned that he wanted
to eat red velvet cake, but I thought it would only take ten to fifteen minutes to go to Saffron Restaurant and buy some for Mr. Blackwood. When I returned, he was already in the emergency room. Miss Blackwood, it's my fault!"
"Did anyone visit my father before you left?"
"No, there was no one before I left. Mr. Blackwood was perfectly fine. Who would have thought that such a thing would happen suddenly.
Aveline felt that something was off about this, but for now, she needed to gather the money to cover the medical expenses. She instructed the nurse to take good care of Anthony and rushed to the nurse's station to check the visitor records.
"Miss Blackwood, there were no visitors for Mr. Blackwood this morning." the nurse told her. "Thank you."
"By the way, Miss Blackwood, has Mr. Blackwood's bill been settled?"
Aveline reluctantly said, "I will pay it right away. I'm sorry.
She left the nurse's station, called a Uber, and headed to the Civil Affairs Bureau. Where was Alexander? Aveline dialed Alexander's number in a hurry. "I've already arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau. Where are you?"
"At the company."
"Alexander, can you come to the Civil Affairs Bureau now to complete the divorce procedures?"
Alexander coldly laughed, "Do you think the multi-billion contract I'm about to negotiate is less important than you?"
Chapter 12
"I can wait for you to finish the contract. Alexander, I'm begging you, my dad needs money urgently."
"If he dies, I'll cover the funeral expenses."
He hung up after saying that, and when she tri
to call again, his phone was switched off.
The rain was falling like a dense web, trapping Aveline, who couldn't breathe.
She squatted under a bus stop, watching the bustling street. Aveline regretted her choices.
With her abilities and education, she would have had a bright future.
Who could have predicted that the Blackwood family would go bankrupt and that the man who had cherished her, Alexander, would change so suddenly?
She had lost everything overnight.
A year ago, Alexander had taken away all her jewelry and designer bags. The only valuable items she had left were their wedding rings. She removed the rings resolutely and walked into a high-end jewelry store.
The salesperson examined her soaked, second-rate appearance. "Miss, do you have the invoice and purchase certificate?"
"Yes." Aveline pretended not to notice the salesperson's scrutiny and nervously handed over the documents.
"Alright, Miss. We need to send the ring for appraisal. Can we inform you tomorrow?"
Aveline licked her dry lips and said urgently, "I need the money urgently. Can you expedite the process?" "Well, I'll try my best. Please wait for a moment..."
Before the salesperson could take the ring, a fair and delicate hand pressed down on the lid. "This ring is beautiful: I'll take it.'
Aveline raised her head and met the face she loathed - Nora!
