Recrudescence

Chapter 10

With a small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, Alpha Omar went to check on his mother: Luna Blenda.

She most probably wouldn't acknowledge his presence, but he was hoping the news of finding his mate would wake her from her daydreaming, even for a minute.

He really missed the old version of her—The strong warrior she once was.

Blenda was always meant to be a warrior. She came from a long line of high ranking solders. She was named after the legendary Swedish heroine—who led the rural women of Värend in an attack to annihilate the Danish invaders. She was trained from a very young age, and proved herself to be worthy.

She was the unbeatable ‘Head Wolf' prize's winner for five times in a row.

The 'Head Wolf Prize' was every worrior's ultimate dream.

The competition was held by the king's army itself every two years in a secluded palace you can only reach in wolf form.

The winner would be labelled 'The Head Wolf Warrior', and would secure a place at the king's war table.

Thus, Blenda was a war adviser for the king for almost 10 years. Until the death of her mate crumbled her and made her this woman who spent more time inside her head than in the real world.

It was a huge loss for the pack, and a heart-breaking thing to witness for a son.

After knocking, alpha Omar waited for the nurse to open the door. The room was an exact replica of the former alpha's master bedroom which was mostly destroyed by the bomb.

Anything that was saved was put back in its exact place, in this room.

The frail woman, sitting on her rocking chair, looked nothing like the person she once was.

Her blank gaze looked at nothing in particular. She had a purring cat on her lap. If the fact that a werewolf took a cat as a pet was not weird enough, the cat had no problem living with wolves.

Alpha Omar sat on the couch, near his mother, and spoke in a soft voice, “Guten abend mutter." Silence met his words.

"Wie gehts?“ He continued, not expecting to receive an answer.

He took her hand between his, and squeezed gently, trying to get her attention but to no avail.

"Ich habe meine Seelengefährtin gefunden.“ (I've found my soulmate)

The only sign indicated she heard him was a small twitch of her hand, and the brief moment their eyes met. But that was all it needed to encourage him to keep talking.

Although, he only knew few things about his mate. He wanted to share it all with his mother... Well, except the fact that she was a human. He didn't know how she would react to that news.

After half an hour of trying to get any reaction out of her, he gave up.

The only positive outcome was the barely visible smile she has on her lips that wasn’t there earlier.

Omar rose from his seat, and kissed her forehead whispering a small “Ich liebe dich” then went to the door.

Midway, he heard her say, “Du solltest ihr das Armband geben.” ( you should give her the bracelet).

He stopped in his tracks. Then turned towards her with the brightest smile on his face.“Ich werde es tun,” (I will do it) he said happily, and left the room.

It was a bracelet she gave him when he shifted for the first time. For when he found his mate. A thoughtful gift to show her that she was welcomed in the family. It was years ago, but he kept it safe for her.

On his way to his study, he mind linked his beta to join him. They still have work to do before dinner.

Alpha Omar, was almost done with his phone call when beta Ajamu entered the room.

Ajamu was a black man of an average height but very bulky, with a military buzz cut. He was not the kind of person you want to come across.

Also Ajamu was the mate of alpha Omar sister, Dahlia. The ballerina-like, sweet girl. She was slightly taller than her mate, and skinny like a stick. “Healthy skinny” she insisted, whenever her mate argued that she was not eating enough.

The two made an interesting couple.

Ajamu a man of few words, and Dahlia could spew more words, in one breath, than what her mate spoke in a whole year.

“Alpha.” Ajamu greeted.

With his pen, Omar tapped the stack of papers on his desk, and mouthed “signed”; while listening to the phone.

“Yes, that would be all. Thank you.”

He hang up, and turned to Ajamu.

“I am not satisfied with the training reporting system. Most of the time, the reports are delivered late, and don't reflect the reality. I can't have a good idea about the progress they are making or the difficulties they might face.”

Ajamu grunted as a response, and took a seat next to the desk.

Alpha Omar continued, “call for a meeting with the team, tomorrow morning.”

“Ok.”

“Also I need someone, a tracker preferably, to be sent on a mission outside the territory. I want them to keep an eye on someone, for few days.”

“I'll give you a list, by tomorrow, to chose from.”

“No. tonight. Just one name. Someone you can trust with your life.”

“Is everything alright?” Ajamu asked, picking at the grim look on his alpha's face.

“I'm sending Sonia back, to her house.” Omar said with a sigh.

Ajamu hesitated at that. It is not normal for a wolf to stay away from his mate. Omar did it once, and it almost caused his wolf to go berserk.

He could only think of one reason why he would send her away.

“Did she reject you?”

“No,” Omar growled. “She's just not ready, yet. She's not cooperating at all. Maybe a small step back can help us gain her trust. But before she leaves, I want her to have dinner with the pack, tonight.”

“I think that is too soon and a little risky regarding the history we have with humans.”

“It should be done. She is my mate, the rightful luna. I need the pack to be on my side in this.”
