Chapter 65: The Fragile Line
"I did it! I finally did it!" I smiled.
Now that the adrenalin finally washed out of my system, tiredness came crashing on me and I suddenly felt lightheaded and I found my self floating before my head hit the concrete making a loud crack noise. "Lyra!" I heard somebody shout my name but I was too far gone. I felt we were in different worlds as patterns swarmed across my vision and the light slowly started to dim and everything went blank. KYLE'S POV
"Lyra!" I screamed as I ran to her. we all just watched Lyra do something that we all thought was impossible.
Her body started to convulse as I carried her quickly and took her inside. "Call the doctor!" I screamed as fear griped me.
Everyone was shocked by the turn of events and they didn't know how to handle what just happened. Aria stood there, her jaw almost hitting the floor.
We were all scared for Lyra because we heard what the colossal god said because we all know how had it must have been for her to be able to send him to the underworld. The queen mother herself could not do it.
I was so proud of her yet I was so angry because she was left to do something so risky by herself. she could have easily gotten crushed by the amount of energy that passed through her. she used her full amount of strength. Her brain could have suffered irreversible effects and that is something I wouldn't wish to happen to anyone.
The doctor came out of the theater and looked at us with pity in her eyes.
"Who is her relative?" the doctor asked as I was about to stand up when Aria came forward stating she was Lyra's guardian.
"Okay, I will need you to sign a form as the patient need a minor brain surgery. She cracked her brain from the fall and all her bones a fractured from the amount of energy her body has to release," the doctor explained to Aria who gasped and began to cry.
"After everything will she be fine?" I asked the doctor and honestly I was scared to hear the answer and my heartbeat picked up as I waited to hear the response from the doctor.
"She will be fine if this surgery goes will, if there is any minor complication she could become brain dead and if the surgery is not performed, her brain could begin to swell until she dies. It is a fifty-fifty chance." The doctor explained to me. I felt my heart break as I heard what the doctor has to say. I felt a kind of pain I have never felt before growing in my heart and the pain almost made me pass out.
Aria signed for the surgery to begin and it took ten hours. We all waited praying and hoping the surgery will go well. After the long awaited hours the doctor came out from the operating room with a gloomy face that made me scared. "How did it go?" I asked still trying to be hopeful.
"The surgery itself went well but the patient's body could not take it and she slipped into coma. We just need to get her through the night. If her heart rate can stabilize then all will be fine," the doctor assured us. "Can we visit her now?" I asked.
"No, she is still in the emergency room. You will be able to visit her by tomorrow when we move her to a normal ward," the doctor said to me and I nodded. "Fuck." I said feeling at loss.
I stood up and decided to go for a walk because sitting her an and feeling bad or blaming myself for the situation will not change anything. If anything, Lyra is very strong and I know she will make it out alive.
I walked outside the hospital not necessarily thinking anything but trying to clear my head from any form of thoughts when I saw her. "Kiera, what are you doing here?" I asked in a hushed voice and looked behind me to see if anyone had followed me outside.
"He sent me her. he heard about the war and he sent me here to talk to you. He wants to know if the girl is still alive. He said you should do anything in your power to make sure the girl comes out of it alive," Kiera said to me and I suddenly felt sick in my stomach.
Something is not right. For the longest time he had wanted her dead, what caused his sudden change of mind. Whatever must have caused it isn't good that I am sure of because there is no way he will change his mind like that unless he has developed a new plan that I don't know about. Shit!
I stayed in the hospital for two weeks hoping she will wake up but she didn't. she was still in coma an she hadn't shown any signs of waking up. Aria came everyday to massage her body with oils and to bath her so she doesn't look so pale. "We have discovered she has been having lucid dreams and most of the times, with so many cases we have had when the patient is in this kind of situation with frequent lucid dreams, they end up dying," the doctor said to me. "No one is dying," I said in a hoarse voice I could not recognize as mine. Believe it or not I have been crying and I really wish she will be okay.
I still have to find out what my father is up to be cause, he said I should make sure she didn't die and if anything that made me extremely worried. What caused him to have new found interest in her? I asked myself for the longest time not being able to understand his line of thought.
