REBORN UNDER THE FULL MOON

Chapter 12: Bonds Strengthened

"Wow, you're here before me. That's a surprise." I said as I walked into the bayou and found Lyla waiting for me.

"Don't be surprised. I just didn't want to give you any reason to talk bad about me." she stated.

"Indeed. Or you just missed me alot that you couldn't help staying away for so long." I teased. "You wish." Aria scoffed.

She was different from the last time we saw each other. She was a little bit herself. Like the girl I met in the forest. "Where's Aria?" I asked. It was very unlikey that she wasn't here.

"She won't be coming." she answered me.

Aria not coming? That was very strange. She made it pretty clear that she didn't trust me, yet she left me alone with Lyla.

"She isn't coming? What happened to her not trusting me?" I questioned her.

"She said she had other important things to attend to. Something about healing people. Strange right?" She asked.

"Strange indeed." I said wondering what had become so important. "Let's keep that being us. I said we were going to be having a strength training today, right. "

The strength training was supposed to be held yesterday but I noticed she was rusted from running, so I thought she needed a day for rest.

Not that I care, it won't do me any good if she comes to practice all tired.

"Yeah. " she answered.

"Follow me. "I told her and began to walk. She followed me to a spot where a large fallen tree laid on the ground. The tree's back was rough and splintered. This would be a good form of strength training. "Over here. " I said as I pointed at the wood.

Lyla stared at the wood. "We are going to be lifting this." I explained. "One end at a time. This would play a role in building your core strength and building your body. Watch me first."

I bent at my knees, grasp the log of wood, and lifted one end off the ground. "Like this." I told Lyla.

I held it for a moment before gently lowering it back down. I stepped back gesturing Lyla to give it a try. "It's your turn. Go on."

I said as I moved away from the log.

I observed how she took the stance as I did. She gripped the log. I heard her heave a heavy sigh. Her hands trembled under the log while her veins began to appear.

The log shifted. "Yes, that's it. Keep going." S3 lifted the log a few inch before it fell back down.

"Good effort." I encouraged.

"But you need to use your core strength more. Imagine the strength coming from your center, not just your hands."

Lyla nodded. The same determination she had in the last training showed. I could see it.

She adjusted her position, took a deep, long breath and tried again. She lifted the log again but this time it lasted longer and it lifted higher.

She managed to hold it for a moment before it dropped again.

"There you go." I said feeling proud. "That's the spirit. We'll do it five more times. " I said.

We continued the session. I offered her tips on her position. Her stance wasn't really good.

"Your back should be straight like this or you might end up getting a back pain. "I said as I tried to straighten her back

When I placed my hands on her back, she immediately dropped the log.

I could see she wasn't comfortable. "I'm sorry." I apologized.

She didn't respond. Instead she went back to lifting the log. I couldn't just figure her out.

Sometimes she was nice, other times she was snobby.

She practiced four more times in which her lifting was good.

The tension between us collapsed as I coached her.

She lifted it for the fifth time, then collapsed on the ground, her chest heaving heavily. "I didn't for once... It would be this tough." she panted. "What did you think? Training was easy? "I chuckled. "Training is never easy."

I said as I sat close to where she laid.

"But do you want to know what is good about training? The reward. You are getting stronger. I can see it.

"

Lyla sat up, looked up and met my gaze." But not good enough to beat a hybrid, not even a werewolf. I am no where near ready." She said softly.

"Werewolves believe that strength isn't about muscles. It's about willpower, determination and heart. I have not know you long but I can say you have all of that.

It's just the physical strength that takes time and effort."

Okay, I didn't hear any werewolf say that. It just what I told myself and what I believed. She seemed like she needed the talk. It's not like the hunters were going to encourage her to get strong. There was silence between us for a while. "Why do you believe in me?" she finally broke the silence.

"What do you mean?"

I knew exactly what she meant but I wanted her to ask again.

"Why do you try so hard to encourage me? I know you will never admit it but your want me to be strong for a reason."

She was smart along with being pretty.

"There's no reason. I train you remember, I have to encourage you." it wasn't exactly a lie, it wasn't just the full truth. "Okay. Why are you training me?"

She was really ready today. She wasn't quiet anymore.

"Is that really a question? You asked me to train you. Have you forgotten when you were casing me around to train you?"

"I never chased you." she said.

"Mhm.. mm" She knew she was lying.

"Okay, fine. I chased you. But that was because I wasn't in my right mind."

"Indeed." I teased.

"Seriously, just tell me." she pleaded. I could see the curiousity in her eyes. "Fine." I finally gave in.

"The reason is because you reminded me of my self alot." I finally said.

"What does you mean?" she interrupted.

"Hello? I'm still talking. "I stated.

"Sorry." she said then she smiled.

"When I was younger, I didn't know my mom. All I knew was that she died but never knew her. What I did know was that my dad never liked what she was, a hybrid. Just like me.

So when she died, it was just me and him. But he never once treated me like a son. I guess he was ashamed of what I was too. Other werewolves kids of my age then were trained by their father but my dad wanted nothing to do with me."
