Chapter 8: "Don't you have a girlfriend"
“I have a question to ask you,” I told Mr. Hall.
It was last period and Mr. Hall was now teaching me to fight. He’s having me working on a punching bag today. The conversation I had with Bambi today at lunch came to my mind. The question that I ask her keeps bothering me so….
“What’s it?” he asks.
I pull up looking over to him “Why are we training here to go out and kill rogue vampires.” I ask him.
“Cause were the only one that can defeat them.” he told me handing me a water bottle.
“Yeah, but don’t they become rogue for a reason. I know most of them might turn dangerous, but what about the others?”
“We don’t go after the others. We go after the dangerous ones to our society. The ones that could expose us to the humans.”
“The humans? Why are yall saying that were part-humans!”
“Exactly, If they find out about us they want to start experimenting on us. That’s what we’re trying to avoid.”
“Ok, now I’m getting it. Why do vampires go rogue and go on a killer spree?”
“Hurt, Depression, Lost the same reasons humans decide to kill themselves or hurt other people.”
“Oh, so how does it work when we graduate?” I ask him going back to punching the bag.
“Well, the system is like the FBI. You’ll get sent to a state and go out when they give you an assignment.”
“That’s different from the vampire books I read. Even though I thought vampire were just characters that I read.” I told him with a smile.
“Those books never live up to what vampire life really like.” He said with a roll of his eyes.
I was walking in the courtyard on my way to my room. I want to change into some comfortable clothes before taking a walk around the campus. I haven’t got the chance to since I been here. I usually fall right to sleep after my lessons with Mr. Hall.
“Hey, Bookworm!” A voice called out.
I turn to see Daniel coming up behind me. He now wore basketball shorts and a t-shirt. He must have just got out of training too. I stop and waited for him to catch up. I don’t know why but I did.
“Bookworm? That’s what you’re calling me?” I ask him.
“Yeah, plus I couldn’t remember your name.” He said bluntly giving me a smile.
“Figures. What you want boy?” We start walking towards the dorms.
“Nothing. I just spotted you walking alone.”
“Being alone doesn’t bother me all that much.
“Me neither.”
We went silent after that. A comfortable silence really. I don’t know what I think about Daniel, but right now he’s not on my bad side.
“Where you headed to?” He asks me.
“My room,” I told him pointing up at the buildings.
“Oh, let me come?” Following closely behind me.
“First off back up off me. Second don’t you have a girlfriend?”
“Not after I make this phone call.” He said pulling out his phone from his pocket.
“Stop playing, you know that’s not the only reason,” I told him swapping his phone.
“What are the other reasons?” He asks taking a step towards me.
“Nothing that you need to know. So bye!” I hand him his phone before walking away.
