Chapter 76
“Sir, I have some good news. ”
Mooney looked up from his desk with a tired expression. Anderson was standing there holding a file in from of him like a kid handing in a homework assignment, grinning from ear to ear.
“I could use some, what is it? Did you find the kid?” He took the file but didn’t look
at it.
“No Sir. He seems to have vanished, Sir.”
“How could he just vanish? Surely someone is close to him. He’s getting more and more popular that son of a bitch. Unbelievable.”
“We think he’s left the area, or changed identity, Sir.”
“What is it then?” Mooney said irritably. He looked as if he couldn’t possibly enjoy any other good news as he went back to the papers on his desk.
“We have someone who can visually identify Robert Morgan.”
“Really? Who? How is that…? Actually I don’t care right now, just send him over there. The town is under control?”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Just have your asset look at everyone in Veneta to find our boy. If he’s not there, have him follow Millikan around until they find him. He can’t be far. ” Mooney stretched, put his hands behind his head and looked a little more relieved. He turned and looked out the window.
“What do we do when we find Morgan sir?”
“He faces a court of his peers and he loses and he gets executed for treason of
course.”
“Yes sir.” And Anderson left the office. But before he could close the door, Mooney stopped him.
“Hey Ian, did you see how the people unloading the helicopters? Did you see how they smiled at me there when they saw me? They really like me the people.”
“Yes, Sir.” Ian closed the door. Softly.
