Chapter 27
Chapter 27 Vera Was Preparing Supper For Eric
Eric woke up and found himself drenched in sweat, his heart still heavy with the pain of losing Eileen. The emotions from his
dream felt overwhelming-sadness, depression, and heartbreak engulfed him, leaving him breathless. He could not believe that a
mere dream could evoke such intense feelings, especially with the unexpected twist of Eileen’s death and his own heartbroken
demise alongside hers. It all seemed too absurd to be real.
“Eric, you’re awake!” Vera’s gentle voice brought him back to reality.
Glancing at the clock on the wall, Eric realized it was already afternoon and it was getting dark outside. How long did he sleep?
Noticing the redness in Vera’s eyes, as if she had been crying.
“Vera, aren’t you at school?”
Vera replied with a sad tine, “Eric, did you forget? You said you were gonna pick me up after school every Friday. I’ve waited for
you for quite some time and you didn’t show up. So. I called Gavin and he said you were sick and I rushed here.”
“I’m sorry, I forgot!” Eric apologized, his mind still in disarray from the vivid dream he had just experienced.
“Eric, are you feeling any better? Do you want some water?” Vera asked with concern.
“No,” Eric replied quietly.
“Okay,” Vera replied softly, noticing Eric’s discomfort. She held his hand tightly and remained quietly by his side.
Just then, a knock came at the door. Eric opened his eyes and directed his gaze towards the door, granting permission to enter.
“Mr. Eric, it’s time to eat. Are you feeling better?” Sharon entered the room.
Eric’s heart sank for some reason. “I’m feeling better. Where is Eileen?” he inquired.
Sharon responded, “Eileen is eating downstairs! Would you like me to call her for you, Mr. Eric?”
Eileen? Why did I mention Eileen? Was I still fixated on her?
Feeling weary, Eric covered his eyes with his hands and said, “It’s alright, Vera, you can go and have your meal too.”

“I’ll keep you company after dinner,” Vera assured him.
“Sure,” Eric acknowledged.
After dinner, Vera planned to stay home for the weekend to take care of Eric. If need be, she would take him to the hospital.
So I had not seen much of Eric, happy with that!
Happy and relaxed, Eileen sat on the sofa, watching variety shows.
By eight o’clock in the evening, Will returned home.
As Vera expected, Will was told about Eric’s sickness and immediately went to check on him. Sharon had almost been fired, and
the room was in a mess with the bed sheets scattered everywhere. Eric had spent the night sleeping on an uncovered bed.
Vera felt small and insignificant in this family, so she kept silent, not daring to speak up.
Meanwhile, Eileen pleaded with Sharon, who was kneeling on the ground, “Dad, Eric falling. sick has nothing to do with Sharon:
It’s all my fault. Please don’t blame her anymore.”
In Will’s eyes, no one in the family could compare to Eric. Even though Eric was merely sick, Sharon had to suffer severe
consequences, which felt extremely unfair to her.
“Don’t blame me for firing you if this happens again!” Will exclaimed angrily.
Sharon replied, “Yes, Mr. Swan!”
Will angrily threw his cane away and stormed upstairs to his room.
Eileen brought Sharon back to her room and tended to her wounds. Eileen could not help. but imagine how much pain Sharon
must have endured. After all, Sharon had been a loyal. servant to the family for many years.
“Don’t cry, silly girl. I’m fine,” Sharon comforted Eileen.
“But he hit you! Will is a scum. How could he do such a thing?”
“Enough!” Sharon’s eyes turned cold suddenly. “Eileen, he’s your father. Don’t be disrespectful.”
Eileen did not say anything else. “I understand, Sharon. I won’t mention it next time.”
Later, when Eileen returned to her room, she noticed a car parked at the gate. A woman in a

red, sexy dress was seated in the passenger seat. Although Eileen could only see the outline of her profile, she was Elsie.
Elsie was doing her makeup in the mirror...
After some time, Will said something to Eric and left. Elsie’s presence seemed to have. puzzled Will, and he had not returned
home either.
Eileen quickly retreated behind the curtains upon seeing the car leave. She could not be sure if Elsie noticed her, but she knew
Eric was sharp and suspicious. If he suspected that Eileen. knew about Elsie teaming up with him, Eric would not let her off
lightly. She might meet at terrible end without even realizing how she died.
Feeling anxious, Eileen bit her fingernails and paced around the room. If she wanted to be safe, she had to reassure Eric and
remove any doubts he might have. However, she could not reveal that she knew about his true intentions when he was adopted
into the Swan family.
If Eileen were to approach Eric directly and say, “Eric, I don’t care about what you’re trying to do to the Swan family or what you
plan to do to Will. I won’t stop you. If you want to take control of the Swan family, go ahead.”
Such words would not only be foolish but also lead to a faster demise. She had to be careful in dispelling Eric’s doubts and make
him believe that she posed no threat to his plans.
Eileen’s fear stemmed from her deep understanding of Eric’s methods. She knew about his unrelenting grudge against the Swan
family, and that made her afraid to interfere with his plans.
Deciding not to bother them for now, she resolved to wait until the next day to approach
Eric.
Aside from Sharon, there were other servants in the household, but they did not stay overnight. They would come in the morning
to clean the rooms and attend to their duties. During the night, if anyone got hungry, they had to prepare their own supper.
Due to Sharon’s injuries, Eileen had been cooking for herself lately.
Early in the evening, Eileen went to check on Sharon before returning downstairs.
As she descended the stairs, she noticed that the living room on the first floor was lit up. Assuming that Vera was preparing
supper for Eric, she didn’t think much of it. However, when she saw Vera appearing before her with disheveled hair, Eileen’s
drowsy eyes instantly. sharpened.
She quickly covered her mouth, realizing that her presence might be out of place.
Vera and Eric were sitting together at the dining table, having supper. Both of them turned

their gazes toward Eileen simultaneously. Feeling slightly embarrassed, Eileen managed at smile and explained, “I was just
thirsty, so I came down to get some water.”
Vera apologized, saying, “Eileen, we thought you were asleep, so we didn’t call There’s still some soup in the pot if you’d like to

down.
Eileen politely declined, “It’s fine, I don’t eat supper, and I’m worried about gaining weight. I’ll just drink some water and head to
bed.”
Deep down, she wished she could plead with Eric to forgive her for disturbing their private
moments.
