Chapter 4

I went to bed that night and quickly fell asleep and found myself in a dream. I was exhausted from all the work that I’d done that day. I’d helped so many people.

“Honey, wake up,” my mother’s voice said. “It’s time.”

“Time for what?” I asked.

“To wake up, silly. Now come on, wake up.”

I opened my eyes and stared at my mother. She’d been dead for years. This couldn’t be a good thing. She rarely came into my dreams unless it was really bad.

Not that my mother wasn’t a good person or very special, but she only showed up when she knew that I was going to need help.

“Mom?”

“Yes, dear. Dad is here, too.”

Then it had to be really, really bad. Dad never showed up.

“Dad?”

“Hi, honey,” he said. “How are you?”

“What’s going on? Dad, you never come into my dreams, at least, not since I was little. Mom, you only come when its bad news.”

“Its not bad news this well, its horrible news.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean your future wife is in danger and I don’t just mean from the impending fire.”

“What? What is it?”

“Honey, she’s pregnant.”

“How can I save her? Jackson told me to stay away from that hotel. How is she pregnant? How is she in danger?”

“I can’t say,” my mother replied.

“Mom, if you can’t say then why are you here?”

“Because…” my mother began.

The dream began to fade and I woke up. “What’s going on?” I asked, groggily.

“We need to go, now,” Helen said.

“Why?”

“That hotel is burning right now. We have to go save her.”

I was confused. “Save who?”

“Your future wife.”

I jumped out of bed and quickly dressed. I didn’t think it was going to happen so quickly. I hoped I would be able to do something.
