Chapter 17
“About ten years ago, Jackson and I tried being together,” I said. “It wasn’t good. He liked to be too controlling.”
“That’s true,” Jackson said. “I was. I had to know where she was at all times and I had to know what she was doing at all times.”
“You were friends first, right?” Kendra asked. “So you knew what the other was like while dating.”
“Yes we were, but just because you know what someone is like, doesn’t mean that’s what you really think they’re like. I’d talked to a ton of his dates and they all warned me of how he could be. I didn’t think he’d be that way with me, because we were friends.”
“What about her?” Jonathon asked.
“I never had any issues with her except that she never wants to learn more about what she can do. She’s a great girlfriend to have.”
I smiled.
“However…”
“We dated for two years and we got pregnant.”
“Hailey and I knew we were ready to be parents, so we placed our twins up for adoption.”
“That was about seven years ago. Two little girls named Anita and Merry.”
Jackson nodded. “There was to be a third little girl, we were going to name her Laurell, but she passed at birth.”
“Oh my god.”
“It was then that we knew we’d made the right decision.”
“Losing her while the other two had lived would have been hard on them.”
“And you as well.”
“We didn’t feel like our pain was more important than they were. Their eventual well being and happiness is what was the most important thing.”
“You sound like parents.”
I shrugged. “We are, but we’ll never see them again.”
“Do you want to?” Jackson asked.
I looked at him. “Do you?”
