Chapter 13
The next morning, I woke up with Kendra on one side of me and Jonathon on the other. We’d spent hours having sex. First it was me and Jonathon. Then Jonathon and Kendra, then me and Kendra, then all three of us.
He was staying with us, at least until we figured out what was going on with Kendra.
“Morning,” he said, putting his arms around me. “That was amazing.”
“You have no idea,” I said, smiling. “I need a shower and get breakfast ready.”
“I can take care of breakfast.”
“Great. Let’s let Kendra sleep for a bit longer. She hasn’t been sleeping well since this all started.”
We got out of bed.
“I can see that. She’s got a lot on her mind.”
“That’s really true and she’s lost everything else that mattered to her. The things she didn’t know she even wanted. Her entire life.”
“She’s getting a new one.”
“But will it be better or worse?”
“You’d know, wouldn’t you?”
I looked at him. “What do you mean?”
“It took me a minute, but I recognized you. I’ve seen you before. A few times. At the station.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve never been in trouble and I don’t remember ever meeting or seeing you until yesterday.”
“You wouldn’t have met me, I’m not a detective. I’m a beat cop. I’m the first person on scene, but I recognize you.”
“I still don’t understand.”
“You’ve been helping the police and say that you know the future.”
“Oh.”
“Is it true?”
“Yeah, Hailey, is it true?” Kendra asked. “Can you see the future? Is that how you knew about the fire?”
“No that’s not how I knew about the fire and yes, I can see the future.”
“Oh my…”
“I understand if you guys want to leave. I’m a freak.”
“I never said…”
I turned away and walked into my bathroom, closing, and locking the door behind me.
