Chapter 16
"Good morning sir."Evelyn greets her boss.
She is in his office to give him his schedules for the day.
"What do you want?"Jayden asks her.
He doesn't spare her a glance, his eyes are fixed on the computer in front of him.
"I am here to hand over your schedule. "She mutters gently.
"Drop it on my desk and leave."He commands, still not glancing at her.
Her eyelids drop. She wonders what is wrong with her boss.
"Are you okay, Mr. Jayden?"She asks him with concern.
This time around, he looks at her. He has a blank look on his face, instead of the usual mischievous grin.
"Do I look like a sick person, Evelyn Jones?" He asks back.
Evelyn opens her mouth to say something but closes it back.
Why is he acting so cold and different today? Is it because she tells him that she has a crush on Morris Anthony?
She starts."I just think that - "
"Leave. I'm busy right now."He orders.
She nods her head slowly and walks out of his office, still confused about the change in his behavior. Maybe he is in a bad mood. Being in a bad mood doesn't mean that he should snap at her, anyway. "What a wicked boss!"She scoffs.
Jayden clenches his fist, taking a deep breath. The way he just acted hurt her. It is obvious from her eyes. He doesn't know why he is upset with her and everyone since last night. He has been angry since she told him about her relationship status. He is not interested in her or something, but it hurts him that he has a boyfriend.
The door jerks open, interrupting him from his thoughts.
He looks up. It is his personal assistant, Joe. He is also his best friend.
Both of them attended the same college, Joe was on a scholarship though. When they graduated from college, the Turner's family gave Joe the position of a personal assistant.
"Why are you looking so down, bro?"Joe asks as he slumps on a couch inside the office.
Jayden scoffs."Don't you have something to do?"
"I'm free. Answer my question, Jayden."Joe snaps.
"Damn! Nothing is wrong with me. Just get lost, Joe. I don't want to talk to anyone."
"Is it a bitch, åsshole?"
Jayden glares at him."Evelyn is not bitch."He snaps at his best friend.
Joe burst into laughter, rolling on the couch."Honestly, you are an åsshole. What is up with your hot secretary?"
Jayden hisses, he hates that his friend called Evelyn "hot". He ought to be the only one with the authority to call her "hot".
He hates it more that he is acting like a jealous boyfriend. What is wrong with him?
"I know that there is something more to getting on her nerves every time. You like her, right?"Joe winks at him.
"I don't."Jayden mutters."I just hate that she has a boyfriend. Why should someone like her be in a relationship? Who the heck is her boyfriend?"
Joe watches his friend in surprise. What has Evelyn done to him? Seems like Eve cast a spell on him. This is the first time he will see his friend getting worked up because of a girl. "Are you even listening to me, dickhead?" Jayden snaps at him.
"Forget about Evelyn. Let's hit the club tonight. Trust me, It is gonna be fun."
"I am not interested in going out with you, thanks for your offer."
"There are a lot of beautiful ladies there. Slim, curvy, tall, and short."
Jayden scoffs. The thought of going to a nightclub filled with half-naked ladies irritates him.
"I am not a manwhore like you."He snaps.
Joe smirks."But, you can be a simp because of your secretary. What a finished man!"
"I'm not a simp, idiot."Jayden barks.
****
Jayden hit his palm on his forehead in frustration."What have you done, mother?"He utters slowly, picking his words one after the other.
His mother flings her arm around his shoulder."I'm doing it for your good, son."She defends herself.
It's a Sunday afternoon. Jayden just woke up from his morning nap when his mother announced to him that he had a date with a family friend.
Obviously, Mrs. Turner arranges the date by herself without informing Jayden about it.
Mrs. Turner feels like it is time for her son to have a girlfriend. She thinks that he is getting old. Since Jayden doesn't seem keen about having a girlfriend, she decides to hook him up with a family friend.
"I don't want to go on a date with anyone, mother. Can I just have a break for today?"Jayden requests, his voice pleading with his mum.
Mrs. Turner insists that he should go on the impromptu date.
"Don't worry. You will have a lot of fun with Emily."
He shrugs."Who the hell is Emily?"
"Jayden!"His mother yells at him.
"What is wrong? Stop yelling, mom. It is dangerous for your health."
"Emily is the lady you are taking on a date. I told you her name a few minutes ago. Why are you like this? I don't think I'm your mother, "she says.
"I'm sorry, mom. I forgot."
Jayden is unable to convince his mother that he doesn't want to go on a date. He eventually agrees with her wish.
He is happy they're going to a shopping mall, not a restaurant. Going to a mall for the date is better. He doesn't have to talk much, he will just guide her in the shopping activity.
The lady, Emily, is not his type. She is beautiful but she talks too much. That is a red flag. She doesn't even engage him in intelligent conversations like Evelyn, even though their names start with "E". "Do you know Morris Anthony?"Emily asks him, as they walk around the shopping mall.
"Yes."He replies, hoping that she will keep quiet for the next forty-five minutes.
The corners of her mouth tug upwards."I like him. He is my celebrity crush."
"What should I do about this information, clueless dummy?"He says in his mind.
A part of him feels like punching Morris's face till he bleeds. Evelyn is crushing on him, and now Emily. Jayden wonders about the number of ladies who have a silly crush on him.
"Mr. Jayden!" A voice snaps him out of his train of thought.
Jayden looks up. His jaw drops when he sees Marina, one of his employees walking towards him. He is not shocked because of Marina. Evelyn is also beside her and both of them are walking toward him. "Who are they?"A feminine voice questions him.
Jayden remembers that he is on a date with Emily. He glances at Evelyn, and their eyes met.
"This is the time to make the score 2 - 2." He mutters inwardly.
Jayden pulls his date closer to him. He faces her and plants a kiss on her forehead. He can see that Emily is blushing so hard already.
"Is she your girlfriend, Mr. Jayden?"Marina asks him, they're already in front of him.
Jayden smirks."Yes."He affirms, even though he knows that he is officially in trouble.
