Chapter 8. Shayla & Xaylina
I'm now in bed thinking over the day's events. Mostly about Mason and Jake.
Mason is good looking but his personality is just so filled with hatred, it made it hard for me to like him in any way more than a friend.
On the other hand, Jake. I could see myself dating him. Being able to stare into those chocolate eyes of his and see that smile often, makes me feel warm inside. Even though Cynthia told me he was a player, and I witnessed him flirting with four girls at the same time. Or maybe the four girls had been flirting with him. Either way, I'm going to find out.
I wonder if he's in any of my classes. Since he didn't come to school yesterday, I have no idea. Hopefully he will be in my English or Calculus class.
Fingers crossed.
I got up and went in the kitchen to get something to eat. Kalina's not home so I have the house all to myself.
I went back upstairs and on Skype. Shira was online so I called her.
Took a while for her to answer but soon enough I saw her face pop on the screen of my laptop.
"Xay hun, how are you? I miss you soooo much. When are you coming to visit?" She asked me pouting.
"Hi Shira. I miss you too. I don't know when as yet, probably this Christmas I'll buy you a plane ticket and make you come instead. Its safer for me that way. " I told her. I missed seeing her face.
"Oh yeah that's cool. So what's new? How's your new school? Any cute guys?" She prodded moving her eyebrows up and down, sporting a cheeky grin.
"Well..." I began but she cut me off. She tends to do that a lot.
"Your eye color seems different. They are more brighter than before " she said, her eyebrows furrowed.
I took out my contacts because its not like I had to hide my eye color from her. She knew everything about me.
"Oh yeah that...there was this guy.." I told her everything that happened with Mason from my first encounter with him.
She muttered shit, huh, what the hell, in between my short epilogue.
"Is he hot?" She asked
"Of course you would ask me that." I giggled.
"Xay, you just giggled. That only means one thing. You like him.." She said, her eyes bulging out.
"I don't like him like him....he's a jerk sooo i'm only attracted to him. Yeah I wanna be his friend but that doesn't mean I like him in that lovey way." I claimed.
"Whatever you say Xay. I can tell there's more you have to tell me. There is no way, you would Skype me just because you missed me and wanted to see my stunning features." She said, flipping hair. Shira seeming to read right through me. Sometimes I think she's the one who's psychic.
"Oh, oh why do you underestimate my love for you." I say while holding my hands to my chest faking pain.
"Spill it Xay." She said in a monotone voice.
"His name is Jake." I say blushing lightly.
"Jake....Jake. I like the sound of that. He sounds hot. Tell me more." She said practically bouncing in her bed.
"He's Mason's best friend and he was totally flirting with me today. I heard that he's a player but I'll figure that out myself and you already know how. " I said giving her the basics about him.
"What does he look like?" She asked seeming eager to know more about Jake.
"Okay, he has chocolate brown eyes...Oh My God Shira, you know how much I love chocolate so you should know the extent of my love for his eyes.
He also has dark brown hair, a killer smile with dimples, and a hot bod of course. " I said to her feeling my body heat up, thinking about him.
"Look at you. Stuck between the two best friends. It seems you like Jake more though, since Mason is obviously bi polar." She said. Sometimes I think we have the same mind because she thought that Mason was bi polar and I think the same as well.
"I'm not stuck. If I had to choose, I would choose Jake. He's much easier to get along with " I say sweetly.
"But Xay, we both know you never liked easy. I guess that's probably why you're so eager to befriend Mason. He's a challenge and you never say no to a challenge. Its the perfect challenge too. He underestimates you because you're so tiny." Shira says blatantly.
"You're right. Again." I sighed.
"Call me tomorrow with the update okay! The boyfriend is calling and I wanna get freaky." She smiled mischievously.
"Eeewww spare me. Bye Shira. Love you tons " I blew her a kiss.
"Bye Xay. Love you tons." She blew back a kiss.
I closed my laptop and went on my bed to take a nap.
The nap came pretty quickly but then I woke up 10 minutes later to hear a piercing scream of a girl.
That girl was me. As always.
I woke up sweating like crazy from the same nightmare.
"Xayla, take the medication Gran left for you to help with sleeping at nights." Kalina now standing at my doorway looking worried.
"More like potion. " I mumbled.
Gran made this green stuff for me to drink that would make the nightmares disappear but somehow I didn't want them to. I think this is the punishment I get for not helping Sabrina and I deserve it so I won't complain and drink a vile green liquid from a bottle, specially made by Gran, the witch.
Kalina, sighed and came in to sit beside me on the bed.
She put her arm around me rubbing her thumb in a circular motion on my shoulder while resting her head on mine, in the attempt to comfort me.
Its working.
"Its not your fault Sabrina died. You weren't the one who made her depressed until it became suicidal. Yes, you could've helped her when you had the chance but you can't blame yourself forever." Kalina said slowly.
I lift my knees up and rest my head on them. I then sighed and looked into my sister's eyes. I couldn't read her mind because she was also psychic and Gran had told us that we wouldn't be able to read each others mind for someone reason. I can't remember what exactly. Oh yeah, we're sisters.
"Thanks Kalina. I feel a bit better. You know I miss having our sister moments, you're always so busy." I pouted.
"I know. I'll make it up to you this Friday. I'll order pizza and we can watch three scary movies back to back. It'll be fun." She grinned like a 6 year old.
"Awesome." I hugged her and then pushed her away for her to get out my room.
"Xaylina all the way right?" She stopped at the door to ask.
I smiled. She remembered our ship name.
"Xaylina all the way." I sighed.
"Now take two sleeping pills and get some rest. You have school in the morning " her motherly tone returning.
"Yes ma'am." My voice laced with sarcasm.
