Psychic Enchantress

Chapter 14. Can I Come Over?

I've been so off the edge for the past couple of days after that phone call from Shira.

I've been watching my back, observing students at my school, reading into every one of them trying to pick out any mysteriousness about them but I got nothing.

I was so lost in thought sometimes that i didn't even hear someone calling my name at times. Chloe would ask if anything was wrong and I would just say no and play it off with a sarcastic comment. Jake would try making me smile by teasing me but that didnt work. Evan and Cynthia would try as well but I didn't budge. I was no good at pretending to be happy when I wasn't. Mason didnt really say anything. I just caught him looking at me multiple times with a curious expression.

It was thursday night, the night before the dance when he called me.

"Elena, can I come over?" He had asked.

"Its pretty late Mason." I said looking at the clock. It was 10:45 and my sister was already asleep. I was awake, as usual. It usually takes a lot longer for me to actually fall asleep

"I'm coming over." He said flatly and hung up. How does he even know where I live?

I got up out of bed and looked in the mirror on my vanity table. I didn't look all that bad. I mean, I had dark circles around my eyes, my hair was up in a messy bun and I had on my usual night clothes which was a white tank top and a black short shorts. I turned around looking for my minion bed slippers and when I found them I slipped them on and quietly went downstairs.

I looked out the window to see if anyone was out there but the street was lonely. Suppose the undercover spy was one of my neighbors. I pondered at that thought, then erased it from my memory.

I then saw a car pulling up in my drive way and that made me almost have a mini heart attack, when I remembered Mason had said he was coming over.

I sighed. You're losing it Xay.

I went and opened the door before he could press the buzzer and wake my motherly sister up.

He stood with his hands in his pocket wearing a blue sweater and grey sweatpants. I saw him looking down at what I was wearing slowly, and stopped at my at my legs. I squirmed under his gaze a bit embarrassed to be looked at like that.

He then returned his gaze back to my face and his eyes looked like they were going pop out of his skull.

"Wh-what is it?" I stuttered.

"Your eyes are purple."

Shit shit shit. I forgot to put back in my contacts.

"Ohhh I had tried on these..." Pointing to my eyes, earlier to see how they would look with my costume for tomorrow. I guess I forgot to take them back out ." I hurriedly lied.

"Oh" his face looking relaxed again.

"They suit you. I think I like your eyes better with this color more than your usual green." He added coming closer to look at them.

Okay so knowing that my eyes are really purple, it made me blush.

I then realized that his face had remained where it was. A few inches away from mine.

I looked into his eyes and I saw that he was looking keenly at my own.

"They look so real though." He whispered, his breath touching against my lips.

"Well they're not." I breathed unaware that I was looking at his lips.

He seemed to have noticed that and he took a step back.

"May I come in?" He questioned shifting his balance on his right leg.

I stepped aside so he could pass. I took a deep breath when he did and I smelt the strength of his cologne. Daammn this boy smelt good.

I locked the door and looked out the window if there was anyone peeking through their window. But I saw no one.

"Looking for someone." Mason whispered in my ear making me jump.

I turned and smacked him on his shoulder. "Don't do that. You scared me."

"Why would you be scared when you knew I was here?" He asked his tone serious.

"Uh...I don't know." I replied unsure of what to say to him.

I walked around him heading to the stairs.

"You coming?" I stopped at the bottom before turning to ask him seeing that he was still standing at the door.

He looked around the house as if unsure whether he should or not.

"My sister's asleep and I won't bite. So follow me." I instructed before walking up the stairs and to my room.

I stood at my door frame waiting on the boy to come up. I swear he walks slower than a turtle.

He entered my room seconds later and stood in the middle of my room looking around like an infant at the zoo.

I took the time to admire him. He's actually quite the catch once you get past the mystery side to him.....wait...I pondered at that thought.

He's the most mysterious guy I know and he hardly talks. Just mostly looks at me.. All the time.

Oh my God he's the spy. He's the fucking spy! How could I not see this before.

I let a spy in my room. Well at least I think he is. I grabbed the bat I had behind my door and walked slowly behind him and swung..

Sadly he turned and catch a hold of it before it connected to his skull.

"What the fuck are you doing!!!" He exclaimed looking surprised as I am.

I looked at him my eyes wide open with shock, my mouth hanging open... Unsure what to say.

"You " I snarled. I tried pulling the bat from him but I couldn't even though he was holding it with one hand. Damn his manly strength.

"What are you talking about? Talk to me Elena." He cried.

I took the chance to look deep in his eyes and look within his soul at that point.

I saw a little boy with dark hair and blue eyes running up to a lady who had the same features. The little boy looked so happy. The lady lift him up in her arms and snuggled her face between his neck.

"How's my boy?" She asked the boy looking into his eyes with pure love and adoration.

"I'm fine mommy." The little boy said smiling into his mother's eyes.

He seemed to be around 7 years old .

His mother looked up suddenly at someone and turned back to the boy, a worried expression across her face.

"Go inside and lock the door." She whispered urgently to her son.

The boy looked behind him and saw who she had seen. Fear running across his face.

"Daddy what are you doing with that?"

A man came into view, clearly drunk holding a gun in his hand.

The man laughed looking at the boy and shook his head before looking at the mother who had fear written all over her face.

"Mason go inside now " she ordered the boy.

Mason ran inside the house locking the door then looking out the window at his parents on the front porch.

"You caused this Elena." The man said to the boy's mother gesturing to his drunken state.

"No you caused this upon yourself. You need help David. Put down the gun and let's get you some. " she calmly said raising her hands, her palms outwards facing him.

The man laughed and raised the gun pointing at the woman.

"No Elena. I'm done with you. I'm tired of seeing your face and when i'm done killing you, i'm killing that boy in there because he looks just like you." He said emotionless.

The woman cried and pleaded but he didn't care.

Mason began crying because he knew what was about to happen. He looked to see if any of the neighbors were outside looking but he saw no one. He ran to where the phone was and dialed 911.

The operator answered shortly after and Mason began crying.

"My daddy has gun. He's going to kill mommy. " he cried.

The lady apparently asked him for the address because he looked at a paper taped to the wall with the address and phone number of both parents.

He told the lady the address and the minute he did, he heard the gun shot.

He screamed and ran to the window where he looked out and I saw his mother laying on the ground in red liquid.

He looked up to see his father staring right at him.

Mason quickly moved from the window, tears rushing down his face still seeing the image of his mother on the ground not moving.

He heard a pounding on the door and he jumped startled and ran behind the couch peeking at the door.

"Open the door Mason!" His father yelled.

Mason cried even more wondering where the police was.

Eventually he heard the siren and he still couldn't stop crying.

After that scene, I saw other scenes of Mason growing up, up until he was in high school flashing across my eyes speedily. Right throughout all that, his face had the same expression in it. It went from blank and empty, to angry and sad throughout his entire life.

And not once did I see Mason being hired by a secret agency to hunt me down.

I came back to see Mason still holding the bat with his right hand, rubbing his eyes with his left shaking his head from side to side.

I let go of the bat and stepped away from him grief stricken and regret coming across my face.

What happened next I did not expect.

I began to cry. Like, really cry.

For him and for myself. I felt the way he had felt when he lost his mother.

Which always happens when I look into someone's soul. What they feel, I ended up feeling.

He lost his mother because of his drunken father.

His mother was also named Elena. Just like me which explains why he hardly talks to me.

I reminded him of his own dead mother.

I also made a fool out of myself by almost hitting him with a bat because I thought that he was the spy.

I'm so scared for my life that I can't even think before I act.

I fell on my knees with my face in my hands, crying my eyes out.
