Chapter 35 - Freaking Cat!
Dedicated to oddball, PenumbraMINE, Jo Jo Sprout, and N.Y.O.B. Thanks for making me laugh my stress away. Y'all are great!
Recap
We grabbed our rucksacks and the men followed me again. We had to stop several times to dispose of some of the men. We didn’t want to get rid of all of them, just the stupid ones, the ones who were lazy and didn’t care what happened to me. I knew I couldn’t slit all of them from their privates to their sternum, but damn if I didn’t want to. I couldn’t understand how some men could be so depraved. What happened in their lives to make them the way they were? I know I heard one of the men talking about his slut of a mother and it made me sad. I wondered if his mother had a choice or not in how she acted. I was sure she didn’t.
After another thirty-five miles I stopped and listened around the area, not catching any sound. I sniffed the air and couldn’t smell anything. But, there was something keeping me from moving, a six sense or something. I knew something was watching the bunker. I just couldn’t see who or what and it was making jittery.
“There’s someone watching,” I mouthed to the men. We parted and moved to surround whoever was out there. I kept my eyes and ears on a swivel, not moving my head quickly. I stalked into position. I never made a sound as I moved slowly. Every step or belly crawl was done carefully. I knew the guys were doing the same thing I was doing. I peeped my head around a tree quickly. I pulled back just as quickly.
Cats POV
I rolled my eyes and let out a breath slowly and quietly. I checked the area again, but stayed in my position. I checked the trees, scanning over each limb carefully, not wanting to miss anything. I caught a glimpse of black fur. I knew he hadn’t seen me yet, so I crawled, a freeze-frame at a time. It took me some time to make it to the tree the jaguar was in. I climbed the tree, not making a sound. I walked lightly up next to the jaguar and squatted down behind it’s right shoulder.
“Boom, you’re dead, Dad,” I whispered. I thought my dad was going to fall out of the tree for a second.
He steadied himself and turned to me, a smile on his face. “You did good, but can you get Madrid?” He mouthed as I smirked and slowly slithered out of the tree. I moved as slow as before, never making a sound. I switched into my jaguar and let her take over for a moment. It was long before she was close to him and we changed back.
I grabbed my blade and poked him in the side. “Fancy seeing you out here.” He jumped a mile high and cursed. I felt someone move up behind me and ducked, rolling out of the way, throwing my blade at the same time.
“Ouch, Cat, I didn’t think you would throw your blade at me,” my mom said and cursed.
“You’re wearing your suit, so you will be fine,” I sang out as I sat up from the ground, noticing she didn’t have her suit on for some reason. “Or not. Why aren’t you wearing your suit, Mom? It’s dangerous to be without it. The twins were a little ways behind us.” I got up and started spraying the ground where we stood and where I climbed the tree. I knew I was covered but I wasn’t sure if my dad was. I didn’t remember smelling his scent.
“I took a shower and was waiting on you to get here. I thought I would test you a little,” she answered as she walked to the bunker.
I threw limbs and dead-fall around the ground as we walked to the bunker, making sure it looked natural. We made it in the bunker and locked everything down for the night. I walked into the kitchen and looked around for some kind of snack.
“Dinner will be ready in about ten-minutes. Why don’t you get some cokes and pass them around. I’m sure the other guys would like some energy,” my mom told me. I grabbed the carton from the fridge and handed out the drinks, getting thanks for everyone.
“So,” Dragon started, taking a drink of his coke and smirking. “You got beat by a girl.” I started laughing, the other men doing the same.
Sophias POV
I stood in the big cavern, watching as everyone joked around with Cat being able to find our dad and uncle. I turned around and stomped to another room, feeling left out. I couldn’t stand my sister. Everything came so easy to her. She thought she was so good at everything. I was always in the background. My mom loved Cat more than me. My dad took up for me on everything, well, until I lied and got caught - all because of Cat.
I took my frustration out on a candy bar as I sat and thought. I wanted to show her up so bad, but I wasn’t as strong as her. And, then to find out my boyfriend was in the cartel and I had led him to us was embarrassing. He seemed so sweet and caring. He seemed as if he really liked me. But, he was in the cartel and according to Martim he was a bad man, a rapist, and a person who enjoyed hurting the women around him. How could I have not seen how he was?
I laid my head back against the wall and sighed as I rubbed my forehead. My head heart with all the thoughts in there. My heart hurt from being shown a side of the man I thought was good. My pride was hurt by my sister. Again. I wasn’t sure what I was doing. I didn’t want to hurt people. I wanted to go back home and see my bedroom again. The colors were soothing unlike the cavern walls in the bunker.
I knew I needed to train more to get better at things, but I didn’t want to. My dad always babied me, helping me get out of training. I could let tears fall and he would come running, that is until Cat ruined everything by calling me a faker. She ruined everything for me and I wanted to get back at her. I could be as quiet as her and scare her as she did me.
“Don’t do it, Sophia. You know she will know you are there and have you on your ass in seconds.” My jaguar looked at me and shook her beautiful head. “Go ahead and try if you are sure you won’t get caught and laughed at.”
I was going to try, at least. I could do something to her but I would have to be sneaky to do it. I knew I could do it and my jaguar didn’t know what she was talking about. She was always cautioning me. She cautioned me about my boyfriend but I thought it was because she wanted to wait for our mate. But, this I could do.
Operation: Get Cat
I slinked into the room. Everyone was watching the security cameras Cat had put up on the wall. I moved carefully and quietly as I sneaked up Cat. I kept telling myself I could do it but my jaguar was snickering at me. I moved closer. I was close to her back when I pulled my blade out. I took one step and I was flat on my back in a second. I wasn’t sure how it happened, all I knew was she was faster than I gave her credit for. I didn't even see her move. How could she move so fast. And, how the hell did she hear me?
“What the hell is wrong with you? Where you going to kill me because of jealousy?” Cat yelled, standing above me, anger written all over her face.
“I was g-going to s-sneak up on you like y-you did m-me,” I told her as my mom walked over and looked at me. She helped me off the ground and patted me down as Cat snarled in my face. I had made her jaguar very angry. I ducked my head to hide my red cheeks from everyone.
“Come,” was all my mom said as she dragged me from the room. I knew I was going to be yelled at again because of Cat. I’ve never been spanked but the look in my mom’s eyes was telling me I was close to one. I rather my dad talk to me than my mom. My mom scared me just like Cat did. They were so much alike it was almost as if they were twins and had one mind.
I shuddered when my mom sat me down on my bed and started pacing. She would open her mouth and shut it again. I knew she wanted to yell at me but she was trying to talk to me calmly. I could have told her she would never be calm when it came to me but I didn’t want to rile her up more than she was already.
“What the hell is wrong with you, Sophia? I should have never let your dad see to your training. He’s been too easy on you. And, quit blaming everyone and Cat for your actions,” my mom screamed at me as she shot me a look of annoyance.
Freaking Cat!
“Well, I’m sorry I’m not as good as Cat! I will never be as good as Cat! She likes to kill people and I don’t!!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, hoping my dad would come in and save me.
“Young lady sit down,” my dad said as he walked into the room, standing next to my mom with his arms crossed over his chest. I didn’t want to sit down. I wanted to rant and rave about stupid Cat. The bitch was getting me into trouble and now my dad is mad at me, too.
“Sit down!” My dad ordered loudly. I sat down on the edge of the bed, tears falling out of my face, not affecting him in the slightest.
My dad looked at my mom, a slight frown on his face. It was as if they were silently communicating with each other. My dad sighed and nodded his head. It was then I noticed that they had their earwigs and mics on.
“Sophia, you know we don’t like to kill people but we have to kill them to protect all of us.” My dad sighed again. “But, you are going to train with your sister and the Shadow Cats for a few days.” I tried to speak. “You are doing this with no questions, crying, griping or fits. You will not blame Cat for your own actions. Cruz will be training with you. He wants to better himself in case of an emergency,” My dad told me.
I rolled my eyes and huffed. I wasn’t happy about training with Cat, not at all. She was arrogant and a pain in my ass. She made me feel stupid and I knew she loved to show me up.
“As I said, you are not going to blame Cat for your shortcomings. If you would have just trained with everyone instead of acting as if you were a princess and we were all your peasants you would at least known how to quietly sneak up on her,” my mom told me, her arms crossed.
Cat strikes again
“What does your jaguar think of your actions, Sophia?” My dad asked me as I shook my head.
