Chapter 7 - Hell No!
Recap
The captain had stopped the boat, grabbing for his handheld walkie. “Complir con ellos antes, problema.” He waited for an answer, we couldn’t hear. “Yes, hoy.” He waited again. “Bien.”
I was listening to what both parties were saying, knowing the captain knew I was listening in. When he finished his conversation, he turned and nodded his head at me.
“We are going...”
I turned and looked at our group as the captain revved the boat back up. “Okay, change of plans. The captains going to let us off in another location, our guide will meet us there.”
“You speak Spanish?” Daisy asked.
“When do we get off the boat?” Greg asked in tandem with Daisy.
“Yes, I can speak Spanish, German, French, and a lot more. We get off the boat today, while they still have another two days.”
“Whew! Well, at least you won’t need to run off by yourself,” Greg declared.
We separated, each going to sit down, talk, or play cards. I, on the other hand, went to the railing close to the captain, nodding my head at him as I sat down. I was happy he took care of the problem I had. I was worried about the group I was in. Did I put them in danger? Was I going to be the death of them? I didn’t know what the monster would do, especially with so many witnesses. I wondered if our guide was going to be a big cat too.
I looked up at the captain, who looked at me, and said, “Obrigado. Você provavelmente salvou minha vida.”
“Sim,” he replied, nodding his head.
I nodded my head, happy to find out our guide was a shifter too. I looked back towards the forest. I was fascinated with all the greenery. I felt at home here. Maybe I could move here. I wouldn’t miss the states. I didn’t have any emotional attachment to the states. No friends and no family - at least any I would claim. It was beautiful here, the rain making it even more beautiful.
I turned towards the captain. “Estava Quase la, certo?”
“Sim, cerca de dez minutos,” he replied.
I nodded my head. I was ready to be off the boat and into the Rainforest, only ten minutes, yes! I wanted to see the interior. I wanted to see the monkeys, snakes, and wildlife. I was bouncing with excitement, only I didn’t show it, I was doing a happy dance in my mind. If I had known I would feel this way I would have escaped sooner.
I thought back to my escape after I stole the paperwork. I couldn’t believe it worked. I went to the dress boutique with my guard. I was always with a guard. I had on three layers of clothes that wouldn’t be noticed. I had already stashed my backpack in the trees. I had clothes, boots, my toothbrush, some toiletries, cash, that I also stole, and the paperwork, proving what a scumbag the monster is.
I watched the guard as he sat on the window seal, smoking and playing on his phone. I knew it was my chance to run. I had walked into the dressing room at the back of the store, closed the curtain on my room, leaving my high heels. I ran as fast as I could out the back door and into the woods, where I changed into my jaguar. I found my backpack and ran through a stream to mask my scent. I already had a scent masking spray, that I had made in secret, on my clothes. I added a little more all over my body and made my way into the trees around the monsters compound. I wanted to see what he would do. It was almost too easy. I had searched all my possessions and myself for any bugs. There weren’t any.
The monster was on the warpath, looking for me, questioning his men, and killing so many of them. The first person he shot was my guard. I wasn’t upset with that shot. My guard was a perv, always trying to corner me and take advantage. It was gross.
My attention was diverted by the big cat hunters talking. I listened in to their plans, knowing they were going to set me up for embarrassing their leader or for throwing my blade at him. Who knew why? I forgot about my blade I had thrown between his knees - something I needed to get back.
The leader spoke up first. “We need to get a hold of the bitch as soon as we can. We can have fun with her, then kill her - making it look like a big cat got her. Who’s with me?”
All but one raised their hand. “I’m not killing anyone or raping her. It’s wrong.”
All four of the guys turned on him, asking him if he was a pussy. They kept questioning him, laughing at him and knocking him around - not really hurting him because of the captain.
“So, you want to go with their group and protect her? Hold on, we could ask if she has a dress and make-up you can wear. But, I don’t think she wears dresses considering she acts like a man, all tough, thinking she could take me,” the leader mocked.
“No, but I can go back home. I will not rape her or kill her. She has done nothing wrong. You are worried about your masculinity. She was correct about shooting from the boat and not making sure your weapon was safe. She was right when you put your hands on her. I won’t do it, not now, not ever,” he vowed.
“Be quiet, you idiot. We don’t want her to overhear us. How about you go back home. We don’t want you in our group,” the leader commented harshly.
I watched as the guy nodded his head, looking around to see if anyone heard. You could tell he wasn’t sure what to do. I watched as his face showed his distaste at the idea of what the other wanted to do to me. I knew this man was going to go to the village police on my behalf. I knew he was worried the big game hunters were going to kill him and he was indecisive about telling anyone on them.
I sat there stewing over what their leader said and about what the one guy said. I was mad, very mad. How dare they talk about raping me and then killing me. I would not let it happen - no way!
I wondered if they had done this to anyone else. What a scary thought, something I would ask our guide. I wanted to know if they had any missing girls and if they knew about these guys. I sighed, turning back towards the captain who was nodding his head. I knew he would have heard them too and by his face, he was just as pissed as I was.
“Sua aldeia tem garotas desaparecidas?” I asked him.
I didn’t want to know but I did. I knew they must have done this another time, probably without the guy who disagreed with them. But, how many have they raped and killed?
The captain opened his mouth...
