Chapter 67 - Tests
Matheus and I headed to our room. We were both hungry and tired. I couldn’t wait to get some sleep after I took a shower. Matheus handed me the suit to put on and waited for me to a shower before he went and got dinner. Guess he didn’t want me to be ambushed while I was taking shower. What he didn’t know was that I had more weapons around this room than the Shadow Cats had on them at one time in battle. I made sure to scatter a few under the bed, two stuck to the night stands, three in the bathroom and four of them I wore at all times. The only time I had only one was when I went to bed and that one was in a sheath on my thigh. I wasn’t going to go down, not when I survived Barbosa.
Someone knocked on the door. I waited for a whistle but didn’t hear one. I went behind the door and waited for whoever it was to stick their head inside the door. I was armed with a glock and my blade. There was a knock again. Just about the time I thought the person had left the door squeaked open. I grabbed the person and threw them onto their knees hard. I saw who it was but didn’t move from my stance.
“H-hey, it’s just m-me. I was looking for M-Matheus,” Flirt stuttered out.
I closed the door and whispered, “Next time give a little whistle so I know who it is.”
I stepped back as the door opened and Matheus walked in with his eyebrow raised. “Honey, why is Flirt on his knees?”
“Probably because his knees are still shaking,” I quipped as I helped Flirt up. I shook my head at him.
I walked over to Matheus and took both of the trays to the table. I waited for Flirt to state his business before I decided he had, once again, lost his wits, not that I thought he had much to begin with.
“What’s up, Flirt?” Matheus asked, looking at me as I shrugged my shoulders.
“Uh, are you going to train with us tomorrow?” Flirt asked, rubbing his neck in nervousness.
“I’m going to skip until the court case is over,” Matheus let Flirt and me know at the same time.
I shook my head at Matheus but I could tell he wasn’t going to change his mind. I guess it was going to be the Matheus and Selina show for awhile. We were going to get on each others nerves, I knew we were. It was bad enough I was cooped up in buildings all the time. It was making my jaguar a little bitchy.
Flirt nodded and walked out of the room as Matheus came and sat with me to eat. He was chuckling and I was looking at him strangely. I was wanting in on the joke but he was in full out laugh mode now.
“I can’t believe he thought he could scare you. He didn’t understand what would happen. He thought he was tougher than the General and wanted to prove himself,” Madrid answered the question in my eyes.
“How do you know it’s why he was here?” I asked, taking a bite of my food.
“I heard him talking to the guys. The idiot didn’t realize I had my earwig in when I took off my helmet. I always wear it,” Matheus explained as he laughed. “I had already told him I wasn’t training right now.”
“Yeah, about the training-”
“-I know what you’re about to say. I’ve already made up my mind and I’m stubborn when I do. I’m sorry this sucks for you but it won’t be too much longer,” Matheus explained to me.
I sighed and shook my head. I knew he wasn’t going to budge before I opened my mouth. I grabbed his left hand and squeezed it.“Okay.”
We ate our dinner, quietly chatting. It was nice and we learned a lot more about each other. Matheus went and took a shower while I sat quietly. I was worried I would be a terrible mom. I hoped I wasn’t. I would hope I learned to not do as Barbosa did me. I knew my child would have training from a young age. I wanted my child to know how to protect themselves.
“You ready for bed?” Matheus asked me as I nodded and yawned.
“Are the rest of the guys going to test me too?” I asked, already knowing there would be a few.
“No, well, probably. I didn’t hear them say anything but you know them. They will try.” Matheus smiled. “At least it will keep you on your toes.”
“And, them on their knees,” I added as we both laughed.
I got under the covers as Matheus went to his side and got into bed. He pulled me close to his chest. “Goodnight, Selina and baby.”
“Goodnight, Daddy,” I teased.
Matheus had been asleep for awhile as I laid in the dark and thought about my life. I was happy I met Matheus. He is a great man and he will make a terrific dad. I knew he would be teaching them gadgets while I taught them self-defense. Little go-go gadgets. I snorted at my thoughts. I was beginning to connect with my child. My jaguar was through the moon over the pup. I guess I was feeling what she was feeling or it was just me finally realizing I was happy to have this child. I fell asleep with my thoughts.
