Chapter 40. A Nervous Proposal
*Hephaestus*
I entered the room, it was dark and gothic. I had to smile a bit. She was a baby bat. I walked through being careful not to touch anything. I didn’t want to leave an imprint on her if she didn’t accept me right away. That would be rude. I was being pulled towards the side of the room, almost as if I was going into the wall. The wall gave way as I approached it. I was now in a bright room with a lot of weapons I had made in it. The weapons seemed to hum as I walked past them. I had never seen so many of my creations in one place outside of my own workshop.
Elentari was in front of me. Her back muscles are accentuated by her mediation pose and outline of her top. I had to swallow my saliva and stop in my tracks to keep myself together. I watched her for a few moments before I stepped around to the front of her, unsure how to get her attention. This was worse than standing trial of Titan judgment.
“You should stop before you lose all your energy and faint, Princess.” I groaned to myself. ‘Well, that’s one way to announce my presence, how romantic.’ She looked up at me and I seriously thought I was about to lose my shit. How could someone look so sexy and so innocent at the same time? Her entire essence radiated kindness and care. She was a better being than I could ever be.
I explained to her what we are. What is the difference between a mate and a fate bond? I don’t explain that you can’t reject a fated bond though. I wanted her to have the option of choice if she really felt I wasn’t right, without any guilt. She was only eighteen, I am older than dirt. Almost literally. She tried to come near me, and I stepped back. I didn’t know if I could handle her even holding my hand. I am not exactly known for self restraint. None of the gods are.
She’s a stubborn one though. “You’ll have to teach me all about all of this. I’ll do my best to keep up. I can’t promise I won’t annoy you from time to time with my lack of knowledge, you’ve lived more history than I could ever learn.” Her innocence tears through my heart like a tidal wave. Tears fell from her eyes. I hoped they were happy tears.
“You don’t have to, Princess. You don’t have to accept me. I don’t understand why you would want to.” I really couldn’t understand this female. I was giving her an out. She didn’t need to bind herself to me.
“No, I don’t have to.” Her eyes twinkled a bit, and once again I lost all the air in my lungs. “But, I’ve lived my life, doing what others have wanted me to do my whole life. Lyssandra tried to control and mold me. Aphrodite tried to keep my brother from me. Hades abused my brother and stole my memories of him. Now, I make my own choice. I could have been mated to anyone. But I’m destined to you. You’re fated for me. I will never find anyone to match me better. I’m not the prettiest person out there, I won’t be like this,” she gestured to all of her, “forever. Some day, Selene will go to her own body and reunite with Endymion. I’ll again be my shortstacked self, even though eyes, I’ll still be a Lunar Guardian. I’ll be a mortal girl. I’m more worried that I won’t live long enough for you and I will leave you some day to mourn the loss of me.” Her eyes turned sad.
“Fate and Destiny have a plan. I’ll trust in it. If you want me, I have no reason to reject you.” My other hand let go of the box that had been deposited back in my pocket and I touched her cheek, “I don’t understand you, but I look forward to learning all about you.” Her smile was infectious. She stepped away from me and pulled me back towards the wall, and I gulped.
“I’d rather sit and talk in a more comfy space for a while than stay in the training room.” She explained. “I’ve…” she pauses and blushes, “I’ve never had a boyfriend, or girlfriend, or… well, anything romantic in my life. You’re… well, you’re my first. First and last, huh?” It was completely adorable the way she blushed all the way up from her neck. I bit down on my lip hard.
“Okay, so ground rule one, please wear something a bit more covering unless you want me to devour you.” I let my eyes roam up and down her delicious body, thinking all sorts of naughty thoughts. I’m almost salivating thinking about kissing and touching her. Wanting to hold her and love her. “Ground rule two, after this point, unless you’re comfortable being intimate with me, better we aren’t in any place alone. I don’t know if you feel a pull to me, but uhm… I do. I am not known for my restraint. I am Greek and a god.”
Fuck, her blush was way too seductive. “Oh, uhm.. Okay. “ She went to her closet and pulled out a tee shirt. I was glad she was following the rules, but I was going to miss the sight of her voluptuous breasts. Okay Hap, calm down. Just calm down.
I took deep breaths, trying to calm myself. I sat down in a comfortable armchair, this room seemed to adjust to anything she needed. “Elentari, what do you know about this world? The supernatural and all?” I wanted to know all about her. This seemed to be a safe place to start.
“I know that all the fantasy novels I read were partially based on truth, Greek mythology is real, and probably other cultural mythologies. I question the existence of the Christian God at this point, and I’m trying to understand where I fit in with it all. I get that my bloodline has always been Lunar Guardians, and now Selene needs to be here to make sure Chaos doesn’t eat the world or something…” She gave all the information it seemed she had. “And that’s about it. Not much to go on.”
I had to smile, she was too cute. “Well, as time goes on, I’ll explain my life, and hopefully, pieces of what I’ve gone through will help you.” I put my hand back in my pocket, touching the small box again, “So uhm.. I talked to your parents, all three of them, and explained things, like about you and I and the Fate/Destiny bond.” My palms were sweating. My heart was pounding in my head. At this point, I knew what love felt like, and that I had never felt it before. I pulled the box out of my pocket, kneeling before her. “I… I know this isn’t exactly what you imagined or hoped for, but I knew from the moment we locked eyes you were destined for me. I… I made this for you. I imagined since you’ve grown up with mortal traditions,..” I was rambling and the words were getting stuck in my throat. “I know it wouldn’t be anything immediate, but, would you be my wife?” I finally spit the words out and thought I was going to faint. Fate can’t even help me now.
