Princess in the Rough

Chapter 7

Amber

When we got to the den of the Night Walker clan, we found Green Paw and Night Cry surrounded by two other wolves. One appeared to look the exact opposite of the one holding us captive, pure black with a white spot at the tip of their tale. The other was a rusty brown with white tipped ears. Besides the one that was holding me and Echo captive, those were the only wolves present.

Surrounding us were jagged rocks that would make it difficult to escape, with only two exits. One in front of us that led to a den, and the other the one we just came through.

A wolf came through the entrance of the den. This one was larger than the rest. It was pure black. No other color was present on its body. Even it’s eyes were pure black. That was the part that freaked me out the most.

“Humans.” He spat. “Why are there humans in my territory?”

“Alpha, these two humans were caught shortly after we caught two wolves.” The brown one said carefully. You can tell how an alpha treats it’s pack by how the pack members treat it. This must be a nasty alpha. I started breathing heavily. A whiff of rotting meat and bones caught my attention. I think I know what they’re going to do to us.

“Show me the wolves.” The alpha commanded and walked over to my friends. I strained my ears trying to hear what he was saying but it sounded quiet.

“Here they are alpha.” A wolf whimpered.

“A female and a male. Only one of each?”

“Yes alpha.”

“What do you say we do with the boy, my love?” The alpha asked sweetly. Apparently he was talking to his mate. Why was she the only female and where was she? I couldn’t see her.

“I had a fun thought. We give him a choice. Either he-” The alpha’s mate hushed her voice and made it so I couldn’t hear their voices anymore.

“Dang it.” I sighed. “What are they going to do with him?”

“Amber, can you hear what there saying?” Echo whispered to me.

“Silence! You are not aloud to speak!” Our wolf captor hissed at us, baring his teeth. Echo held up her hands in surrender, letting him know she heard.

We had to sit in silence as the alpha and his mate continued their hushed conversation. Next to me, Echo tapped her foot in impatience.

“Ssshhh! I can hear them again!” I said softly to Echo.

“What are we going to do with the female?” The whimpering wolf asked the alpha.

“You boys are growing up and won’t stay young forever. You keep her.”

“Echo, we need to break out now!” I said out loud in a panic and forgot that we needed to be quiet. The wolf that was guarding us lunged towards me and nearly chomped down on my neck but the alpha walked back to us.

“Mud Mane! What are you doing? Alpha always gets first bite.” The alpha snarled and looked at me and Echo hungerly.

“You cannot kill us! We are a part of the Moon Claw clan! You kill us and you will suffer greatly. The Moon Claw clan are the best hunters, trackers, and clan in all of Hunter’s Arrow Woods. Get on their bad side and you won’t have a pack to be the alpha of.” I snarled at the alpha. Where all this courage came from, I had no idea.

“You’re just a human. You don’t know what you’re talking about!” The alpha snarled, foam forming on his lips.

“Oh yeah? Take a whiff.” I challenged. They have no right to kill me or my friends unless they want a blood bath. The alpha walked up to me and smelled my chest, then slowly backed away.

“Release the humans. Keep the wolves.” He ordered angrily.

“The wolves come too!” I said sternly.

“Don’t test your luck human! My pack is hungry and your an easy meal! The only reason I don’t end your life on this spot is because you are somehow linked to the Moon Claw clan. Leave while you can. If you ever dare come back to this territory ever, Moon Claw clan member or not, you will die.” The alpha raged, his lip was curled so far up, I could count every one of his teeth if I wanted to.

“What are you going to do with Green Paw?” I demanded, face to face with the alpha. Only now did I realise he was the size of a werewolf.

“Who’s Green Paw?”

“The male.”

“He’ll fight Frost Aura. If he wins, he becomes a member of the Night Walker clan, if he dies, we eat.”

“And the female?” I needed Echo to hear this more than I did so she’d get her head in the game and quit acting like a pup.

“She’ll be staying with us. No exceptions. War or not. We only have one female in our pack as you can see and she’s mine. It wouldn’t hurt to have another.”

“We are leaving with all the wolves and humans. I won’t tell you twice.”

“WHAT IN YOUR HUMAN MIND MAKES YOU THINK YOU HAVE ANY AUTHORITY TO TELL ME, THE ALPHA, WHAT TO DO!!!” The alpha raged, foam spilling from his mouth. Werewolves generate foam when angry, human or wolf form. If I didn’t know better, I’d say this wolf alpha that was so against humans, was a werewolf.

“The female is the alpha’s daughter. What do you think the alpha will do when she finds that her daughter hasn’t come home?” I said calmly, backing away. Maybe I didn’t want to pick a fight with this guy.

“How about this. You and me have a battle. Winner, takes, all.”

“Your on.” What did I just get myself into.
