Chapter 4: Apply for a Job
“I don’t like to eat that, but my son loves it,” Joseph said. He took out a box of chocolate from the shopping bag and it was the
same brand. “I’ve bought a lot for my son. I can give you one of them.”
Stella’s eyes gleamed when she saw the boxes of chocolate, but she hesitated. “But, mommy said I shouldn’t take stranger’s
things. But...” Her black eyes rolled and she tipped her toes, coming close to Joseph. She gave him a kiss on the face and took
over the box of chocolate. “This should be fine!” Joseph was startled, but a smile broke on his lips. The assistant was breaking
out cold sweats. He glimpsed at the time and reminded him. “Sir, it’s time...”
“Okay. Then I guess we should say bye now, little fella.” Joseph stood up and left with his assistant. “Bye! Mister!” Stella waved
her hand at his back. She thought that not only the strange man was handsome, he was kind-hearted too.
“Stella Downey!” Hearing a woman’s angry voice from behind, Stella’s face contorted and she thought she was doomed. The
next thing she knew, the woman came close to her and gave her a slap on her hips with an angry look. “Didn’t I ask you to stay
there? Why did you keep running around?”
“Oh, mommy, stop, it hurts!” She did not actually feel pain and was just pretending. She then covered her hips and wailed. “My
chocolate dropped, I just want to pick it up.” Noticing she was carrying a box of chocolate in her arms, Hayden took it over and
asked, “Where did you get this?” Stella played with her fingers and replied, “A handsome mister thinks I’m cute and gives it to
me.”
“Gives you? They why don’t you go with him?” Hayden felt angrier and she wanted to give her hips another slap. Stella wailed
and quickly covered her hips. She used the usual trick by looking at Hayden with watery eyes. “Mommy, I’m sorry. I’ll face the
wall for three minutes.”
“Ten minutes!”
Stella wailed. “Ten minutes is too long, why can’t mommy care more about Stella?”
“I’ll lengthen the time if you bargain with me any longer!”
Stella no longer dared uttering a word. She curled her lips and left with Hayden obediently while holding her hand.

Having returned after five years, the change of City N was beyond her imagination. The city was all abounded with lofty
skyscrapers. Hayden woke up early the next day. After settling Stella, she stopped a cab right at the entrance of the district and
headed towards the ST Group building located downtown. Today was the seasonal interview day of the ST Group and there
were a lot of people going to and fro through the revolving door.
“Oh! Wait up!” Seeing the lift was going to close its door, Hayden rushed to it on her high-heels shoes. She gritted her teeth and
managed to squeeze herself through the gap before the closing. “I’m sorry, I’m here to...Oh!” She was too quick when she
entered. One of her shoe heels bent and she fell to the front. She seemed to touch a smooth, silk-like fabric with both of her
hands and she subconsciously grabbed it. She then completely fell towards the person and the strong hormone smell made her
giddy.
