Chapter 2.
2. And Peggy Pout Gives Sam a Push.
A man…stands on a rocky outcropping.
This rocky outcropping is on the lip of a vast and deep pit or a quarry.
One might identify this as a quarry from the bulldozers and heavy digging machinery.
The quarry is vast and almost a perfect circle…terraced down with concentric circles.
Ten feet below the man is the next ten-foot ring of this quarry terraced with concentric circles…and this sequence is repeated but the ratio changes.
The measurements of the terraces begin as ten feet out and ten feet down repeated three times…and then five feet out and twenty feet down…repeated but by that distance for this man’s perspective he cannot judge what the measurement might be…and this man cannot see a bottom to the quarry.
This man is almost five feet ten inches in height.
The man in question has short brown hair no more than five inches on the top and is close-cropped around the sides of his head.
This man who is almost five feet ten inches tall looks as though he might weigh nearly two hundred pounds.
This man is wearing a black jacket…someone might describe this as a ‘gas station jacket’ but it is an Eisenhower Jacket manufactured by the Dickies clothing brand in Bangladesh.
Underneath the Eisenhower jacket, whose style was inspired by pilots’ uniforms in World War Two, this almost non-descript man wore a white button-down collar with a narrow black tie.
This man is almost non-descript only for the fact that the author is attempting to describe this man who is wearing black Dickie shorts hanging in a baggy style below this man’s knee. The legs of his short pants flap delicately in the wind so do some of the loose strands of hair not held down by his pomade.
He is wearing black socks and black shoes…one might identify these black shoes with a number like eight-zero-five-three leather shoes with the bouncing souls.
A woman with a white flowing dress runs up behind the man and places a red blindfold over the man’s eyes and gives this man a push…
And this woman in a dress with a white lace pattern whose skirt portion is pushed back onto the legs by a breeze as she takes the man’s place.
Her long hair with small braids accentuates her long loose hair.
Hair that resembles a golden wheat field at sunset where the red glow of the sunset mixes with the golden hue of the wheat.
This woman who gave the man a shove is watching as he falls but never lands.
Her hair and dress blow in the wind in the opposite direction she is facing as she is intent on watching the fruits of her actions, blindfolding and giving a man shove…
This woman assumed the same position as that man she shoved and who is falling still without landing…
As Diana Flores opens her eyes Hector’s face is not only in her field of vision but…
“You are too close…” Diana mumbles as she awakens trying to push Hector away. She isn’t just startled but annoyed.
Noah and Morgan Lafayette let go of Diana’s hands and the dream’s lingering sentiments quickly fade.
“That is one of these dream scenarios we have been working on, to try to circumvent some would-be villain’s thought patterns before they could develop into a menace or to imprison someone whose thoughts and actions have become a threat to most life…” Morgan said as she and Noah got up from the chair.
“We Ghosts share a cosmic consciousness…not like a hive mind but like a thought library for the Aztec Ghosts,” Noah began to say. “Zeds have their own…and there are many more Zeds than Ghosts. With our touch, we can get into the mind of ordinary humans. We think we can use this Ghost consciousness to transfer this power to other Ghosts who can touch other humans to create this dream sequence. But we might be more effective if we were able to touch a Zed and transfer our power through this Zed consciousness…” Noah looked at Morgan, Hector, Diana, Laurents, and Francisco Segovia…one of the hero twins, and Chemical Test pilots…the almost inseparable Segovia brothers.
