Piercing Chill

Chapter Epilogue

I woke up to beeping sounds. My eyelids felt heavy to lift, my mouth was dry and someone was holding my hand. Some part of me hoped that it was Jason. However, I was disappointed to see that my theory was wrong. I met my mother’s smiling face. Still, I was happy to see my mother. However, she looked paler than usual and she looked like she had not slept for days.

“Good morning honey,” She whispered with a shaky smile and a tear falling on her cheek. “I’m so glad you’re awake.”

“Where is Jason?” was the first thing that came out of my mouth. My voice was dry and raspy.

“He went home.” Mum said helping me to sit up on the bed.

“What do you mean he went home?” I questioned taking a sip of water from the cup mum handed me.

Mum sighed before continuing, “After everything, your father came to look for you. He thought you were dead.” Mum sobbed. “You lay motionless next to Jason. He got the other angels to bring you back home. Jason was taken by his people. Your father thought it is best if Jason to stay away from your life for a little while.”

“What? Why?” I questioned on the verge of tears.

“Calm down honey. It’s for the best.”

“What do you mean? I have to talk to him.” I proclaimed lifting the sheet off my body.

I was shocked at the sight. I had no wounds or scars left on me. I scanned every inch of my body for the second time and still there were no wounds. This made me scan my surroundings. I was at home, in my room. The beeping noises were coming from outside. I turned my head towards my mum. I then remembered that Jason gave me his blood to heal. But that was before tiredness claimed me.

“You’ve to be protected my love.” Mum whispered next to me. “You aren’t properly trained and your body is not used to the power you have.” I turned to face her fuming.

“What do you have to protect me from? Craig will not be coming back for me ever again.”

“I know. However, there will always be someone trying to get rid of you.” Mum spoke as a matter-of-fact. She continued “Your father and Jason were not the only ones lying to you.” She paused before continuing, “I am what you call a Nephilim – half-angel. I was lucky to possess both human and angelic gifts. Hence why I can be manipulated easily.”

“No way.” I replied not wanting to believe the revelation that was made before me.

“That’s not important right now. As I said before, you must be protected. A child conceived from a Nephilim and an angel is more powerful than anyone especially when they become aware of their own powers.” Mum continued, “People are going to be hunting for you. It is important that we get you to properly train and master your powers before you become harmed.”

I struggled with the news. I slowly made my way towards the window. In the drive way was a truck with ‘Amoris movers’ written on it. Horror filled me. “We are moving right now?”

Mum looked at me and simply nodded before walking out of the room.

I guess a new life in a new place would do me some good. I thought before making my way downstairs.
