PEGASUS (FARSIDE SAGA: BOOK TWO)

Chapter Chapter Twenty-Three: Enlightenment

The ceiling began to open up, exposing them to the night sky, as the chamber rose to the surface. The transport ship Orion sat almost invisible against the crystalline background. Jason engaged his evosuit as Crystallina walked towards him.

"How will this help, and what exactly is it?" Jason asked, indicating his wrist.

"My dear boy, you have a lot to learn, and I'm afraid not much time but, Between your mind, your ship, Pegasus's energy, Nano's network, and now you have been gifted with Herion energy, you are almost the most strongest being in this universe...but you are not quite ready yet. Here, I will help you...." Crystallina said as she grabbed Jason by the shoulders and closed her eyes.

Crystals grew from her hand and quickly covered Jason encasing him in a cocoon. A few seconds later, the ground began to gently shake as a golden light seemed to slice it's way through the cocoon as it began to crack open.

----------------------------🌌-----------------------------

Jason was encased so quickly that he didn't have time to react even if he could move. 'What is it with her and paralyzing people?' he thought to himself. The lights from his evosuit went dark as his HUD disappeared, leaving him in total darkness. The golden strip on his wrist began to glow. The light spread across his whole body as he began to feel weightless. The scene changed to an open starless void as he seemed like he was being pulled towards a golden galaxy.

"He's not the one!" A whispered voice said.

"He has been gifted!" Another said.

"He will have to take the test!" A third one chimed in.

"He will not survive!" A fourth said.

Jason was pulled faster and faster towards the center of the galaxy. The Golden light became so intense that he was forced to cover his eyes.

------------------------------🌌-------------------------

Jason opened his eyes to a battle taking place all around him. Different types and various size Mechs were fighting each other everywhere. Something exploded right behind him. He felt the force of the explosion as the debris rained past him, but it had no effect on him. He turned around to see a human sized Mech running towards him. It came with intentions of carrying him off but only to be stopped in its tracks on contact, damaging its armor. Jason barely felt the impact as he reached down to help the Mech stand up. As soon as he touched it, his head was flooded with scenes of this planet's past and what lead up to this war. Suddenly, he knew what to do and how to do it.

He grabbed the Mech's hand fully and teleported out of the war zone to a small peaceful quite island covered in plant life. Off in the distance, they could see the orangish red glow from the battlefield. The Mech stood back as the back of the suit opened up. The pilot stepped out and looked at Jason up and down.

"Who are you? Why have you brought me here?" The pilot responded angrily in an alien language.

Somehow Jason knew the translator was not transmitting, yet he still understood him.

"Have no fear little one. I am only here to help. I can teach you to restore this planet before you destroy it." Jason responded in the alien's language.

He walked over to a flower that was just beginning to bud. It's pink and yellow petals, curled into a spade like peak, resembling an exotic dancing flame, had slowly begun to open. He reached down and scooped the plant and a good portion of soil out of the ground. He walked back over to the pilot and showed him the plant. Wide eyed, the pilot drew his side arm and aimed it at Jason. Jason teleported them back to the war zone.

"You say you here to help yet you destroy what we protect..." The pilot started, but stopped when he noticed he was no longer holding his side arm.

He looked around and saw he was back in the battle zone. He saw his Mech standing to the side of him and quickly climbed back in, then returned to Jason.

"Not destroy...transport. Your people have been fighting for so long that the very thing you're protecting...YOU'RE destroying." Jason responded as he knelt down and replanted the flower.

He cupped his glowing hands and formed a small dome of light over the flower then stood back. The flower began to take root and stand up straighter as the ground became rich in minerals. The dome quickly spread out across the whole planet, acting as an EMP wave and shorted out all the Mechs. The pilot climbed back out of his, but before he could say his thought on the matter, the flower began growing and multiplying until it became a field, surrounding the taller inert Mechs in the distance and beyond. A large crowd of angry pilots had formed behind Jason and was heading toward them until the field of flowers came. Now, surprised and excited, they began cheering and running towards Jason. Jason saw the crowd coming and was preparing to show them how to replant the flowers, but was suddenly blinded by a bright light.

-----------------------------🌌---------------------------

When he regained his sight, he was standing in a small clearing surrounded by a thick forest. A large familiar looking creature lay curled up just inside the treeline. Jason started walking towards it but stopped at the sound of a twig snapping under his foot. The creature began uncurling as it turned around and stood up on it's four legs. It's size seemed to grow as it's spiky head looked down over the treetops at Jason. It started walking towards him through the treeline, but stumbled sideways, coughing up pools of liquid plasma. Catching it's balance, it rose on it's hind legs and roared. The roar became a soft whimper as the creature looked down at a large gash across it's abdomen. The next roar seemed exhausted as the creature slumped back down into a curl, it's size dwindling back down to that of a large horse. It was then Jason recognized the creature. It was the dragon ship they fought when they met the Peacekeepers. Feeling bad for hurting the poor thing, he gently walked over towards the creature's head and rubbed it between the double row of spikes along the top. He began picking up images of the creature's past up to this point. He didn't understand everything he saw, but he knew the creature to be just as old as the universe itself...and surprisingly, she recognized him. She had already forgiven him and thanked him we he freed her from an unknown force and didn't kill her then, but the wound had weakened her almost to the point of death. She still has a lot of fight in her but has already accepted her fate. A creature of Nobility, Jason thought. He couldn't just let her die. He walked around to the abdomen and examined the wound. Mustering all his strength and new found power, he tried his best to heal the wound, but to no avail. He tried again and again, each time more and more determined to help this poor creature. He did not want her death to be on his conscience. He fell on his knees in tears and leaned back, looking at the greenish sky. He said a short prayer then closed his eyes. In the darkness, a blue mist began to swirl past his vision. It began to twirl around and around until it took on the shape of the dragon's eyes, full of life.

"I am so sorry. I tried." Was all Jason could say.

"It is alright my child. My time has come. I have lived my life long before any others had started. Thank you, for all you have done." She said in a soft feminine voice.

With that, the mist dissipated and was gone. Jason opened his tear soaked eyes to see the last of the dragon evaporating into the air. A series of loud roars could be heard in the distance. Jason stood up and was once again blinded by light.

----------------------------🌌---------------------------

"His mind is humble." the first whispered voice returned.

"His heart is pure." came the second.

"He is still not ready." the third voice said.

"This will be the final test." the fourth finished.

Jason opened his eyes to see the light slicing it's way through the crystalline cocoon on the other side of his HUD.

------------------------------🌌--------------------------

"Well?" Crystallina asked, standing with her hands on her hips.

Jason watched the last of the cocoon crumbling down before responding.

"I think I understand now." He said as he looked her in her eyes.

"Good, now go kick that son of a bitches ass." She said with a serious look on her face as she hurried the group towards the ship.
