Chapter 9 The Expensive Gift Was a Compensation for Her
Benjamin extended some grace finally and reached to zip her dress up. Then he was going to button it up.
"I'll do it myself." Madelyn's voice trembled.
She grasped the button but couldn't button it up because it was too slippery. Finally, Benjamin did the button for her.
He apologized again.
To make it up to her, he personally called Owen and explained to him the situation of Madelyn's father.
Owen admired Benjamin, who was younger than him. When Benjamin asked for his help, he immediately agreed and set up the appointment for Madelyn. Benjamin exchanged a few more pleasantries before he hung up.
He sat behind his desk and lit a cigarette, saying to Madelyn, "Tell me if you have other demands besides asking me to represent you."
Madelyn knew that this would be the last time they would see each other.
Once, Benjamin would have gotten attached to her body occasionally. However, things were different now. He was determined to make a clean break with her. Madelyn was a sensible woman.
She pretended to be cool. "It's just the sex. I have got nothing to lose! Mr. Clark, thanks for your help..."
Madelyn got choked up at the last word, but she didn't want to cry in front of him. She and Benjamin were not even friends, and there was no point in being bitter in front of him.
She said goodbye to him and told him that she would take a taxi back.
Benjamin still sat there smoking without saying anything, and his eyes were gloomy.
Madelyn left.
She didn't go home immediately, because she didn't want to see Camila's disappointed eyes so soon.
As night fell, Madelyn walked alone on the street. The Ferris wheel in the downtown square lit up with colorful lights, which blink on and off. Young couples were hugging and kissing under the Ferris wheel. Madelyn stopped.
She was watching quietly, her eyes moist while the night wind was blowing.
A gold Continental drove past Madelyn, and Benjamin saw Madelyn.
She stood under the Ferris wheel looking up at the stars, and there was attachment and affection in her eyes... Benjamin would not be so narcissistic as to think she was missing him!
He knew exactly who she was thinking about.
Benjamin stepped on the gas pedal and the Bentley Continental sped off.
The next day, Madelyn headed for the music studio to work. It was the highest-end studio of music training in Gredax. Her colleagues all knew what happened to her family and could not help consoling her. Madelyn didn't want to influence the others, so she said with a faint smile that she was fine.
At ten o'clock, Facttown Express delivered something to her and said that it was from Mr. Clark.
Madelyn unpacked it.
It was an exquisite velvet box, and a diamond necklace was in there.
It was dazzling and extremely expensive.
One of her colleagues whispered to Madelyn. "The necklace of this brand with such a big rock should be worth no less than 200 thousand dollars." Madelyn did not want it.
But there was no Benjamin's contact information on the package. She knew that he did not want to see her again.
After work, Madelyn went to Bravo Legal Firm. Madelyn put the velvet box on the reception desk and asked the receptionist to give it to Mr. Clark. Although the receptionist was confused, she agreed.
Madelyn was about to leave when Benjamin walked out side by side with a young girl, whom Madelyn had seen in a magazine.
Eloise, the crown jewel of the Clark family, was the only biological young sister of Benjamin.
Six months ago, Eloise returned after studying abroad and fell passionately in love with Daniel right away.
Just then, Eloise took Benjamin's arm and acted like a spoiled child. "Brother, I have asked you out several times. Why don't you go to meet Daniel?" Benjamin was very offhand with her.
Eloise pretended to be angry and bickered with him. However, anyone with a discerning eye could see that they were very close to each other. Madelyn watched quietly.
She didn't hate Eloise but just laughed at herself...
Eloise and Benjamin were so close to each other. What made her think Benjamin would help with her lawsuit?
Madelyn left quietly.
Benjamin saw her. Then he got Eloise away with just a few words and walked to the reception desk.
The receptionist immediately handed him the jewelry box. "Mr. Clark, that lady left it behind."
Benjamin took it and nodded his head nobly.
Back in his office, he casually threw the box into the drawer. He almost forgot about Madelyn for a long time. He thought drily of her only when he wanted to satisfy his sexual appetite. Her waist was very tiny, and her legs were straight and long...
